Where do I start. Room smelt moody, carpets stained and dirty. Cushions stained. Staff were not friendly at all. We were abused as we left by front desk staff. Bathroom terrible. Breakfast a disgrace apple juice off, dirty glasses floaties in the hot water. Entrance to rooms filthy. Not worth $180, will not be returning and do not reccomend. Have stayed in better places for less.

We had my son's 21st birthday party at the Balcony Bar on Saturday night and I was so happy with how it all turned out. Abby was wonderful and worked so hard to make it a special night. She organised everything perfectly and I could really relax knowing everything was under control and enjoy myself. The venue looked stunning, and the food was plentiful. Jess (behind the bar) was great to deal with, and we couldn't have been more happy with how it all turned out. Thanks to all the staff who made it such a special night.

We booked this hotel for one night through booking.com on our arrival in Adelaide. Firstly we were surprised to find it had a noisy gaming bar attached and all looked rather seedy. Secondly, the bar area was closed for renovation. Thirdly the photos on booking.com were nothing like what we were presented with.||We were directed to our room down a maze of run down and scruffy corridors, having got to the floor via a decrepit and knocked about lift. The room was at the end of the hotel, painted dark navy blue but with white scuff marks all along the walls. With a double bed and one single (which we didn't ask for) it was cramped, dark and run down with a small, rather unsavoury bathroom, and a tiny rectangular high window with wired glass providing the only natural light. More like a prison cell than the hotel room we had paid a considerable amount for in advance.||My husband returned to reception to request something better but the manager on duty was EXTREMELY rude and unhelpful saying that we had been given what we paid for in this 'heritage budget' hotel, accused my husband of threatening him when he suggested we might stay elsewhere, and shouted that we wouldn't get any money refunded if we did so. He then offered to move us a 'renovated' room for an extra $70. After viewing the room we reluctantly paid this; it was admittedly better with a good bathroom and in better shape with a double bed shoved up against the wall and two single beds. However, although the decor was certainly an improvement, there was no wardrobe, a noisy air conditioning unit was immediately at the foot of one the beds and the windows (overlooking the back with no view) were completely filthy.||The following morning we went to the 'breakfast room', we were the only people there with no staff present. The breakfast consisted of unappetising jars of cereal and stale packets of bread to toast yourself. Three pats of butter between two of us.||Altogether a dire experience, the worst accommodation we have stayed in throughout our several times in Australia.||Avoid at all costs.

We attended a function here and decided to stay the night on fairly short notice. The function room was lovely and the staff very attentive, however the accommodation was rather below standard. The room was cramped and there was no view, just a filthy concrete courtyard and a wall. The bathroom needs urgent attention to get it to an acceptable level. Despite having paid in full at check-in we were also required to pay a security deposit ( although there was no minibar) which wasn't refunded until almost three weeks later. Disappointing.

This place is in need of a make over and a visit from Gordon Ramsay. The staff were friendly and helpful and the beds were comfortable and great location but..... That's where it ended. I get its a cheap hotel but come on... The hall ways smelt of cigarettes, the shower had tiles missing and mold. The air conditioner was old dusty and noisy and the lift was very outdated and didn't go to the 3rd floor. Definitely needs a makeover.

Room smelled of bleach yet still didn't seem clean. Hairs on the beds and sink. Shower barely worked and was 1/24 of a centimetre between melting your skin or freezing your toes off. Beds are reminiscent of lying on the floor, namely because they collapse so far that you are on the floor. Heard every sound from every other room making it impossible to sleep. The night manager was friendly and helpful but sadly couldn't make up for the hotel itself. Okay in a pinch, but not recommended.

Our walk on the way to the room was filthy, we spent 5 minutes in the room. We were so disgusted by the stench where we had to leave as the smell made breathing difficult, smelt like pure crap. There was mould and salt damp everywhere. My daughter, who has breathing problems anyway, became very ill. Management were rude and kept saying ‘it is a heritage hotel’.|| No concerns from them at all for the fact it was unhealthy to breath that sort of air and with no windows.||This place should not be called a hotel but instead a backpackers hostel or should be closed down.||Asked for a refund and was denied. ||Wish I took photos but had no time to stay and take them in our rushed moment to get out

Management "stand over merchants",had an issue with paying at the time but fronted up & tried to explain the situation until it was sorted out. What happened was unbelievable despite some people may have"cut & run" in the past or ? The manager called the police & thankfully they were reasonable & didn't do an arrest although the way they were carrying on they were trying to request for how the police should do their job!! Anyhow, couldn't get out of there fast enough when paid the money & the lift was terrible with how old & unsafe. Room so small & bed uncomfortable. Shower pressure not good either. Never ate or drank in the restaurant as it was too expensive & felt so bad as the management wasn't welcoming too.

Loved this place, for starters the staff are awesome friendly and very informative. There are many different areas to the hotel, bars a restaurant, balcony, function facilities, gaming room and outdoor area. The rooms were comfortable and clean without useless bells and whistles and the showers have great water pressure. Located in the heart of the CBD, close to everything. Definitely recommend staying here if you aren't pretentious. They also have the best elevator in town.

I get that the Ambassador is supposed to be old, but there's old & then there is just run down & unhygienic. My family have just spent the weekend here & our room was totally unacceptable. THE PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE ARE INCORRECT!!! THE ROOM DID NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THIS!!! Black mould all over the shower curtain & all through the shower (grout & tiles) Leaking shower head. We could only use it on a very low flow so it didn't squirt water out all over the floor (slip hazard right there!). The room smelt musty & so did the bedding. Broken toilet (button was missing, making it hard to flush) The beds were definitely in need of replacement, they were wobbly & every single spring could be felt. These are just a few issues we had. The staff were friendly but the Ambassador could definitely use an update. Not just for looks but for hygiene reasons. I would not recommend to family or friends to stay here in a hurry. Also not worth the $$ we spent to stay here.

I don't know where to start. To be honest, i'm ambivalent. I'm a fan of old fashioned things but this place is a different story. Now, I'm not fussy and I'm really easy to please. I also have a love of quirky things but there were few things I loved about the Ambassadors. Lets get the negatives out of the way first. The lift doors must be opened and closed manually, not to mention they are horribly claustrophobic. The room was small and depressing. In the old days they would call this "quaint" and "luxurious". The carpets looked dirty. Their tea and coffee making facilities were woeful and the cups were dirty. There wasn't really a place for me to put my luggage: I sure as hell wasn't going to open up my bag on the floor. Could not locate the remote control or the controls for the air-conditioner/heater. The bathroom windows did not have curtains. There was no toilet roll holder. The toilet was dirty and stained. The window sill can be used for storing toothbrushes but it's not ideal. The sink is tiny. No iron and ironing board in rooms, which was a big no no for business travellers. The decor and paint job was onerous and unprofessionally finished so it just looked off. Now for the upside The bed, was at least clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. There is wifi: in theory, but I was not successful at accessing it. I trust that it works though. The shower was at least strong and powerful. It was somewhat quiet. The ceiling was nice and high which made the room feel a bit more pleasant. The old wardrobe was a nice touch. I would have one at home if I could. I also had a lot of sangria that night so sleep came very easy. Oh yes, the building is structurally sound. That's always a plus. For a building that's over 100 years old that's very important. Overall, it's slightly in the positive. Comfortable bed. Strong water pressure in the shower. That's all that matters for a short term stay. For an outstanding night's rest at the Ambassadors, I recommend alcohol. Lots of it.

I am extremely disappointed in this accommodation and would never stay here again and I would certainly never recommend it to friends. As soon as I got there I was standing around for 15 minutes to check in while the girl at check in wandered off and left me standing at the desk. After finally getting the keys to the room I got in the lift which does not feel safe at all. As soon as we got to the room I wanted a shower after a long day of travel but the shower was broken shooting water up to the ceiling and everywhere other than where it should go. As a result the bathroom was flooded then started to leak out onto the floor. After waiting a week for my $100 bond to come back I ring them up asking why it hasn’t been put back into my account and they proceed to tell me that the bed had water on in which I can definitely tell you it did not. The staff are incompetent, the room is not satisfactory and I am not impressed about a blatant lie about the water on the bed hence not getting my money back.

Hosted a 21st upstairs in the balcony atrium. The function space felt so wide and clean! On the day we were able to have enough time to set-up decorations with ease, and still had time to take family photos beforehand. Jaz the function manager was super helpful and communicated so easily with us. Abby was super friendly and helped us a lot towards the end of the night. I can't stress enough how much our guests enjoyed the great food and service!

Having travelled a lot in past 3 years, this is the worst hotel i have found anywhere. It was a brothel, I believe, , still looks like one. Had no choice and much regretted it. Just imagine it, cant be bothered with photos. Will not improve. Rating 0.5.

Has my sons 21st here recently in the upstairs function rooms. The glasshouse / Atrium. Recently renovated. Organisation went very smoothly with Michele. The staff were wonderful. I was very impressed by the food platters. We all had a wonderful evening. Great location and good value. Will definitely consider having further functions here.

Had Lunch there today with my work colleagues. It was great. Lunch prices are fantastic and meals came out quickly which is fantastic when you only have a hour break.||Upstairs in the Glass room is very nice and relaxing. I'll be going back for sure :-)

Had a function here a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic! Staff were all very friendly and efficient, making it a really fun and hassle-free night for us. I was a bit worried as I had a few guests with specific dietary requirements but the kitchen was all too happy to work with me and made sure everyone was catered for and left with a full belly :)

Following a change of management .... the hotel is now 'work in progress' .... I have given a 4/5 star because of the cleanliness of the rooms, lovely starched white linen friendliness of the staff, and the quality of the continental breakfast. The Ambassadors hotel is described as a Heritage hotel .... original 1920s lift, fixtures and fittings and a very comfortable bar lounge serving a good range draught beers, quality wines and spirits. We stayed 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our visit x

First and foremost, the service here is amazing. We made a booking about 5 days before check in, the staff are friendly when we arrived. Room service come around usually around lunch time to either change beds or change the bins. The location is excellent, it is a walking distance away from the city and you can check out Rundle Mall, central markets and more. There is breakfast but sadly is not complimentary and you have to pay $10. The rooms are fine, nice and clean. The lift is a bit ambiguous to use as it is an old building that makes it unique but you have to shut the 2 doors before going up or down a level. The lift smelled like vomit which makes it unbearable to go in. There is WiFi available in the hotel and upon arrival staff will provide a login and password but you can only use 1 login per device and can only be used for 48 hours once activated, and yet again the WiFi is really slow. You can get a different wifi login for free by staff when asked. Overall, it is a decent hotel, the rooms are clean, staff are friendly, but if they can perhaps provide a cleaner lift and an easier way to use the wifi without the difficult process to log in and make it faster, it would be an ever greater hotel.

Fantastic location when staying in Adelaide. Although we were in a refurbished room, the overall ambiance of this hotel is about average and perhaps a little below par, but we did quite like its character. A point of particular interest is the old style passenger lift. Some may describe it as old and outdated, but we were impressed and pleasantly amused by its old style character and personality. If it could talk, I'm sure it would have a story to tell. If you're looking for a 5 star establishment I'd steer clear, but if location, value for money and unique character is on your agenda, its worth a go. We enjoyed it and kudos to the friendly staff. Its our new hotel of choice when visiting the city of churches.

Enjoyed the night there, Amy was very nice and lovely and very helpful. I really liked how unique it is. We’ve already booked in again for a future event we have in the city. Really great and stress free stay with breakfast, hell yeah!! Great price too.

Disgusting and filthy first room. Moved to a second room and whilst slightly better, it was still a well and truly below average room. When we made a reasonable complaint about the conditions of the room and wanted a refund for the second night that we did not use, they would not give it to us. Do not go here you will be greatly disappointed. The 1 star I am giving is extremely generous.

Check in was smooth and the staff was friendly but the room was quite awful. There was stains all over the floor carpet and what I think was mold in the shower.. I think it’ll be better after renovations. The beds where nice and comfortable. The garbage truck woke me up at 6am, I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing?

Awful. Just awful. Smelled bad, the entire place is falling apart. The lift is terrifying. Bathroom is in serious need of renovating to get rid of the mould. The lift motor shook the building and we could hear every step in the hallway outside our room. Peeling paint, exposed wiring makes this place overdue for serious renovation or demolition. At least the bedding was clean and reasonably comfortable.

Amazing old hotel. Absolutely STELLER. Ignore all the uptight reviewers on this page. Those people need to be staying at grey places done up by the cast on the Block. This is an OLD hotel with OLD fixtures and features. One must LIKE those things to appreciate the majesty of this place. If you DON'T like this sort of thing, go elsewhere. There is a perfectly good Adina down the street that would love your business. Everybody else, PLEASE STAY HERE! It's beautiful!

Although the location is good, the service and room is not ideal. There is no internet access throughout my stay and the air in the room was bad. I lost my voice because of the bad air in the room. Probably the air-con has not been serviced at all. The carpet was also not vacuum. To top it, I was charged one price on-line but had to pay more on my credit card. It says a lot about values. Will not be back for sure.
