What a cool pub, hidden away up near the Escapement! I never knew Balgownie had such a great mountain village vibe to it and this pub has the same feeling too.
We were there on Anzac Day, with its 2up games, so the place was packed and buzzing... but will have to return on another sunny afternoon for steak and beer or two! 😋👌

We recently held our friend's baby shower in the Private Room, and it was a wonderful experience. Aimee, Jessica, and the entire team were incredibly helpful and guided us through everything. Their organization and attentiveness made our day truly enjoyable. Thanks again, and we highly recommend this venue

Went to restaurant on Thurs night for dinner. They didn't have some of the meals that were on the menu, and then they forgot one of our mains. Then forgot the dessert. And it seemed like they were annoyed with us that they forgot it... Just not fab service. However the lamb shanks were amazing. Friends we were with who attend regularly did comment on how small the meals have gotten. Apparently it was much better value previously.

We held my partner’s 30th birthday upstairs in the function room and had a fabulous time! |Jo who I communicated via email was extremely helpful and made booking a large event so seamless.|Her staff on the night were also great.|Function room is a great space for any large event you’re needing to book!|Highly recommended

We celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary there last Sunday with a lunch for 58 guests, including children. We hired the Function Room upstairs and could also use the balcony as the weather was perfect. Our guests were very impressed with the venue. The staff was very good, helpful, professional and nothing too much effort. They carried every cup of coffee upstairs with smiles. The grazing platters were beautiful and delicious. (I wished we had ordered more vegetarian ones as they were great!) We hope to celebrate our 60th there as well!

The place is just great overall. Good food, entertainment and vibe.
But bring your wallet when buying drinks, VERY PRICEY.

Super loud, great atmosphere for an older generation.
Doesn't cater too much to kids.
Being a rainy day kids stuck inside.

Nice spot to take the family and meet up with friends on a Sunday. The beer garden is cosy and the food is great!

It was wonderful to find a place that offers more than one vegan option. There was a couple on the menu and one on the specials. Not a bad atmosphere either. Has a garden nice place to go as a family

I recently dined at Balgownie Hotel and had an overall enjoyable experience. The restaurant boasts a sophisticated and welcoming ambiance with tasteful decor, creating a pleasant atmosphere for a meal. The staff were incredibly attentive, providing excellent service.
I had the chicken schnitzel which tempered my enjoyment of the meal due to the steep prices. While the quality of the food and service is commendable, the overall cost seems to exceed the value offered. The menu prices may leave diners questioning whether the experience justifies the expense.

I hate leaving negative reviews particularly for local places but unfortunately, it was a really disappointing lunch today at Bally Hotel. The cocktail that was nearly $20 was like trying to knock back cough syrup. Ordering the prawn pasta and chicken parmi - The sauce in the pasta was lukewarm and clearly from a bottle/can, pasta was overcooked as well sprinkled with a few chewy frozen prawns. The parmi was also not their best. With the public holiday surcharge wracking up $90 for a disappointing lunch.
However atmosphere and the pub itself is still great. Good for kids and for a chill time. Hopefully they can sort the food situation out asap!

I had my 60th birthday party at Bally Pub in the Beer Garden for close to 70 guests and the night was a success. Food, services, staff and venue were awesome, and a great night was had by all. Would highly recommend.

Having an elderly blind dog that comes everywhere with us, we rang to check we could be outside with her. It was raining but a few tables had an awning over them.
We found the food really enjoyable. There was 6 in our group, the kids found food they liked, the gluten intolerant vegan found something yummy and our carnivors were happy too (and our dog supper happy cause she was with her family who may have given her some yummies too).

Hands down the best pub food in the entire South coast. This place has ruined us to have pub food anywhere else. I love their chicken schnitzel with mash and vegetables. My husband likes their nachos and their sirloin steak. Everything is always cooked beautifully, so tasty and service is fast. I’ve never had a bad meal there yet. Excellent food and the pub is very clean and the staff are friendly. I rarely leave reviews and if I do, a place needs to be consistently very good. Highly recommend

Great pub. But charging $5 extra for opting for mash and vege with your meal is ridiculous. I’m changing out chips and salad for mash and vege and being stung an extra $5 is unnecessary.

Great outdoor spaces on a hot sunny day with shady umbrellas, cold drinks, and great food. We visited on a Wednesday and were met by friendly accommodating staff, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
Reasonably priced, we had hamburgers and chips $16.99 and icy cold wine.

Great menu selections, easy to order through QR code/App, value for money. Food cooked perfectly and arrived in reasonable time considering it was a peak Saturday night . Massive shout out to the kitchen and bar staff. Friendly service and will return in the future.
P.s. it would be nice to win a meat tray in the raffle. Just once ! Haha the fishing club run raffle is great and they donate to charities.

Great atmosphere, we sat in the garden, very clean and inviting. We all had different mains from fish and chips to steaks to snitzels and all lovely well presented and great value for money. We had my mother in a wheelchair and the staff were friendly and accomodating. Great service. Well done! We will be back soon

A very welcoming hotel. The staff here are excellent! They have fantastic customer service. Drag Queen Trivia is great fun and would highly recommend. The food was great. We were a group of 8 and everyone loved the meal that they ordered. Would definitely recommend this venue!

A few friends and I attended the 5 course degustation dinner with Audrey Wilkinson wine pairing last night. Very disappointed. $80, Minimal food, tasteless. Minimal wine, diners had to buy their own bottle.
We then went downstairs for a couple or drinks to be served by the rudest young staff I've ever come across, no smiles, slammed my drink down on the bar, horrible.
First time coming here, nice pub in nice area. Shame I will not be returning.
