We were at the start of our pub crawl trying to have some fun. The dj played good music although inside it was completely empty. Nevertheless we went inside to dance but were not given a drink claiming I was too drunk (was sober at that stage) without even talking to me. Appaling for a Saturday night and in my opinion very sexist. Definitely NOT a place to come back again

Were pleasantly surprised to be happily accommodated with baby in tow on a Saturday afternoon. Food was reasonably priced pub fare with a twist here and there. Burger was tasty, fish n chips crispy and the fried chicken scrumptious!
Atmosphere was congenial and enjoyable. A little outraged to be charged $8 for a post-mix lemon lime bitters and a soda water. Still, we would return.

Went into Freo for a meal and few drinks came across the Ball and Chain.
Quite relaxed , chilled atmosphere, nice ambiance, staff quite friendly. Drinks were good....😀
Ordered Chicken and Vegetable Pizza good size for two, but didnt have much flavour..

Was there on a Friday night. The staff were very nice and the vibe out front was relaxed and friendly. We had perfect weather on the night so sitting under the festoon lights felt great. Only one gripe and one suggestion. The gripe is no one was collecting empty glasses. They were on tables and taking up bar space as well. We returned ours between rounds and earlier returns were still there on subsequent trips to the bar. And we made a few trips.. the drinks went down very nicely.
The suggestion is turn the horse races off the big screens. No one was watching it and it ruins the vibe... Put some more contemporary sports on, or maybe put up theme photos or something else a bit outside the box.. Just a bit of polish for a good venue. We'd go back.

This bar is pretty cool with its memorabilia some parts kinda feel a bit creepy and haunted but the staff were very friendly and inviting

The manager 0n new years eve was
a sad sack couldn't smile and wen asked a question it was a blank comment. It was a disappointment for a new year's eve night ..we moved on there was 6 off us , ..the music wasn't even given vibes to the new year .. I went to the bar side of the bar and was told not serving here go thier so I did I was told I'm making cocktails here ,drinks are on side not here .OK if it was said a little nicer I'll be fine but it wasn't.

Strange place this, supposed to be the new "In thing" at The Esplanade Hotel, but absolutely no atmosphere, very few customers, no nothing! The hotel marketing says open "until late". The past 2 nights closed by 8.45pm - not surprising! The Esplanade management need to get to grips with this place

Really enjoyed tonight with my friends, it was hella busy some people got rowdy but Shannon the security was absolutely respectful diligent and got the job done. The bar staff were under the pump and they worked tirelessly. Really love to see a good security guard in Freo. Not that we’re short but some definitely stand out. “I just want to keep everyone safe and make sure they have a good night.”- Shannon One of a kind! Keep up the great work Shan you’re a shining light.

Not eaten here so can't score, but great bar staff and great selection of drinks. I just wish it was open more often. Beautiful historical building with lots of atmosphere and a great outside area to watch the world go by.

Nice pub near the beach and part of the Esplanade hotel
Doesn’t open until 3pm.
Has the best array of beers of any pub I found while on holiday in Aus.
Nice atmosphere, good bar staff and live music when we were there.
The baked Camembert vas good too

Nice location. Staff were friendly! Beer was good and the loaded fries and jalapeno poppers were amazing.

I was surprised at how much I liked this place. We went on a Saturday night they had a live band playing good music. The food although it was a limited menu, was delicious and the drinks were even better. Also this is probably the only place I've been where the beer cost the same or more than most top shelf spirits. I wasn't complaining, I was drinking decent vodka.

Haven't eaten here, we've met friends for pre dinner drinks, great atmosphere, awesome selection of drinks, great service 🙂

Had the best chill moment at this place. Cool DJ music on Saturday and live musician on Sunday. Pizza and beer deal for 20 is so cool. And the pizza tasted so good. Highly recommended

Great venue. Drinks nourishing. Highlight was watching Shannon - the female bouncer - expertly diffuse any conflict situation.
Masterclass in different approaches to conflict. Amazing lady.

Great pub located within the Esplanade building. Quick, efficient service. Extensive range of tap beers, wine and spirits. And the live band we saw here were phenomenal. The outdoor beer garden is a great place to hang out and watch the world go by or catch up with friends.

Friendly staff service and great food and and at an even better price if you order the right meal on the right day. Highly recommended for those staying at the Esplanade.

Felt like I was intruding on the staff for daring to ask for a drink. The lady was ok but the Male was super arrogant and rude.
Food was part of the function amd was ok.
I was really excited to go there too so very disappointed in the end

Excellent country pub. Friendly staff.
My five stars is based on the steak I ordered. It's unusual for me to order steak a no one cooks it the
way I like it.
This one however was absolutely 💯 perfect.
Not only excellent quality but seared
hard on the outside, bleeding rare with the tiniest touch of blue.
Worth the drive from Perth.

Dropped by to have a drink but was closed. No business hour mentioned in this portal. Outdoor seating area was well designed and beautiful. The indoor area looked classic and cool. Will drop by again to catch some drinks. Cheers! (2022-04)

can’t fault the service or food, but some lady has walked in talking to herself and after about 15 minutes a man has then told her to be quiet and the barstaff told the man to be quiet, the whole ordeal was unnecessary.. security should have removed the lady before making everyone feel
unfortable

A relaxed place to enjoysome beers, champagne or wine overlooking the park. They also offer a great selection of food including the southern fried chicken.
Definitely worth checking out.

Amazing cocktails!!! They have refreshed this spot and the new drinks menu is amazing. Food menu is small but really great as well. Our new fave spot!
