We went on Tuesday night and waited for $2 tacos and $1 wings for way too long 😅

Went here with family with kids. Portion sizes were good. Staff at bistro and bar were super friendly. Would recommend and come back again.

We live close by and decided to visit for dinner for the first time. The staff were disinterested at best, and we felt less than welcomed as soon as we stepped in. Food was just fine, and unfortunately that's not a compliment given the price tag. The venue itself certainly has potential but there was no effort to create any atmosphere. Not planning on coming back.

We had a great meal last night at the Banksia and it’s great to see the changes to the dining area. We loved the winter menu especially the pie, Paris mash and peas! The staff and cheerful and are focused on service. Cheers Ron

We had a birthday function here and were blown away with the food and the service. The chef communicated with us directly to make sure the menu was organised and could cater for our gluten free guests. The skewer platters and sauces were so tender and tasty and the pizzas were delicious too. The wait staff were so friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

Up there with the best pub food in Sydney. We had a bunch of different entrees and 7 different mains and there wasn’t a scrap of food left behind. Good quality ingredients, everything was fresh and well cooked and presented. They play whatever sport is on and the service is really friendly. Great neighbourhood pub for groups big and small. 10/10.

The Banksia is a great spot for south Sydney locals. Lively atmosphere, with a rotating calendar of special events and deals (showing a wide range of sporting events/UFC, Mother’s Day, St Patrick’s, live music etc). The bistro serves delicious food - pub classics with a Colin Fassnidge spin - and a daily specials board with more interesting and seasonal offerings (dishes such as pigs ear schnitzel and kingfish tartare). The pot pie is an absolute winner, and the filling changes weekly. When busy, it can get really loud in venue, so just keep that in mind if you’re expecting peace and quiet. Cocktail list has some good options which were well made, and the price point is reasonable. Beers on tap include all the usual suspects with a few rotating taps for craft options.

The Banksia Bistro has an exciting new menu launching April 5. We were lucky to be invited by foodie friend Where_do_I_eat_pete and one of the owners of Banksia Bistro, Clayton, who in conjunction with chef Colin Fassnidge of Four In Hand and Leigh McDivitt of 3 Weeds, who, opened this venue just over a year ago. Located on the Princess Highway at Banksia, you’ve probably driven past it many a time, without realising the great dining venue located inside! A pub with your typical bar and sports area, but the venue saw a huge renovation and kitchen overhaul to inspire the locals to experience great food, near home without having to trek to the city. The space has rustic wooden tables, an outdoor section and kids area so it’s very suitable for a group catch up, a date or a meal with the family. We would describe it as a gastro pub with nose to tail cooking. The food is hearty, delicious and certainly very moreish. The new menu adding a sense of nostalgia by adding Prawn toast, which is always a favourite when visiting an old school Chinese restaurant. Crispy bread topped with prawns and sesame seeds, herbs and a lemon wedge, this adds an element to it and a great start to a meal. Their Mezze plate with ham hock, smoked chorizo and tempura Rapid leaves (of the kale family), the accompanying grilled bread and smoked pumpkin mayo was the perfect match. The chicken liver parfait a polarising dish that you either love or don't. Served atop pork skin crackers with pickled watermelon radish and parmesan, it had a number of us going back for more. We shared a seafood entree of whisky cured Ora king salmon with a salmon skin cracker, avocado purée salsa, make sure you squeeze a little lime to adding another element and to cut through the rich flavours. Their famous creamy blue swimmer crab toast with citrus and paprika flavours is another winner and great to snack on with a beverage in hand. Other options from the previous menu include a pigs ear schnitzel, suckling pig sausage roll, it’s great food to accompany a beer or two. Another dish perfect for this includes the chicken wings, crispy and super flavoursome coating, this combined with the ever tasty Kim chi mayo and your heart is warmed. We could have eaten a whole basket.. Or two. These options are great to share amongst friends, but if you’re after your own dish, their mains include burgers and chips, bangers and mash, a ginormous buttermilk’s schnitzel sitting above a huge pile of the most amazing fries (cooked in lard). They have a pie of the week too. Not your regular pie, in French style it is made in reverse, flat pastry on the bottom, with the extremely flavousome beef and Guinness filling with pea purée and greens. We could order this time and time again. Dessert will take you back to your childhood. A banana popsicle is made with bananas, topped with ice magic and crystallised sugar, this is one that the whole family will enjoy. We’ll be back to try a whopper of a 1.2 k Tomahawk steak, but first will be the whole suckling pig. For 10 people, at $80 each with all the trimmings, sounds like a party made in heaven. The new menu begins April 5, and we’re certain you’ll enjoy it as much as us.

Outstanding produce, spectacular service an absolute gem of a place to get very good quality food at a reasonable price. Where else do you get a buttermilk soaked schnitzel as a kids meal?!

Love this pub for the Guinness and their Sunday roast. Being English it’s a hard to find a good roast in Sydney and I cannot fault it here. Ive never really been a fan of chicken schnitzel but theirs is really good, love the coating. Highly recommend the food here.

First time back here since the bistro changed management and the food was really good! Their Bacon Deluxe burger was massive and messy like a good burger should be. Can recommend it and the schnitzel boscaiola. Will be back soon!

Finally make it down to eat at the Bistro after a friend had posted many times the meals he had here. Really enjoyed our selection, very flavoursome meals and good portions. The standout dishes for me were the chicken salad and the greens w/ cheese entree (asparagus and broccolini). I also loved the lettuce side with the barramundi, it simply had this delicious dressing drizzled throughout it and it was amazing. Highly recommend, exceeded expectation.

Excellent food and service. We bought a couple of sides to go with our mains to increase the amount of veggies in our meals and for a bit of variety. It was all tasty. We would recommend Banksia Bistro to others.

Came here for dinner with friends and ordered the Bangers and mash and Beef burger. Both were ok but definitely nothing special. The standout would have been the fries! The sausages were a strange texture - it's like the sausages were boiled so tasted almost mushy and floury. Unsure if it was just what we ordered on the night but we will unlikely be back.

By far the worst pub I have ever been to, this piece of steak cost $38. $38!! for a small rump steak and the vegetable side - $12!!! The only saving grace is the service which was good and the $20 pie with mash and pea special which wasn't too bad. Give this place a miss, plenty of better options in the area.

Blown away by the quality of the food especially for the price. Amazing service, friendly staff. And my God. I have never seen someone put so much effort into cleaning a kitchen at the end of the night. I have worked in alot of kitchens and never once seen someone go to this much effort. This deserves more than 5 stars. Keep up the quality goods guys.

Been to a couple of Colin's previous restaurants, which I've been happy with. This place definitely disappoints in quality/price, but still provided great service from entry to exit. Ordered the Suckling Pig Sausage Roll, Buttermilk Chicken Schnitzel & Roast Pork Rack. The sausage roll was dry - we ate most of the meat but left the pastry. The Schnitzel was was good, but needed something to cut through the meatiness (pickled something). The pork rack was super dry and the crackling was hard to bite through - this dish was not finished off. We commented this to a staff member upon our plate collection and he returned to comment that the pork was overcooked. We received a surprise (apology) ice cream sandwich - it was delicious. It was not overly sweet and had the right amount of bitterness from the caramel. Without this ice cream and great service, I would've rated it 2 stars.

Banksia Bistro is such a great addition to the community vibes in Banksia! I have been longing for a cool, local pub where you can go for a easy going but delicious Sunday roast. The food is inventive whilst still being traditional, current and very tasty. Come for the Sunday roast and stay for dessert - but get in early because it’s first in best dressed with the roasts.

An excellent meal in a trendy pub. The food was top notch and very tasty - couldn't not recommend the gnochi (pictured) enough! Service was prompt and very friendly, only receiving the meal was a little bit slow. Overall a great spot for a meal, will be back again when in the area

$15 only for well cooked pub meals, that’s value for money. Food is great and staff are friendly. Highly recommended.
