You can't judge a book by its cover !! So true We stoped at this place with friends while travelling to Phillip island. So we stopped over to get some food and stayed in the pub's grounds over night in our friends caravan. Although the pub appears very basic, but you can be sure of the quality of the food and friendly welcoming service second to none. Really glad we stoped there.

What a great little pub. Stayed out the back in the pub camping after having our fill in the hotel Friday night. Everything was great - atmosphere, food, staff & the publican we all wish for in our small country town pub. Will definately go back when we in the vacinity again. Thanks 🍻🥃🥩🍗

What a great country pub. I went in for a Parmi and only got half way through it. So I grabbed a doggies bag and back to the truck I went with my breakfast

We parked our caravan in the garden for a small fee whilst waiting for the Tasmania ferry. It's a nice grass area and quiet. The pub is a little shabby but friendly. The food was really good, portions are generous and really enjoyed them.

We camped out the back and had dinner here. Service was quick and friendly. A little disappointed the beef on the Thai salad seemed to be battered and fried but it was still tasty all the same. Very family friendly with a play area for the kids too.

The meals are enormous. We shared the Panko Crumbed Haloumi Fries between 2 people. Before I finished the entree, the Chicken Schnitzel and the main size Thai Beef Salad were delivered to our table. Neither of us finished our meals, purely because they were so large. The food was tasty but I think most people would be happy to pay fractionally less or the same and get a main course that was half the size. As we were attending a live show at the hotel, the main dining room was set up for the show and all meals were being served in the bar area or outside. I suspect there was a combination of lots of new staff and that all meals were being served in the bar area, but things seemed a bit unorganised. The table numbers didn't appear to be in any sort of order so staff delivering meals couldn't easily know which table they were taking the meals to, even with table numbers on display. All the staff were pleasant, it's a great venure for live music and I'd definitely go back, but would order an entree for a main course.

The Barwon Hotel may look a little grungy, but we were happy to find it a welcoming place for lunch. We sat in the bar dining area, with a nice wood fire (it was unseasonally cold for October), and put a couple of bets on while we waited. The kids meals were served super fast and really nice. The veggies were lovely, fish and chips generous. We both had Bob's special. The size was HUGE, and the panko crumbed sausage when dipped in egg yolk and gravy was seriously too die for. Chips excellent too! Crumbed sausages used to be a thing in the 80s/90s, they should still be a thing now. They also have Kievs and a range of good looking schnitzels. Staff and locals were very welcoming and friendly to top it off. We'll be back, thank you.

Table of 8 booked for Mother’s Day, was told normal menu along with special Mother’s Day menu be available. Arrived and - only Mother’s Day menu available - ordered lunch to menu options and told be extra cost to choose the alternative option as described - whole table of 7 other meals delivered, eaten, other tables served and when asked on progress told finishing meal, 10 mins past and as went to cancel order arrived, got refund back after raising points of poor service no longer hungry - 3 kids meals didn’t come with salad as advertised -2 kids drinks didn’t come as advertised and ordered Piss poor performance and hospitality

Meal was just warm, vegies over cooked. Oh, took the pork home for the dogs, hope they'll eat it🙄 Red Wine tasted as though it should be red wine vinegar....was told it was 2014 from S.A, tasted really off. We thought part way through meal, we should've gone to the Black Pearl Pizza Shop at Winch, best Pizza's....now that we can recommend. Avoid the Winch Barwon Pub!!

Made an impromptu stop for dinner at the Winch - did not regret. The crumbed chops were finger licking good. Good range of beers and wines and friendly locals.

Lunch Monday 13 March23 (Public Holiday) Limited Menu Not busy (Our party of 6 adults) Cleanliness - Average. Needs new tables & chairs. 3/5 Food - BIG meals, tasty and served within good timeframe. 5/5 Drinks - Over priced! 1pt Lemon/Lime & Bitters $12 and not great either. Jug soft drink $15 and two flavours just dead flat! These prices are dearer than metro Melb/Syd pubs and clubs, and for a average venue as this should be $10 a jug tops. Would I go back, maybe for the food but would only drink water.

Lovely country hotel still with the old world atmosphere. Excellent food, friendly staff but in the winter you better rug up a bit as it can be a little cool... but that is why the beer and the hot food is there for :)

I'm not sure if we just pick a bad night, it was very busy, so we thought the meals must be good, arrived about 6.45pm we got our meals 8.55pm. Plus I shouldn't get what I ordered because they run out of want I wanted. We have just move in to the area, so it was our first visit, my calamari was a little under cooked same with my chips. My friends from instate ordered t-bones they were cooked well and had no complaints We will try them again, but it was disappointing to have to wait so long for the meals.

Avoid, if you can. I was passing through the area with a travelling companion, and with several hours to go on our trip we stopped in here. First, no contact tracing (QC Code or sign in) was set up. its as if COVID never happened. We ordered the Prawn and Lime rice vermicelli and the lamb and rosemary risotto. Big Mistake. Total order was $50. then there was the wait. 30 minutes. I ask about our meals as we need to be back on the road. 45 minutes. 60 minutes. My travelling companion visits the ladies room, and tells me later no soap. All would probably be forgiven if the food was decent. It was not. The vermicelli stated it was in a nuoc cham sauce. I know what nuoc cham sauce is made from. Water , sugar, lime juice, fish sauce, garlic. This one did not taste like that... more like water flavored water. Then there was the risotto. Over cooked The risotto had entirely broken down into barley like shapes. over salty. Tasted like congealed onion soup mix. We would have raised a fuss, but frankly we had to get to somewhere so we left, food partly eaten.

A quaint pub with excellent views of the surrounding gardens. The staff are lovely and the food is very affordable. My schnitzel came out piping hot and was cooked perfectly. My friend asked for something that was not on the menu and the kitchen gave her what she wanted (nearing the close of kitchen hours too). Their customer service is exceptional. Definitely check out the Barwon Hotel next time you pass through Winchelsea.
