What do you do when you're sprung on with a public holiday and have no plans? Go to a local pub, of course! Well, not for drinking as a teetotaller but rather for the surchage-free, joyful helping of bistro food. Bexley North Hotel's $12 lunch specials immediately caught my eye and we strolled in with food on our minds. The dimmed interior is enlivened with a casual, youthful atmosphere with chatter between the staff and rap music in the background. The kitchen is right opposite the bar and is very convenient to put in your order, buy a drink and sit back all in the same vicinity. We ordered a classic beef burger, southern fried chicken burger and a chicken schnitzel. To our surprise, the burgers were a size fit for a kid and were outmatched by the clump of unremarkable fries. Compare that to the humongous schnitzel in which everything on its plate was much more enticing than two sad little burgers. Even the colourful side salad of cherry tomatoes, tomato wedges and cucumbers was something to be envious about. In between fluffy brioche buns, each unimpressive ingredient fails to stand on its own and cohere together, resulting in weak, forgettable bites. The southern fried chicken was limp and without its distinguishable "southern fried" crunch. The mixed leaves on the bottom were in dire need of sauce to give purpose to its placement. So thank goodness for the spicy chilli mayo to reassure that the chicken burger is still alive and kicking. The beef burger, too, was helped along by the buttery cheddar as the single element that has an edge. Although you can see a heaping of seasoning baked into the batter, the chicken meat is utterly flavourless and can only be saved by the side of sauce. The batter is the same as the one used for the chicken burger, devoid of the tantalising grind when cutting the schnitzel and the mouthfeel. While I applaud the genial, attentive service and easygoing vibes, the food is subpar considering the hefty price tag for the regular menu. I certainly wouldn't pay the original $19 for the size and quality of burgers I had. Perhaps the dishes are reduced for the lunch specials and I am satisfied with the bargain nonetheless, but it is a hard ask for such meagre, uninspired burgers. If you look past the unfulfilling mediocrity of the food, there is a great sense of community here that makes any outsider feel like a local. Maybe I was in the wrong mindset on approaching pub food at a hotel but don't let the taste stop you from having a good time here!

This pub used to be good. It had a great atmosphere, good food and great beers. Once they appointed their general manager, Kyle to run the show, things going downhill from there. With his lack of people skills and negativity, The Pub has gone downhill. It is such a shame for the locals of Bexley North and surrounding suburbs to have to go through such a sad process of elimination or the girls that work behind the bar have always been fantastic, but unfortunately my family and I will not be returning until There are some changes to be made via management.

The salt & pepper calamari doesnt taste good. It's not crispy and tasted weird.
The creamy boscaiola at least saved our dinner.
In the app it says take away✅ but when i asked for a take away container for the left over sweet potatoes, they said it's prohibited. Plastic is not allowed. Okay, but why dont you source for a paper container?
Well, over all, just never coming back here to dine.

The Haloumi burger was good. Not the best burger in the world, but better than most. Good value though. I would probably rate it 4 out of 5, but I’ll give this 5 stars to help with their rating.

People were great, so was the atmosphere. The food wasn't that great, garlic bread was very doughy and garlic prawns were burnt garlic taste. The creme Broulee was cold inside.

Ordered off the board Shoulder lamb $25, vegies good portions of veg, however lamb slices or pieces poor, reheated on hotplate almost overdone.
Bar service nice pleasant staff.
Happy to visit again as Im local and new to area, lets hope no repeat...

Oh, mate! The food here is absolutely amazing, especially the scotch fillet! It might be a bit pricey, but trust me, it's worth every penny. I asked for mine to be cooked medium rare, and they nailed it! So juicy and tender. And here's a little tip: if they ask if you want the steak basted, do yourself a favor and say yes. It adds so much flavor to the meat. The portion size is a bit on the smaller side, but hey, quality over quantity, right? Overall, the food here is top-notch. You won't be disappointed!

Not the family friendly pub it claims to be. Got told to leave because “kids aren’t legally allowed to be at pubs after 10”, I’ve never heard of that law, neither had my father who runs pubs. Really embarrassing from a pub that claims to be family friendly, sort it out.

I will nevet go back in this pub!!! STAFF INSTANTLY asked me to remove my glasses why? i dont know I JUST FINISHED WORK. its a summers day i dont want to sit in a garden bar with my glasses off my eyes. my eyes are senstive. I found this request was unreasonable i didnt even have a chance to buy a drink. Was there something my eyes were suppose to say

I used to visit this place very often, the staff were very friendly and welcoming however as soon as the directing manager Kyle has be appointed everything has changed dramatically. He is very arrogant and shows signs of racism towards customers. As a result, I no longer go there anymore and will not until the management changes for the better.

I think steak got thinner (well technically i went on special deals) but used to b more thicker meat.. any how.. very friendly staff and quick serving.. I'll still recommend it for local pub better than any others around the area😉

I love the food here and staff are nice especially the security guards. Very helpful when mum was using the walker.

Honestly the worst food I've ever had just today .. I payed 60 dollars for two chicken parmy'z which you have to pay 5 dollars extra for two small peices of ham 😂 how dumb the meal had no parmy sauce legit no taste ,didn't enjoy salad was gross mash potato was starchy and slop like ,and gross vegetables weren't cooked longer than a minute .
I complained to the head chef and he told me he would tell the head chef yet he was the head chef ,don't go there they used to be good 4 years back but they have changed and can't cook skimpy on sauce can't cook pepper sauce really over peppery ..I should of went to the chefs wife at the golden chef must go never changes always good food.
Don't go here you can cook better food at home better than this place 💯.

Hi Staff of Bexley north hotel , Im Chris Im a regular at your establishment I love your venue your floor staff and management. but I thought I’d write this review to raise some awareness regarding your security guard that you have on I noticed on multiple occasions he has been sleeping. Tuesday again at 3.30 am and this morning Thursday at 12.30 am , I feel this is not a professional look and very poor show from the quality of guards the company who you use . Me as a patron I don’t feel safe but also disgusted that no body has the audacity to say anything

Good food but… I’m not a huge eater and the proportions are pretty standard for a pub which is fine. When I asked for a container to take home the other half of my food I had paid for I was told “we don’t allow people to take their food home anymore” … what a waste of money and food… very disappointing…

Food here is amazing scotch fillet is expensive but well cooked, I asked for medium rare and recived medium rare. If they ask if you want the steak basted do yourself a favour and say yes.
Feed is relatively small considering the price but again, is good food

Food and service was great. The prices are the best I've seen anywhere. My only issue was the rowdy pub and the smell of stale cigarettes. But that's just me.

Bistro is highly recommended for post-COVID dining. The chicken schnitzel is fantastic, 10 out of 10 👍 (Pic is of half-eaten schnitzel which was quickly finished off!)
