Canberra Labor Club

We were a table of six and will not be going back 👎the food was terrible the rump was over cooked, burnt covered in salt to try to cover that it was off): the brandy pepper sauce was so chilli hot it burnt our mouths, the barramundi was fine, salad wilted, veggies water logged, chips fine, the manager rude. The atmosphere of the club is depressing and down. Reception staff not friendly, coffee shop lady friendly and helpful but it closed at 9pm ridicules time to close!!! Free parking and plenty of it was the best part of the experience, now I feel it is due to the club’s atmosphere and food 👎👎👎 Tell us when the restaurant contract is under new management and we will give it another try 👍

We ran a trivia here and it went perfectly! There was extremely good communication with them when organising the event. The space was set up so nicely, food was delicious and came out very quickly, and all the staff I interacted with were very kind and helpful. Highly recommend !

We ordered medium well. That is what we got. It’s bitter, pretty hard and dry. The staff said that this is how they cook for medium well. Plus that took 30mins to cook(no wonder it's like that). And when we tried to get the refund, the first staff said they could only do that with my card but when we got our card the second staff said they could only do cash??????? We spent 42 dollars on that, 30mins to wait a But still got hungry. Pity I can’t give them 0 star.

Went to Bistro for a family dinner. Was such a farce that most of us will never go there again. Half the table didnt get their meal they wanted as staff kept coming out saying they had run out of the meal that they had bought and paid for. Then the 2nd choice wasnt available for some as well. I ordered the Seniors fish of the day thinking I was getting a discount of my price not getting ripped of blind by paying 25% less on my bill only to find they took away 50% of my fish fillet. I was starving when I left. All the salads were inedible as the leaves were funky and on the turn and tomato was mushy. Also meal arrival was very slow. Btw. we were there at 6:30 so not late. All in all a very bad experience.

We had the steady special. My veggies were a bit cold but the steak was really well cooked. The bar was understaffed initially but this was rectified

Wednesday pasta special is a decent deal. Overall quality of service and food is satisfactory, especially when the cost is less than dining out in a food court.

This place was fantastic. Great prizes on Thursdays night. The food at the restaurant was delicious

Pretty good food and the May schnitzel special is the best value out there. Other menu items are great but have noticed portions decrease in size which I hope is a trend that doesn't continue. Not a fan of the app special, honestly don't see the point and it complicates things.

Nice experience at bar, exciting that they have nice range of cocktails on menu. Bar staffs are really awesome and seems enjoying their work. Mango daiquiri, blue Hawaiian and lovers cloud are must try.

Nice club and well priced bar but Selections Bistro really brings it down. In a big way! Pricing and portion sizing is fine but the service and quality of food is woeful. Without a doubt, the worst club food I have ever had. We were staying a week at the Mecure and as it is downstairs, we decided to check it out. Ordering food is quick and easy enough but that's where it ended for us. We ordered the Honey Chicken and roast of the day plus a serve of Garlic bread. We were asked if we wanted the bread as the entree. We said yes. It took 35 minutes to come out and instead of looking like the photo and other photos on other reviews (sliced sideways in 2 pieces and golden brown), it was what looked like a frozen store bought one with vertical cuts into about 6 pieces. It was not cooked properly and the crust was like a rock. It was not pleasant and not worth the $8 we paid for it. My Honey Chicken came out 15 minutes later. It was cold and tough. Not even sure if there was chicken in it. The rice was just a big gluggy clump. After 1 hour from when we first ordered, we asked where the roast was. The guy at the counter went and checked. He told us they were just making it. We were fed an excuse that the kitchen had a lot of trainees. The meal came out and once again we were given the same excuse. I said it wasn't good enough. Turns out the meal was inedible and 90% of it was not eaten. The gravy didn't even help. It was just as bad as the rest. Photos show what was left behind. What a waste. We were refunded the money for the roast but my wife left hungry. We were with a larger group who mostly stayed in the Hotel across the street. They knew we were going there and asked how it was. We told them how bad it was so they steered clear. The place was only 1 quarter full. How bad would it be if they were packed???? We will be staying at the Mecure again but won't be back to the Labour Club. There are plenty of othere eateries within walking distance.

My husband and I have been eating at the bistro for many years. Unfortunately, over the past few years, we have found the consistency of food is lacking in quality, considering they charge restaurant prices. I would expect restaurant quality food. The only plus for us was Chris. His pleasant nature and focus on customer satisfaction is second to none.

Lunch time visit while we were nearby and the Labor Club was recommended. The bistro menu had a variety of food including wok stir-fry. I chose my all-time favourite 'Bangers and Mash', a meal I like to get at pubs mainly. 3 large sausages on a bed of creamy Mash, accompanied with a rich onion gravy, pumpkin, beans, corn cob and broccoli. This meal has made the top spot in my all-time list of Bangers. The Belco Burger was also a great choice.

Loved labour club dinners for many years. Been twice in as many weeks and the food in the bistro is terrible. Frozen cheeseburger from Woolies has more flavour. Chicken schnitzel burger was cold, and cardboard flavoured. A pub meal isn’t supposed to blow your socks off, but at minimum required to be tasty. In my opinion, a bistro can be the difference between choosing one club for the night over another. Will not be back.

Like those below ,I ordered the pork roast of the day and it was dry and cold. ' all the trimmings' was frozen veges (cold) and 2 boiled potatoes. It came out with some mushroom gravy which I took back. My husband's medium steak came out black and like boot leather and again with frozen veges. Terrible, especially for the price. Do yourself a favour and find somewhere else to eat. Terrible and not worth the money.

Just awful. $92 for 3 of us. 40 minute wait for ordinary lamb shanks with watery Jus, frozen cheeseburger with cold fries. To add insult the lamb shanks and the roast of the day come with cheap frozen veggies that had probably been microwaved. No baked potato or pumpkin with the roast of the day. Cheap and nasty. Homeless shelters probably serve better food. Run away.

I have been meeting with a group of friends here every Saturday for over a year. I always buy the Hawaiian Parmigiana, the quality has been consistently average, but at least it’s consistent. The one thing that has always been excellent is the service from Chris, he is always friendly and customer centric in his approach and often brings a laugh to the table along with the food. Thanks Chris, you make an average Parmy worth coming back for.

I am sorry to post the 1 star result, but my visit was not a pleasant one for mothers day dinner on Saturday. The lamb cutlet was inedible. I have never before seen a cutlet come out looking like a cylinder/cone shape, made the meat unchewable. I also got cokes from the bar that looked like light brown water, I brought this to the attention to the bartender and i had to order coke bottles as she was not sure why it was discoloured, was ok with coke bottles, but should have bee charged for glass of cokes, due to not being my fault on purchasing the bottked drinks

Had the rump steak - was the best steak I think I've ever had, so good. Other people said their meals were good too. Bit noisy what with the games etc nearby (maybe install some more sound blocking panels?), but otherwise a decent night out.

Fabulous dinner. The quality of the service and the food were both great. My partner and I ordered steaks which were perfectly cooked. The manager at the till was really welcoming, professional and knowledgeable, the food was served by a friendly waiter. The new management is really making a difference!

Excellent venue to hand out with friends. They got a lovely cafe and restaurant for lunch and dinner. Also, have pool tables with a nice sports bar. If you like to try your luck, they got pokes too.

Excellent club. The food served in the club is presented well and tastes good. My favourite was the dumplings. Membership to the club was extremely cheap! I got my money back straight away after buying 1 meal. Membership cost $1 for 10 years when staying at the adjacent hotel. They have senior prices for meals, and daily specials. The staff are helpful and friendly

Chicken Schnitzel special in May, Chicken Schnitzel is max and taste good , not dry at all

Being a regular member of the club, I really love this place as it has good vibes and I frequently visit it to relax a bit. I used to have many dinner meals here but in the last couple of weeks or so, they have reduced the portion sizes and the quality seems to have been compromised as well. The soup of the day was always my favourite which now comes in a ridiculously small size with a ridiculously small piece of bread on the side and still they charge the same price. Pasta portion size has also reduced. The customer service though is still good at times. Used to come in regularly but now I make sure that I have my meal from somewhere outside even if I want to visit the club. The food pictures I’ve posted are old ones.

Been coming here regularly. The quality of the food has always been questionable (It’s a club bistro - don’t expect 5-star meals) but it’s so wildly inconsistent it seems the chefs need to go back to doing basic training again. The steak special for July ($22 rump) would be reasonable if your meal didn’t arrive heavily charred and turned into leather (ordered a medium steak). My advice to club management: fix the bistro. Hire proper chefs and wait staff. You can turn the place around. The staff at the cafe are a Joy, and Judy is always a welcome smiling face on the front desk. The bistro front-of-house don’t seem to care about the complaints that come in. Also- if you can’t actually run wifi or mobile data in the club, stop pushing your stupid app that nobody can use. [don’t ask me to call venue management- we’ve tried going through onsite staff and nothing has changed]

Amazing meals at The Labor Club Belconnen. Fresh, tasty and big portions with quick service and friendly staff.

Always a great place for dinner when we're in the area. They have a really good range of foods, including gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian options. The prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly and helpful.

A good example of what club food should be. Love the food and atmosphere. Could do with better seating plan layout and better food serving services. Other than that, above average club! Very well done.
