Challa Gardens Hotel

We’ve been here a few times for the steak night and it is one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time! Cooked great, great chips, fresh salad.

We take our dad for lunch a couple of times a week. The setting is not the Ritz but the venue is clean with a focus on covid safety. The staff is very friendly and look after you the minute you go in. They have two menus one of which is a seniors that has several choices while the other is a general variety with a reasonable choice. The food, regardless of menu, is good pub tucker, ( believe me I've had much worse and paid big dollars). I don't think I've had a bad meal.

Went for lunch and had the lunch time special = fish and chips. Salad bar and vegetable bar were fling. We have been here a few times for lunch. Also great to eat if you are alone 8 August 2022 Went for lunch. Ate the mixed grill. It was Hugh and $30 each as one had Dianne sauce and one had mushroom sauce. We had a two for one voucher which we got in junk mail last month. Steak was succulent, vegetables were fresh, pork fennel sausage had lots of flavour. Thanks to Melissa and Barb who served us

Visited at lunchtime, 1st Friday of December. Spacious public house, a bit outdated. Most staff friendly and helpful. Basic pub menu, including Seniors lunch menu; reasonable pricing; quality medium. Adequate parking, although needs re-asphalting; disability entrance but no specific parking. Easy to locate; easy to arrive by car, bus, taxi. Has pokies, tab outlet (including tv coverage), 8-ball table and outdoor seating.

Very nice and traditional layout. Near bustop and service station.

Used to have help yourself buffet style veg & salad area. Was always busy. This was THE reason to go there. This is now gone. Not a soul there when I recently visited and walked straight out again.

This hotel needs to close down I’ve been going there for 40 years was a good hotel & the meals we had was good , this place has gone down hill was there last night the dinning room was empty 6 people in the pokies , I don’t know how they can pay their staff to be honest sad to see such a good place go down . After reading the recent reviews my son and I decided to check it out must admit I agree with the reviews I DO NOT RECOMMEND

They do a great cornbeef meal there ,the service was good and friendly atmosphere

The food here has got a lot better. My dinner was very enjoyable and the service was great. I will be going back for sure.

Small pub. Doesn't look fancy. But friendly accommodating staff. I ordered after 8pm & happy to still serve meals. Trio of seafood was delicious and cooked well. Simone & Adam were very friendly and fun.

Rump Steak, Gravy with Veggies was great 😀👍. Ordered Medium Rare as came out Medium Rare. Delicious and very good Price for the amount of veggies and chips and gravy you get. Highly Recommended for everyone!

Ordered the fish trio, salt & pepper squid and some garlic bread. Jug of coke was in a plastic flimsy jugs, lack of table space and no table water was supplied. Lack of napkins on the table as well. Dinner rolls 1 each and not cooked properly, or not enough that the dough was not cooked throughout. The most tasteless oily margarine packets were provided but they are meant to be warm not watery mess. Garlic breads x3 - the bread was average, but excessively coated in same butter/margarine on large dinner plates? Tasted like jar garlic paste or spread. Fish Trio - Tarte sauce was definitely a no, the taste of oil mixed with a watery herbs in there and for me it just tasted odd. One tiny slice of lemon, salad was drenched in zest vinegar mix of some kind of dressing, in a small bowl, chips were herb and salty, but needed to be balanced right (top much spices and salt!) Fish wasn't anything spectacular, cheap bland batter. I cannot comment on salt and pepper squid, the food tastes like it's definitely all frozen. Surprisingly it took 20 minutes to get the garlic bread out. Staff appeared friendly and nice service by a very young girl, she kept coming up to our table, asking if everything was ok?? - Please train your staff - it was not busy at all, only 2 other tables so it was not busy to the point staff needed to collect plates and come to the table until we left? I think the noisy and faint smell of the gaming room (right across the way from dinning area) needs to be blocked off - customers and guests might want to enjoy their meals without coin machines etc. Car park needs TLC but apparently, I'm not the only one who's saying this but I can definitely state my experiences as a local guide. It's your typical bogan pub - cheap meals don't necessarily have to be such low quality though. Definitely popular with booners and gambling types. Atmosphere feels really odd. But if you want cheap & don't care about standards then this is the pub for you. I believe it can improve.

Lack of service there lady eating tea and no one relieved her so she let me stand at bar and kept eating her tea and not served me

I will never go there again. Very disappointed. Went there with a group for dinner. Hot bread rolls were served with sachets of butter sitting directly on top of the bowl of hot bread rolls. Butter sachets were hard to open and several patrons struggled to get the tops off the sachets because of the seal. When the seals were finally lifted hot oil ran everywhere out of the sachets. It was liquid, like water, because the butter had completely melted and turned to oil from sitting on top of the hot bread rolls. Patrons holding the sachets and struggling to open them got covered in greasy, fatty oil . I had oil over my good trousers, the lady opposite me had oil over her lovely dress and the fellow next to her had oil over his shirt and jacket. It was embarrassing and annoying. I am having difficulty trying to get the grease out of a new pair of expensive black trousers. Later, when I was able to speak to the manager about the problem, her response defied belief...." that is how we always do it " I was told. No apology, no empathy, no sense of concern , no duty of care , and unwilling to accept feedback and acknowledge that their method of serving the butter on top of the hot rolls was flawed. Dumb ! Thoughtless !Inconsiderate ! And food was only average. One person didn't get his main course and had to complain, and one person didn't get his desert and had to complain. Not a happy experience. I was pleasantly surprised by a recent visit for dinner to the Challenge Gardens Hotel. I had a beef schnitzel, salad, chips and gravy. The price was pretty much in line with similar venues but the quality and quantity of the meat was well above the normal standard and was cooked to perfection. Also worthy of mention was the service which was first class and the tap beer specials which went all night - $5 pints are great value. Some others at the same table were a bit disappointed with their steaks being a bit chewy but overall the standard was very good.

I stayed here for 4 weeks in Adelaide. Great value for room. Reception is very helpful. Guests have access to a shared lounge and kitchen. Unfortunately not many rooms to book and I am yet to book another room.

I don't even want to put a star. I used to go here every Tuesday night for schnitzel night and steak night on Fridays also... Well I went today and wow the atmosphere there has changed that much in a week that I WILL NOT go there again...... Maybe the Mansfield Park Hotel will have to be my next hotel to get my money for dinners

Had the Seafood Basket yesterday. Fish, calamari and prawns were cooked right - as in prawn not overcooked and hard, fish and calamari - both cooked and juicy! That's why... I had the veges to go with the seafood and even the veges are cooked right, not over or undercooked. Spot on. Making the dish very tasty... AND Plentiful. And the staff, serving staff and the bar/lotto very nice. Fyi, noticed in Google maps saying a low-key place. Just to assure you it's not. And with a well discounted price for their Special Day/Dish they have it's a 5 star review!

Had liver onion and bacon and the liver was tough and dry. The gravy was like clag glue but the mashed potato was hot and creamy best part of my lunch. My husband had the roast pork.... NOT IMPRESSED with it eithrr6

Great customer service provided. The lunch time meal was very good. The meals were served quickly and tasted wonderful.

Gather round at the Challa. Decked out in all the AFL colours with friendly games of handball and darts made it an enjoyable weekend experience.Gret thank you to Mel and her staff for there service. Special mention to Jackson for getting everyone involved.

Friendly and wholesome atmosphere. Great gaming and complimentary coffee.

Food was on the table quickly, and the service was great. They do honor the senior's card. and ask if we were enjoying our meals, there were 8 of us. It was a birthday occasion for one of our group.

Foods improved after a few off years, well snitty night is my only gauge. But nicely dressed lil pot of salad with two wedges of tomato! Nice hot bread roll (also served with a portion of butter, unlike the Halfway nearby). Right sized jug of gravey with also a side serving of potato salad. All on a bed of chips (tho a bit of the tasteless frozen type) almost would be better to leave em out completely! So for $11 bucks ya can't complain. Good service too! Friendly and down to earth.

Excellent steak night Fridays! Very generous serves. Salt and pepper squid absolutely delicious. Friendly staff. Interior needs a spruce up. Lots of pokies unfortunately. Great meals if you're in the area.

Dined here twice. Both times have been good. Food is always nice, and decent amount on your plate. Salad was nice and fresh. Food came out nice and hot (we were a large group everyone was happy) Prices are affordable They also have a senior menu and have half sizes on menu for some items.

Came here for a meal. Have often been disappointed by pub meals these days, but no here! I had the slow roasted pork and it was fantastic. Well exceeded my expectations for a pub meal. It gets 11 out of 10 from me. The service was also great. Friendly and efficient staff. Do yourself a favour. Come for a meal.

Absolutely delicious Meal as always, the most friendliest staff and service just a great experience. Nice and clean with a play area for the kiddos, Table of 6 all happy here :) Thanks guys we will be back soon
