Top food experience all around: Perfect parmi of the week! The meat succulent, the crumb shell crunchy, the prawns great quality and tasty, juicy!, the fries crispy, the salad as well, so fresh, and awesome dressing. All in all: Great, compliments to the chef, that’s how it should be!!! First time I’ve even here but will definitely be back!

The staff at Maddens are very helpful and friendly. Nothing seems to trouble them too much. ||||However I can't say the meal at the Local Legends Bar was anything I'd rush back to try again. ||||Usually fish and chips is a safe bet. Can't go wrong you would think. However I was quite disappointed with a fatty fish and chips which came with little in the way of fresh salad and small portion at that. However others may have felt differently. I had been on a long drive so maybe tiredness on my part had something to do with how I received the meal. The noise from music and patron chatter was a bit more than I wanted too. I'll give the place another go somewhere down the track.

The place was well set up however the service was lacking had to wait forever to get a meal and when it finally did turn up the batter on the fish was over cooked. I would never use the place for functions. If you book a room everyone has to go out and order your meal seperately , if would be far better for to use someone to take everyones order in the room and table number and give them a payment docket when you meal arrives.

The hotel is going thru renovations at the moment,
The bathrooms were clean, staff friendly and ample breakfast available in the morning
Surprisingly there were ample PowerPoints in the rooms for charging my devices
It is evident new wiring has taken place in the accommodation block
Overall a pleasant stay

The best food in Camperdown by far. This is a must try, highly recommend for anyone coming to Camperdown. We ordered the steak, parma and Cobb loaf, everything was cooked to perfection. We came back twice during our short weekend away

Stopped in for dinner last night. The staff in the main bar were lovely and very welcoming! We ate in the bistro had the parma and pistachio lamb, both were fantastic, staff were attentive. Bistro setting is worth a look, quirky layout. Highly recommend :-) Thanks a lot.

Stopped here on a recent road trip to enjoy a meal. Beautiful old style pub setting and feel.|The menu has plenty of options to suit a fussy eater, unfortunately we were not fussy enough.|The spring roll entrees were just red cabbage rolls in disguise with a strange hybrid vegetable/fruit side salad.|Very disappointed to the eyes and stomach.|The 2 mains ordered of pork belly and lamb shank missed the mark completely.|The shanks were luke warm with excessive bay leaves to be extracted each mouthful and very bland .|The pork belly wasn’t well seasoned or cooked to the point of butter knife extraction.|The plump sauce was a little sweet and excessive, the vegetables hit the spot.|Not enough choice of wines per glass, and excessive noise from a rambunctious table of 15 didn’t make it enjoyable.|Staff seems great and friendly natured.

So we decided to book a room and stay the night. It is a lovely place to stay if you are on a budget. The antique stairs to the next floor where we had our room was so beautiful and the room was spacious enough if you just want to have a sleep. There is two shared bathrooms, one for the ladies and one for the men. Also 2 seperate toilets. So don't forget your dressing gowns and slippers. We didn't hear any of the noise from the party that still went on for 2 more hours after we went to bed. Breakfast was included and there was a lounge with a fridge, all the cutlery, plates, bowls and glasses for if you wanted to have a glass of wine or something like that. In the fridge was milk, orange juice, bread. On the shelf were the small servings with honey, jam and vegemite to put on your toas. Not bad for $70 for 2 people per night. Highly recommended.

Really impressed with dinner here. Delicious generous sized meals at reasonable prices with friendly excellent service. I loved it. Will be back for sure.

Parma was less than impressive, twice the price for half the meal compared to the one I had in Geelong last week and not the nicest, pretty sure it was processed chicken breast and not freshly made like the one I had the week before.
A parma at $23 should be a top notch meal but I won't be ordering that again, which makes it hard because that's my "out for tea" meal.
Desert was awesome! Sticky date pudding with ice cream, absolutely beautiful!
Service was good, though there was a big time difference in our 4 meals arriving with 20 minutes from the first to the last.

Now just a pokies joint and no longer a cosy country pub. They don't even serve meals or run a bottleshop anymore - the new owner seems focussed on gambling revenue. It's incredibly sad when you consider the impact of gambling addiction on rural communities. Thankfully the lovely Hampden Pub down the road has a great vibe, good meals and an excellent beer garden!

My brother and I just visited the hotel and was discussed in the mannerism from the so called female manger very unprofessional very rude and we will never return to such a discussing horrible place where they employ scum. The manager was even annoyed when I asked for a cup of coffee let alone a biscuit as she stated to me “ only one packet”. I’ve never been so humiliated and look like an idiot from a so called manager that obviously needs to go to school to learn good manors.

I thought the Commercial Hotel was great. The staff were very helpful. Various size rooms to meet anyone's needs. A tape in dining area would be nice to make tea.

Incredibly welcoming staff.
It was one of the hottest days and I was waiting for the train to Melbourne. The lady behind the bar was incredibly welcoming and considerate. I did not get her name, but her thoughtfulness will live long in my memory.

I'm reluctant to share my 5 star rating of this hotel because I'm really tempted to keep it as 'a best kept secret'. But in the interests of sharing the bounty, what a truly wonderful establishment. First of all, the staff - brilliant! The accommodation, would rank with any of the high 4-star competition. And at half the price, for a queen suite overlooking the main street with tea and coffee plus a kitchen with multiple breakfast options available. All inclusive. Spotlessly clean and beautiful Victorian architecture.

I have left a review on Black Rhino Group if anyone would like to read that. New owners have stuffed this pub in 20 days.
This 4 star review was for the previous owners of 56 years.
We have an up and down experience at our "local"., but tonight it was good. Our meals arrived together and we're quite enjoyable. Staff gave good service.

I came in not too long ago and was served by some very unpleasant staff in which resulted in a conversation with the so called venue manger with a dumb pixie cut.
She was rude and dismissive and I will never ever eat biscuits, drink or gamble here again
But I may have a coffee if I’m in the areab

Historic charm, clean, good quality comfy mattresses and bedding, great parmis, avoid rooms 1-7 though since the face the main road - trucks roar past 24/7. The slightly small double rooms out the back are great.

Have been here a few times and never again. Venue itself is nice well set out with private rooms if needed. Meals are very small, in fact I asked if they had given us a kids meal by mistake! Service is poor and very unfriendly waitress staff who prefer to stand in groups talking than looking after customers.Prices are too high for what you get and are not reasonable at all.

Had our annual family Christmas party here and it was lovely. Tables decorated with Christmas deco which added to the festive feel. The meals were delicious! I don’t think there was a single complaint about the food. I had the chicken parmigiana, chips and salad. It was soo good. The chips were cooked perfectly. The chicken was fantastic. Decent sized servings. Kids meals came out quite fast. Good small town, quality food.

Had been our regular Friday night hang……..new owners now, food is not up to scratch anymore…..meat warm/hot, veg and chips just slightly better than cold and the garlic bread is no better than woolies stuff for under $2 Really disappointed

Great old historic pub. Good accommodation without the frills. Share bathroom clean and tidy . Accommodation on the first floor on magnificent stair case.
Restaurants closed due to no chef. However worth a visit when down Camperdown way.

Great atmosphere, great architecture, absolutely lovely staff! Very flexible with meal options and some bargain prices! Catered very well to my other two guests which were either lactose intolerant or gluten intolerant. Takes the stress out of eating for them! Feel like I've found a little gem with this establishment! If I'm hear Camperdown again I'll definitely be calling in.

Food was bloody terrible and cold . I ordered Cabnara and bloody got spaghetti in cheese sause . Mums chips were cold . Won't be back and we used to go every week . No more .

Food was average but the portions were massive, good service, the real problem was that we were entertaining our kids with singing a long to some songs (I have 3 under the age of 7) and was told that someone had asked for us to turn it off, and that we needed to turn it off, so not a family friendly place. Head up the road to the "Steak Road" pub instead heaps better

Fantastic place for a meal and drinks, not so much the accommodation. The bed was very uncomfortable and only had one thin pillow for each of us. But definitely worth going for a meal! Great service and atmosphere.

Called in without a booking on what was probably one of their busiest days. They fitted us in and while the wait for our meals was long, the food was very very good. The staff were lovely and brought us chips to tide the kids over while we waited. I had the prawns which were delicious, as was the rack of lamb. Would definitely go back and recommend it.

Booked for lunch yesterday for four and from the phone booking to leaving, was an excellent experience. Food was fantastic, good pub grub, beer was cold and service excellent. Even the facilities were spotless clean. Highly recommend. :)
