About Doctor Syntax Hotel
No-frills rooms in a down-to-earth hotel featuring a sports bar, a beer garden & a restaurant. This unassuming hotel dating from 1846 is 3 km from guided tours at the Cascades Female Factory Historic Site and 4 km from the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. The 10 simple rooms feature flat-screen TVs, minifridges and en suite bathrooms, as well as Wi-Fi, and tea and coffeemaking facilities. Amenities consist of a laid-back restaurant, a beer garden and a sports bar. Parking is available.

レストランとパブを経営されているお店の二階。||夜うるさくて眠れない、困るということはありませんでした。||すっきりしたデザインですが、ベッドの掛布にステッチが入っていたり、ペットボトルの水がサービスされてて、気さくな老夫婦の接客も程よく、気持ちよく泊まれました。||いわゆる街の中心地からは少し離れますが、ホテルそばにもレストラン、スーパーがありますし、このホテルのレストランでも、美味しいワインやビール、料理が楽しめます。

房間整潔乾淨，雖然沒有電梯，前台人員有幫忙搬行李上房間，附近有很多餐廳，步行就可到大型超市，有免費停車場，很適合自駕旅客，十分推介。

小孩很喜歡飯店提供的床鋪和懶骨頭沙發，房間乾淨，符合期待，整體來說很滿意，如果有電梯和浴室蓮蓬頭低一點會更好

Would have been nice to know that no one would be there for check-in and that restaurant etc would be closed. Saw no staff during our stay.

When you pay 45 dollars for a hot and cold seafood platter you expect something special. It looked amazing, but alas it was not. Blue Grenadier in batter was too greasy and mushy. The scallops were shrivelled up and hard tiny balls. Plenty of mussels in a sugary brine. The smoked salmon, calamari and chips were it, and who d ooe sent feel guilty eating salmon these days?
In a nut shell it's pub grub trying to be something it's not. I should of gone the schnitty.

What an awesome pub, very clean and nice inside and out. The menu is endless and caters for every taste. The 1st time I've been there and we were very impressed, well be back to try something else on the awesome menu.

what a fab meal we had, I highly recommend it, the staff and the food were amazing and so, so enjoyable. Its a must whilst in Hobary. Bookings, however are advisable

We went there to have dinner Sunday night 21st March and it was all closed even though the sign on the doors said open 7 days 11am until late. Not even a sign to say why. They missed out on 4 visitors wanting meals and drinks

We walked in just before the kitchen closed, and they were nice enough to wait for us to make up our minds. The food was good, the service was fast and friendly.

We stayed there for 3 nights. Great location and very neat and clean, however, do not stay in Number 1. The room was stuffy, couldn’t open the windows because of the noise, the lights shone through, could not put the air con on because it was noisy. The bed had a board running through the middle. Our room was not serviced for 3 days even after we put the request sign on the door. No clean towels, no extra toilet paper no restock tea or coffee, no milk replacement. ( these things are standard). When we spoke to the owner about the noise he said he would try and move us but we never saw him again!! Food in the restaurant was good but overpriced as was the drinks. We don’t usually complain and have stayed in many places in a Tasmania but I would advise looking elsewhere for accommodation.

We stayed in what was advertised at their king room, but instead of a king bed they had just pushed two single beds together and put a king size sheet over them. They weren’t even nice single beds either. Then there was the overbearing noise from the road and the blinds did sweet FA to keep the light out at night and our room was almost fully lit while they were down. If you need a place to stay, sleep on a bench. If you can’t find a bench maybe consider this place.

Went there for tea last night with a group of friends. Decided to have the pan fried Blue Eye Trevalla.
What a mistake, my fish looked ok, that was until I cut into it. It was absolutely rare and the middle was cold. It had obviously been cooked before it had fully thawed out. My friend had the same and his was rare and inedible too.
The front of house staff were most apologetic and sorted out replacement meals for us.
They explained that it was a new chef. Whilst I understand that mistakes can happen, serving up raw fish is unacceptable.
I won’t be rushing back for a meal anytime soon☹️

Went there for lunch with 3 other friends and we all had the Porterhouse Black Angus 300gram. Not one negative comment at our table. The steak was cooked to perfection and was so tender and juicy with the most beautiful char grilled flavour. Definitely on our return list for our regular Friday lunches!!

Went here recently for a xmas lunch. Lovely meal and everyone out of a group of 20 were more than happy with what was provided! Nice and clean up market pub with really good service. No doubt ill be back to have a meal in the near future!

Went for the Wednesday Quiz night. Definitely a great place to go with good atmosphere. Parking can be tricky but once you work out the layout it gets easier.

Went for dinner. Prior to getting there we perused the extensive menu.
That should have sounded the alarm bells.
One ordered fish. The portion served would have been no more than 100g yet cost $32.
The lamb curry was devoid of lamb, basically a bowl of chickpeas.
The roast lamb had a disnstinctive odor to it.
All in all a terrible dining experience.
Staff were very friendly though.

We had a family meal at the Syntax last week. Seven people and we all had different meals. The food was delicious, there wasn't one complaint. The service was really good, in fact our waiter really helped make the evening even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back soon.

We had a family dinner while on holiday. The food was pub food, albeit maybe a couple fo dollars per meal more than we would have expected. The service staff were friendly and the food was pretty much the quality you expect from a pub meal. It wasn't high end, but it was good and there were no complaints.

We discovered this hotel almost by accident looking for somewhere for dinner. Walk through the front bar to the dining room at back. Very busy around dinner time, lots of families. Usual menu, but good, portion sizes generous and not too expensive. Staff were fast and friendly as well.

Very weird! Cross between a betting shop and a pub... But really nice.
Decent beer and wine choices. Food too. Odd collection of sport on screen - greyhound racing, horses, cricket, whatever... And Keno. Maybe not a 'date' venue - but, otherwise it's pretty decent. Just don't expect olde English pub 😁

Very friendly and accomodating staff, good food, Livio is the best bartender you'll meet anywhere. Rooms were newly renovated and very comfortable, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.

Very convenient location, just on the Main Street so very easy access to food, they have a bar just right downstairs food. Very clean room, loved the shower! There’s a mini fridge and ironing board available and there’s wifi!

Took the family here after finishing the Overland Track. Every meal that we were served was excellent, well thought out by the chefs and the plates were full. We also were looked after by the bar staff and who knew the menu well. Would definitely come again.

Today 4 of us were at Dr Syntax for lunch we have dined here a few times now always satisfied and a nice meals.
Three out of four of us today were happy with the meals but have to say that the slow cooked lamb curry was somewhat very disappointing.
It was more like a bowl of vegetables with a few bits of lamb which to me was not slow cooked or it would have fallen apart?
No curry detected at all was also supposed to have coconut in it but no taste of coconut at all as for a curry taste nothing I think maybe the curry mixture was waved over what was in the bowl was so looking forward to a lamb curry.
Service was great and the staff were quite friendly.

Thoroughly enjoyed the slow cooked pork loin and yummy potatoes and greens. There were 8 of us and all the meals came out together (a rare treat) hot and fresh. No one disappointed. Service was great too. Will definitely return

This place is often booked out, finally caught a night we could walk in.|Service, food and atmosphere good.|I had the roast lamb and a pub loaf. The meal was more than I could eat.|There is parking out the back and avoid staple for our Friday night.

This is my most favourite restaurant ever.
The foods are just amazing, as they said "you will never hungry at Dr.syntax" the portion are huge. The steak are just perfect. The drinks option are great too, I love the cider on tap.
I suggests you to book first so you can get the table inside.

This has to be the best pub dining in Hobart. A 5 Star Menu served by an efficient, friendly, and professional staff team. There is a front bar, dining room and relaxed outdoor seating with access to sports viewing on the large screen. The hotel also offers large group catering. The best Chef and cook team in Hobart. Consistently good food, well presented. Great sports bar and outdoor area with heating.

The staff here are so welcoming as well as helpful. I had a day tour in Hobart and needed their help, they went far and beyond what I have ever experienced in a hotel. Beautiful hotel with so much charm.
I highly recommend and will always book when ever I visit.

The room was quite nice both in space and quality, especially for the price we paid. Bed was very comfortable. The staff we spoke to were quite nice and helpful. That said rooms are just atop the Doctor Syntax sport bar, which is nice, but when you need to sleep is not a great selling point. The music could be heard heard easily until around midnight.

The rather bland exterior of the hotel hides a pleasant enough interior. Despite being situated on a busy road, our room was totally free of traffic noise. The bathroom looked to have been recently renovated. The room was a little small with built in shelf space, but no cupboards and only floor space to put suitcases on. The bathroom window lock didn't work, but being on the second floor, we didn't feel at risk. Tea, coffee, jug, iron, ironing board, fridge, plenty of power points, air conditioning and comfortable beds were all positives. Security is excellent. You need to swipe your keycard at the main entrance and floor entrance before accessing your room (again with the keycard). The hotel also has a fairly large car park at the rear of the building. Staff were polite and helpful. The hotel is only about a 15-20 walk away from the Salamanca Square/Franklin Wharf area. It also houses a very good and popular restaurant (see Hobart Restaurants, Doctor Syntax). Also, being a hotel, it costs a lot less to stay here than in one of the big-name motels around town. I'd happily stay here again.

The perfect end to our Tassie holiday. Went to the hotel for dinner and loved every bit. Everything 5 hungry travellers could hope for after a long drive from the top of Tasmania. Staff very friendly as well. Loved it!

The old girl isn’t much to look at but great menu, service and view. The locals are chatty and the atmosphere is very chill. We sat in the beer garden (which is dog friendly), overlooking kunanyi and had a delicious meal of beef cheeks and deconstructed lamb souvlaki, washed down with a bottle of acceptable red. Will definitely be back and will try the chowder next time. Chef; keep doing what you’re doing. You’re awesome.

The meals from the restaurant were only pub quality with restaurant prices. The chef argued that he cooked the steak as was ordered and would not accept that it was overcooked. The parmy was burnt and inedible. Should have realised as tthre were no other customers.

The best meal I've had in a long time steak cooked medium come out pink with no blood pool great chips and salad herb bread and pepper sauce wow! Ice cold beer. Great for a family or out with friends, won't be the last they see of me that's for sure.

super rude staff. Made us rush even when we pre booked and let them know what was happening. Made everyone feel SUPER uncomfortable with the rude attitude and like we weren’t wanted even though it was a large group who all wanted food and drink so a big chunk of money. Would not recommend if you want good food and service, many better places to go in Hobart!

Stayed here with my partner for 2 days. All was good at first; we were greeted by the owner who was very welcoming and he even upgraded our room for us. The room was small but it was decent and clean. Until the second day, the shower heater did not work and we did not have hot water to shower. We sound off the problem to one of the managers at around 8. However, no solution was given to us until about 12 and we were not even updated throughout. Problem persisted till the next day and so we just checked out. Totally ruined our holiday.

Stayed a night here, lovely large clean room. Spotless bathroom. Fully equipped, with tea and coffee and milk. Mattress needs an upgrade, room was very noisy from traffic, room was very light even with blinds down. Otherwise would give 5 stars for meals, location and cleanliness. Great atmosphere with plenty of TV's in eating areas to watch sport, and heaters were turned on to warm up outside areas. Staff super friendly.

Spent the day in the sports bar, the staff are fabulous, know all the patrons and very welcoming to us. Food was sooo good. I cannot fault this pub, clean, friendly and awesome staff . Very happy with our visit

Pleasantly surprised!
We’re staying up the road and just wanted to grab a drink on our walk.
Looks like an old dive bar from the road but we were so happy we popped in. Ending up staying for dinner and YUM!
Customer service was great, lovely accommodating and informative staff. Food was delicious. Drinks were reasonably priced.
Definitely a happy accidental find on our holiday!

Our lunch was excellent pork belly and seafood marina. Lovely fresh salad and vegetables. Great chips as a side. Meals beautifully presented and as we watched meals pass by, all were of top quality in presentation. Add in really efficient service and an eextensived drinks list. We'll be back.

On a working trip from Melbourne and was keen for dinner so I googled for eats and Dr Syntax Hotel came up and my experience was so good I felt compelled to leave a review. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming and my steak was fantastic. The Sticky date was a special treat and home made in the kitchen. Good menu, cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Omg. So.much better than expected. First impression is your regular old pub. Looked at the menu and thought prices were more expensive than your average pub meal. Service was friendly and efficient and meal was exceptional. Not a romantic place for dinner but amazing food. Will be back for sure!

Not far from many tourist locations, and plenty of nearby options for dinner - including the restaurant at the hotel itself which was pretty good! Bed was very comfortable and king size. No breakfast at hotel, but good cafes within walking distance.

Nadat ik mijn huurauto heb geparkeerd op de gratis parkeerplaats voor hotel- en gewone bezoekers, loop ik binnen in de Ierse pub, waar Tom achter de bar staat. Hij heeft er zin in, maakt wat grappen, stelt zich dan netjes voor en checkt me in. "You're in the big room!" zegt hij met een brede glimlach en hij geeft me de sleutel van kamer 1. De toegang tot de bovenverdieping -waar de kamers zich bevinden- is apart van de kroeg en het restaurant, maar alles bevindt zich in hetzelfde gebouw. ||||Kamer 1 is inderdaad ruim. Het ligt aan de voorzijde van het gebouw, met uitzicht op het tegenovergelegen Shell pompstation en de drukke, doorgaande weg. Er zijn twee ramen die geopend kunnen worden en ook op de moderne badkamer is er een raam. Dat zorgt voor het nodige geluid van de weg, maar met de ramen gesloten heb je daar weinig last van. ||||Dan was er nog de verrassing op de eerste ochtend, waarbij de schoonmaker me vertelde dat ik in de verkeerde kamer was geplaatst. Of ik zo vriendelijk wilde zijn te verhuizen naar kamer 5, want kamer 1 was vanmiddag voor een stel geboekt. Zonder verdere problemen heb ik dat gedaan. Even later kwam ik Tom tegen, die met zijn typisch Ierse humor toch best wel zijn excuses aanbood voor de fout die hij had gemaakt. "I owe you a beer!" Da's prima, voor mij was het geen groot probleem. Hooguit wat onhandig. ||||Het hotel ligt net buiten het stadscentrum, waar je naartoe kunt wandelen of eventueel de bus naartoe kunt nemen. Een bushalte ligt op loopafstand. De buurt Sandy Bay waar het hotel ligt, heeft ook zijn eigen voorzieningen, met restaurants, supermarkt, benzinepomp en postkantoor. ||||Het hotel ligt dus op de bovenverdieping van een sportbar annex bistrorestaurant. In kamer 1 heb je daar in het geheel geen last van, in kamer 5 (welke aan de zijkant van het gebouw ligt) wat meer. Dat had ook te maken met vrijdagavond livemuziek, maar na middernacht heb je daar vrijwel geen last meer van. ||||De kamers zijn schoon en modern. De bedden liggen goed. De gratis wifi heeft zijn goede momenten, maar er zijn ook momenten dat er helemaal geen ontvangst is. Het volgende moment is er dan weer niks aan de hand.||||Er vanuit gaande dat de kamerverwisseling niet opzettelijk is geweest en dat niet vaker gebeurt, kun je hier heel goed verblijven.

My goodness, delicious food that was more than expected. The pork belly was crunchy succulent and moreish. The parmy was fantastic! Service was friendly prompt and excellent all rolled into one. Definitely worth a visit more than once!

My friend and I enjoyed an impromptu lunch at Dr Syntax and we were amazed by the attention we received on arrival. The restaurant was booked out and we were attended to by who we presumed was the manager who arranged a quiet table in the main bar. We were somewhat apprehensive but the bar was not busy and the table we had was bathed in sunshine so it was comfortable.||Our meals were quickly served after ordering and I was amazed at the presentation of the meals. My meal of slow cooked beef cheeks was almost a work of art, delightfully arranged on a rectangular plate. The taste and flavour were succulent. My friend had a curry which was relatively mild and very tasty.||I cannot speak too highly of the service and the meals, a five star restaurant could not have been better. Very impressive and highly recommended.

My 90 year old mum had the seafood chowder. I tasted it towards the end of her meal as she doesn't eat mussels but I do.I had a mouthful and it had an overwhelmingly burnt taste. She didn't detect this because her taste buds are not great .
8 hours later she was throwing up for 6 hours. Health department inspected the premises and said her symptoms are consistent with foodborne illness.
Management were very good to deal with and agreed to discard the remaining soup they had prepped.
Overall a total let down.

Most of us ordered steaks, I ordered mine medium, My steak was thoroughly underdone. Some peoples gravy was burnt. When issues were brought up they did offer to fix it as they laughed and rolled their eyes. Multiple loyal patrons that will not be returning.

I would advise again staying in room 9, it is the smallest room I have ever stayed in my life, you couldn't swing a cat. It was clean and the hotel is is a great location.

I was meeting friends for lunch at the dr Syntax today.As I parked a woman, who I guess works there as she had keys and entered the building, told me off for using the car park. I Have eaten here a few times and liked it but that has made me not want to return. Guess I’ll try somewhere else for lunch today.

I've come to Doctor Syntax several times over the last 5 years. It has gone through varying levels of quality during that time but the meal I had with my family the other night was excellent. Service was great, as was the atmosphere. I would say it is very overpriced through. $26 for a coconut and chickpea curry seems absurd. Would recommend if you're willing to pay.

I've been to Doctor Syntax several times now. I'm always impressed by their exceptional friendly customer service and great offering of pub food both in the restaurant area and bar area.
Their trivia night is really fun after a meal too.

Its pub food but it is good/well cooked pub food. It is currently our go-to place in Hobart for steak and frys! (Steak cooked perfectly). My wife and I normally share a squid dish to start which is very tasty, but with 300g steaks you don't exactly go home hungry! :-)
I also have to compliment them on their friendly staff and good service.
They have a substantial car park around the back (which we discovered on our third visit) so there is no need to find on street parking.

It may seem shabby on the outside, but that makes the modern, clean, comfortable hotel rooms even more of a welcome surprise. My room had two double beds (which were a little small for me), coffee and tea, ironing board, spare set of towels, and toiletries. The bathroom featured a luxurious modern rainfall shower. Although the hotel was fully booked, the noise from other rooms was minimal.
You might describe this as 'basic' accommodation but actually it was perfect - nothing could have been better - except maybe a longer bed.

I stayed here with my husband for about 10 days right after we relocated to Hobart. First few days were good (Ben and Beck were managing then). Then the management changed, as did our experience. Linens and towels were not changed even once in 5 days, they were just redone/folded and put back (even if they had visible stains on them). Trash would sometimes be taken out, and sometimes the bin would sit there full. To top it all, my beautiful pair of shoes were stolen one day while we were out for an hour! The room was "cleaned" while we were gone. When we reported this to the new management, they said they would look into it. Checked back again twice, and they said they hadn't "heard anything" about the shoes. We suggested them to check the security cameras, and the guy said "we are not sure if those are working, but we'll check and get back to you." I couldn't believe my ears! Isn't it mandated by law to have working security cameras in a hotel?
I am writing this review two weeks later, I have checked with them a few times already, and they just refuse to do anything about it at all. May be because to them it is just a pair of shoes. To me it is not just loss of my new 100$ shoes, it is also a breach of trust. When one stays in a hotel, there is an unspoken contract of safety and trust. I expect safety for myself and my belongings. Not only did this hotel fail to keep that contract intact, their nonchalant attitude was in complete bad taste. I will definitely not recommend this place to anyone!

I stayed here for 9 days in early March.
Overall, my experience staying here was very positive. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the check-in process was easy. To check in, head to the front section on Sandy Bay Road. There's a bar and bistro, although I did not try the food.
There's plenty of parking out the back if you hire a car. Close to public transport. A short walk from Wrest Point, Battery Point, Salamanca Place, Constitution Dock/Franklin Wharf area, and Hobart City. There's a petrol station next door if you need fuel, supplies or an ATM.
The rooms are on the small side, but it was big enough for myself. Beds were comfy. They give you copious amounts of tea and coffee (thank you). The air-conditioning kept me warm. There's an ironing board and an iron. The bathroom was great and the water pressure was good. They give you shampoo, conditioner, soap etc.
The rates were very good compared to other places around the city.
As this also has a pub attached, be aware that there can be some noise, but it generally dies down after 10:00 pm.
I was quite surprised in the Wi-Fi. I had no drop-outs every, single night I needed to complete some work!
I would recommend staying here if you want a cheap, clean and convenient place to stay.

I had the seafood chowder that was curry based and thin like a consomme' It was nice but not what I was expecting. For the price it could have been a larger serving. Staff service was excellent though and the family had a great night out. Will go again.

I had a pizza in the restaurant. Very friendly waitress. Tasty pizza. Maybe a bit small but it was only 17 bucks for a restaurant meal is pretty cheap(ish) Loads of parking at the rear. Loved it I'll be back for more my next visit in Hobart

If you dont come here then you are missing out on one of the best pubs in Hobart area. Situated in Sandy Bay with ample parking at rear its a great place for a generous sized meal and the staff are bloody brilliant. We had 3 nights here for dinner and would loved more. Crumbed Tassie scallops are a bargain.

I first learnt about this location from one of my disability participants and have eaten there now a few times, and nothing wrong to say. My first meal was saddle lamb broccolini and new potatoes, which was very nice. My next one recently I tried the picture lamb souvlaki 😊

Hotel Review.
Room was clean, outfitted with modern idea type furniture.
Could be a little loud depending on the bar and not the comfiest bed/cushions.
Receptionist was friendly.
Only a short walk directly into Salamanca, or a slightly longer walk going through battery point.
Plenty of on site parking and not far from Sandy bay for groceries/pick of many Asian restaurants.
Would recommend for a central no frills clean option.

Had dinner there with friends before concert at Wrest Point. Great place, reasonable prices and good food. The prawns in my linguine were a tad overcooked, and the cream sauce was a cheese overload... I'll just choose better next time, because hubby's parmigiana and friends' trevalla and pork ribs (respectively) were delicious. Nice ambience and pleasant surprise not to be ripped off because it's Sandy Bay.

Had a delicious lunch there with friends. Table service for both food and drinks; great menu; great food. Air conditioned inside but on warm days an undercover outside eating area which is very pleasant. Can get very [popular so book ahead if possible. A large carpark ensures easy parking - access from both Sandy Bay Rd and a narrow access from Queen St.

Great location. Comfortable rooms, en- suite in all rooms. Great bar staff downstairs. 15 minute walk to Salamanca markets. Food is fantastic. This place is biker friendly, big car park at the back. I'd recommend this place, and I'd come back again.

Great location, a 10 min walk from salamanca market. Room was above the bar and the hotels on a main road, but noise wasn't an issue. Small room, but clean and modern with a great shower. The bar downstairs offers a good range of food. Very friendly staff, happy to help with any queries.

Food was decent. Service was terrible as the lady who served us was rude. First when my father ordered a medium well done steak she smirked and grunted. Fair enough, you might not like well done steak and a lot of people don't but you're not the one eating eat, so keep your opinions to yourself. Second, she had a nasty attitude and when I asked if everything was ok she replied with "Yes, but you're booking was at 5:30pm and we have another large group to attend". Ok, fair enough, we arrived at 5:40pm and all of us didn't finish ordering a little past 6pm but that doesn't excuse the attitude.
First time here due to a recommendation and this will definitely be the last. Disappointed as we came here with a positive attitude and we left feeling as if our business wasn't wanted and felt uncomfortable and unwelcomed.

Food is always good. Waitress was rude and snappy. Said she would have problems seating 6 people, place was empty. Once we got our food we asked if we had to hurry due bookings (we assumed due to the comment about difficulty seating us) she said she had no bookings until 4 and it was 1pm at the time???

Fantastic food. Nice enough service. The restaurant felt a bit grimy and in need of TLC. It was also ridiculously hot inside. Our table asked for the air-conditioning to be turned on, apparently it was. Outdoor area looked nice, others must have thought so to as it was full.

Excellent food!! Ate there 2 nights in a row and would have gone a third, but discovered it too late. Had the roast lamb first night - huge serve and delicious! Second night had the seafood moray - rich and too die for! Best pub food I’ve had in a longtime - large and extensive menu, which is unusual these days. Will definitely be back for more when back in Hobart!

My only regret is that we didn't visit more often on our recent visit to Tassie. Nice clean bar,beer garden, tab and keno. Close to wrest point. Thanks guys.

Dinner with friends, Monday 18th March. The restaurant is always very busy and has a great menu. The service and staff were excellent. Two male friends choose the pork belly, one was a large serve and one was smaller (think the two cuts of meat should have been the same size, on the one table). My friend and I choose the 'Seafood Mornay' dish. The seafood mornay looked like seafood chowder, but with the large amount of cheese in it, so was more like a seafood fondue. Maybe someone in the kitchen mixed up the chowder and the mornay. The seafood was nice and the side salad was good. Needed a spoon to eat the 'chowder/mornay' sauce. |Next time we will have roast of the day.

Dining room was very warm, with a very warm day out side no aircon. Food was excellent, especially there steaks, well presented and service was a bit of a wait, 30 minutes. But it was packed with people as well. $13 for a craft beer.

Came here last weekend with a group of friends. 5-6 steaks were over cooked. Other friends didn’t finish their meal because it didn’t taste nice. We have been coming to this place for years. But they have really dropped the ball and the food is shocking. It’s very sad that the best food they do is their onion rings. Plus also the bigger man in the bar had bad sweat all over his face. Which doesn’t really make sense because he moved and made drinks at snail pace. don’t waste your time or money. Becuase we won’t ever be back.

Ben and Bec are legends! This is one of the oldest running hotels in Sandy bay, the previous owner went bankrupt and Ben came into to save the Hotel and keep it running. It’s still alive and kicking only difference is the service is incredible, beer selection better and food is finally of a caliber you’d expect when it comes to a classic pub like this. Keep up the good work guys! I’ll be back for a nice crispy larger soon!

An unexpected surprise here, we had a great counter meal and we had actually gone to get a burger but the place was closed, as we were walking back up the street we smelt the food here and walked in...My love had the Beef cheeks and I had a rump and salad...Hands down the best steak I have had in a long time ..Beef cheeks fell apart and the rhubarb sauce was spectacular... definitely stop in for a feed...book ahead as we actually got the last table and people missed out who came in after us... excellent surprise

Amazing quality food. Service was excellent, straight off the bat. Didn't have to wait. Couldn't fault our entrees or meals. Will be back for sure!

All the staff were extremely helpful and professional recently as we celebrated my mother's 90th birthday..the food was of a high quality and everyone complimented the food and the service

After eating the worst pub meal ever the week before at a popular Irish pub in Harrington St Hobart, how refreshing it was to eat the best pub meal ever on Friday night. Absoultely stunning meals at the Dr Syntax. Great staff as opposed to other mob. Very professuinal and very very friendly. #rd meal in 6 weeks there and the same wevery time. Dont get rid of the chef or wait staff. Thanks and see you again soon.

Accomodation - Modern rooms, clean, quiet, friendly staff and 15 minute walk to the Salamanca markets. Would definitely stay here again. Great for the price also!

Absolutely LOVE Dr.Syntax!!!!! ☺️
My partner,2 young children and I started dining here around 3 years ago and in our children's winter soccer season, often stop in here for lunch after a game, it has and always is the best service, staff are absolutely beautiful people and the meals are always delicious!!
They never have an issue with fitting us in for a late booking and are always smiling, happy and friendly.

A beautiful variety of food, made with the utmost love and care.
The parmigiana I had was made very well, moist and huge, worth the $28.
For a tea drinker, they made beautiful coffees, they’ll win you over with their mochas.
Highly recommend Doctor Syntax if you’re ever out in the town in Sandy Bay!

4 meals, all above what was expected, prices on par with what you would expect, service was more than excellent, I would recommend every day if the week.. was hoping for a pub meal but got much more, high end for a discounted price. Will recommend and will return for sure

31st of august 2020, in company of other doctors, we came to the restaurant in Dr Syntax Hotel. Being allergic to MSG I asked lady at the bar counter if they put this substance in cooking. She said : "definitely NO". In the evening I was very sick- all symptoms of MSG poisoning. I suspect -ribs, which my husband and I ordered.
We took rest of ribs (we could not finish), and gave them to our son in law, who was sick after eating them, and my husband was sick in the late evening as well!
