East Cessnock Bowling Club

What a top place this is. Foods so tasty. Staffs very friendly and helpful.Has a TAB there also for the punters. Children are welcome. Just keep in mind about the over 18 around Bar area. For the bowlers there is under cover bowls. Very nice bowls club indeed.

Well, I have eaten here 4 times now in the last 6 months and honestly the Chinese food is an insult, I suggest they contact Kee Ho for some hints, on 2 of those occasions I tried non Chinese items both were bland and dissapointing, I returned for the 5th time last night by the request of my wife who insisted we take some friends there, none of us emptied our plates, and the fried rice was dry and tasted charred somehow. Poor quality even for a club, I have given them more than ample opportunities to keep me as a diner but no more.

We came here to check out the space for a meal but came on a Monday so missed out on dinner but that is ok. We had a drink and the staff were very friendly. The venue is massive with plenty of spaces including indoor bowling greens, auditorium, gaming room, sports watching space, sports bar and general bar. We cannot wait to come back to see the space full of people enjoying themselves either having a game of bowls or dining.

Unfortunately we have a child that has allergies we had bought him a Macca's $7 meal while at least 6 adults would have eaten and drank but unfortunately he was not aloud to bring the meal in. I think some places need to reconsider kids with allergies and letting them bring a small meal into the premises. We left and won't be back.

The food is pathetic. Gone there on the odd occasion for family birthdays for a meal over the last 5 yrs or so and each time including only 3 days ago have been appalled by the quality of the food. Having been disgusted with previous meals of Chinese food I decided to try something else so I ordered Rissoles and vegetables with gravy. The rissoles were simply bland flat hamburger patties that tasted like they'd been cooked on a hotplate that had just been used to cook fish. The gravy was like jelly it was almost clear, I'd called it aspic, but aspic at least has a savoury taste, it was more like an attempt to make 20 litres of glue with one stock cube. It dripped off a spoon in glugs it wasn't liquid at all. I took one bite and spat it out straight away. I would've said something but had already promised members of our party not to say anything about the food as my thoughts on the restaurant was already known, that's why I tried something not on the Chinese menu thinking that it might be different. Only one person in our party finished their plate and even they said it was very ordinary. The chicken schnitzel ordered by our group was dry and tough, and the Chinese dishes ordered were bland and the rice simply pathetic and insulting. A lot of Chinese dished share similar vegetables and meat it's the complex sauces that make it a sweet and sour, chow mein or black bean sauce etc. This is where they fail big time for example their black bean sauce is bland gravy with a spoonful of tinned black beans tossed in. Whereas true black bean sauce is made up to 6 months in advance and them allowed to ferment bringing out a rich dark smokey flavour. Fair enough it's probably not viable for a small restaurant to make there own and sit on it for months but you can buy it ready to go, it is not just gravy with a few beans added. All their sauces are ordinary, and it's been that way for years. ( My experience with all the local 2325 Chinese restaurants is the same they are either forgoing making their own sauces to save time or purchasing quality sauces to save a dollar, or my other theory is that somewhere along the the line grandma or granddad watered down the rich authentic Chinese flavours to suit the bland tastes of 1970's Australia and 50 years later their children and grandchildren who've taken over the restaurant business have forgotten what the real deal is supposed to taste like. It's like they need to take a holiday to China and chase up great grandma's original recipe book. I've even had disappointed black bean sauce in both Chinatown in both Sydney and Melbourne. Haven't had a decent restaurant purchased black bean sauce since 1991.) On the way to the bar I walked around through all the diners and only the odd person here and there had actually eaten their meal with most dishes being left uneaten after only a few bites. Yet there a plenty of positive reviews. Is there several different chefs causing varying quality? Or are people simply too polite? Have I been unlucky enough to always randomly try a meal when the real chef is away and got the substitute chef? Whatever the reason I find the meals here absolutely disgusting and further more I find it insulting that it has been this way for at least 5 yrs. They're lucky no one else in town can make a nice black bean dish properly or I'd be taking a dish of the real deal in just to make a scene. A 1 star rating is still more than the current and past performance of this restaurant deserves.

Thé club in general was great, well air conditioned, good layout and nice staff. However the restaurant respectfully, was terrible. The food was bland and lacked flavour. Would come again, but definitely not eating more food.

the bowlo seemed great , kitchen staff were lovely... shame about the out of sorts woman presenting to be mutten dressed as lamb... not sure if she missed that day at boxing but after the arm gesture's i assume she had to get some air or run it off.. all in all seemed nice want to get in and have a game of bowels next time..

The best place to watch #SuplexProfessionalWrestling do their thing... Awesome, friendly staff. Very clean and spacious.

The Beer was Cold, Wet & Delicious. The Chilli & Garlic Prawns with Super Fried Rice was AMAZING, while My Wife said the Plain Omelette with extra gravy was "the best Omelette I have ever had in My entire life!" & believe Me, She tries the Chinese Omelette everywhere We go in OZ. The staff throughout the club, were fabulously friendly & nothing was a problem for them.

Ruined my cousins 21st birthday. 30 people and a booked function room and you closed the kitchen at 8pm so no one could order food despite telling you that they WILL be ordering dinner. We will be filing a formal complaint. Absolutely disgusting I hope you’re happy with yourselves.

Not from the area but attended an 18th birthday and had a great time. It was clean and the staff were great. The food was great and wasn't expensive, very well priced actually.

Nice venue, love the kids park, but the food was reheated and wasn’t that nice. 90% of the menu was Chinese food

Nice club, it has great conference/ private rooms available. A indoor bowling green as well as large Bingo area huge gaming and good fresh food and clean fresh Beer from the taps. I highly recommend it. Oh and its prices are average but definitely not over the top.

Love coming here and chilling out with my partner catching up with friends and even workers from this place. The ecbc is connect to a beautiful tasting Chinese restaurant. 10/10 would recommend. Child friendly even a designated bus to take you home . Come check it out say hello to the fabulous entertaining staff... Friday and Saturday the ecbc usually does a free LIVE ENTERTAINMENT BAND. 🥰

Kind on an average kitchen and food was nothing special The interior is just ok and really need a proper renovation. Staff on the floor were nice and friendly. Not many options in the area so the locals are enjoying themselves even with the ordinary meals. Lots of parking spots available.

I want to give a higher rating as the staff are so nice here, but I have been twice now and the food is just not enjoyable, I always get flat tonic water and there is no atmosphere. Both times it was busy though so obviously people do enjoy it here.

Hubby and I went there for tea lastnight, I got the chicken burger and chips, I took a couple of bites , & than had to rush to the loo twice, due to food being stick in my throat ( I have a slow esophagus), they were worried about me , they asked hubby if I was alright , when I came out the 2nd time there was a glass of water on the table for me The food is great the staff are very helpful and can't do enough for me I would just like to say a huge thank you to the staff members who were working lastnight at the bistro

Have been there several times for various reasons from playing weekday bingo, Drag Bingo and catch up lunches with friends, this club is welcoming and has both a reasonably priced bistro and snack bar.

Had a great meal here with my wife recently. I had the beef burger (good old aussie burger) and my wife beef with blackbean and we thoroughly enjoyed both, spring rolls and dim sims were also pretty yummy. our only setback was that we needed to buy rice with the meal and although is not that uncommon paying $6.50 for a small rice seemed steep, if not for that it would have been 5 stars. P.S. beers were cold and cheap.

Exactly what you expect from a Chinese in a club. Tasty food, filling but not exactly Michelin star. Shrinkflation has certainly been noticed at Sahara Mei Bistro. All portions have reduced but prices haven’t and the price for a small rice needs reevaluating. Staff are always friendly, food is hot and the drinks are cheap. Since it’s been renovated, It’s a great place for locals and tourist alike to drop into.

Chinese food is a 🚫! Omelette was small and not scrambled properly 🍳 Honey chicken wasn't crunchy 🍯🍗 Singapore noodles were 😕

Beers are cheap And enjoyed the bowls. But the food is really average especially for the price. Not one person out of 12 of us had anything nice to say about it.

A night out to watch some live music. The club had organised a dome outside on the green for the night of dancing and music. I would have provided some stand alone heaters as options for people as it can get quite cold in that area. The restaurant within the club had an asian menu with a couple of Aussie food choices as well. Given how busy the club was this night because of the event the food was quick and delicious. Overall it was a great venue for the event and thoroughly enjoyed seeing The Viper Creek Band and All Access 80's
