Whenever I come home to Adelaide, I make a bee line for The Exeter to remind me of just how timeless experiences can be. The floorboards, panelling & wood fridges should be heritage listed. It can be a band venue, a pub meal that changes to the chef's discretion, or a bar stool perch like which I'm on now, in my own space, but open to random banter. My favourite Adelaide pub by a mile.

Very good vibe and spacious pub hotel. The portions are huge but the taste is average.

This is what a schnitzel should be, fresh, thick and tasty. Not even remotely dry, sauce flavourful, salad perfectly fresh and chips perfectly salted and crispy.
NSW/Sydney could learn a thing or two of what makes a great schnitzel. Always the go to meal when coming home to SA.
Great bet selection, staff friendly and options of outdoor and indoor seating depending on the weather and how you’re feeling. A++ spot.

This is real SA culture. This is an institute that has grub and a lot of seating.
This venue can’t be sold over a review. You just have to see it.
Its more reliable then your ex and chances are it will be there for you with more pleasurable qualities.

The Reuben was so good, it was criminal. Really friendly service, lots of outdoor seating. Just a damn good pub.

Staff are the nicest I have met anywhere in Adelaide. Here on holiday from Melbourne. The food and the service were both excellent. I would absolutely recommend this hotel for a meal, and relaxing drink.

Schnitzel was well cooked and crunchy. The nachos are vegetarian and comes in a vegan version. There was not much sauce on the nachos and the beans were all at the bottom. Outside area nice a warm with big heaters even in winter.

One of my favourite pubs in Adelaide. Best schnitty in town (weekdays). Wine list that defies its surroundings and represents value that others simply do not. Regular haunt

Love this pub...it's still a proper pub, with character and its own unique style. So unique. If you're showy, focused on looking good or trying to show you're having good time this isn't the pub for you...if you're genuine, quirky, come from all walks of life, eclectic and accepting of others then this could be your pub. Food is great and staff are fun... the whole place is just special.

look. I’m so in favour of this place already. best pub in Adelaide CBD. old school. honest. not trying to be anything but a great pub. serving ice cold beers. indoor and outdoor seating. and that classic courtyard that we know we all love. had the beef schnitzel with mushroom sauce. not GF. but I’ll sweat the outcomes tomorrow. (worth it!!). have to go here every time I’m in Adelaide. don’t ever change Exeter Hotel. please don’t.

It's the Exeter,you know what you're going to get, cold beer live music in a historical Rundle St pub. Toilets always were and probably will stay sub standard,but that's not why you go.

It's 11.11 on the 25.11.2023 and I am here for a workmate who used to come here heaps back in the 90s when grunge was grunge. There's not many people here however that's to be expected. Lotta rooms and snugs. Has a good, honest smell that a pub should. There's fireplaces, unsure if they're now only ornamental (they have wood in them, I like to think so). Bar man is ace. Deepest, calmest voice on a human being I have ever heard, reminds me of that singer, Avi Kaplan. This is a real city pub and I like it.

Institution: It's great to sit outside and have a pint. This pub was a local/favourite of mine in my younger days. One of Adelaide's best pubs

I love that it hasn't changed since I started going there in the 90s! I would love to have some more interesting beers available, though.

If you find yourself in Adelaide craving the epitome of wing perfection, look no further than this venue. Their wing night is an absolute triumph, though I do recommend placing your order well in advance to avoid any unforeseen disappointments.
While the quality of their other menu items may fluctuate on different evenings, one cannot deny the certainty of a flawless wing night experience. It is a culinary oasis amidst variability.
The pub itself is a delightful local haunt, boasting a commendable array of Australian beers. When the winter chill descends and the fire crackles merrily, it transforms into a sanctuary for meaningful conversations and cozy camaraderie.

Been ages since I've been in, but the burger was great!

Great atmosphere, music; staff are a bit too arrogant... Update: there will always be arrogant and entitled staff, and unfortunately most of them are the young, inexperienced ones. (Coming from someone who runs a restaurant). Last couple of visits have been fantastic, back to the Exeter of old

For me this place is full of great memories of playing pool and having so much fun in my late teens to early 20s now 20 years on it's still as iconic and a big part of hurt street great place to have a cold one and talk with old friends love that it is still going strong!

Beers cold as. There is a toastie machine here. Is there Cooper’s pale ale on tap? Yes. Is there an ATM inside??? Yes. Beer garden you say? Yep….outdoor area to be a cigi but brain?……yea mate. Old guy in the corner (there’s always one here) where he’s on his 8-9th mid.

Bargain, loved every minute.
The staff are super friendly and make you feel at home.
Cant wait to visit again.
Close to everything, including the beach and shops
Porkies open 8am including the bar :)
Accommodation has everything including a renovated bathroom, complimentary drinks , bottle water, soft drink cans.
Honestly it was more luxurious then some apartments in the city. If you a travelling solo for business, I definitely recommend.

Atmosphere and overall environment was lovely and enjoyable to be around, however my friends and I were abused and kicked out by a bartender in a matter of seconds under false pretenses. Sincerely hope if I go once more I do not meet the man responsible again.

A great old school pub with friendly staff, decent wine list and I'll be back to eat the mushroom gnocchi next time it's on the menu. Either way they have excellent hot chips!

Consistent, down to earth, comfortable.
Awesome staff, delicious food.
Get the beef burger with mushroom sauce.
