About Federal Hotel
Down-to-earth hotel offering a schnitzel restaurant, free Wi-Fi & a kids' play area. This unassuming hotel is 1 km from Mount Gambier railway station and 2 km from Blue Lake, a volcanic crater lake. The straightforward rooms have en suite or shared bathrooms, and come with TVs, minifridges, and tea and coffeemaking facilities, plus free Wi-Fi. Some include sofas. Wow! Do not leave this area without getting a meal here. The place was packed, like so healthily and happy busy. Don’t let that deter you though. The atmosphere was amazing, the noise was perfect and not to much, the children had a little playground area, the meals are absolutely sensational and all of the staff, from the bar to the chefs to the waiting staff never slipped with anything. The staff constantly made you feel nothing was to hard, noting was to much to ask and never stopped smiling and working. The amount of meals that came out of that kitchen to the tables was phenomenal, yet all piping hot, cooked to perfection and tasted beyond words. Actually sad this place isn’t in the part of Adelaide 363kms from here that we are from!
Thank you so much from our family to yours for the wonderful service and I hope we can get back here one day to enjoy it again

We used to be frequent customers of the restaurant part. Sadly terrible customer service including being misled and accused of lying by a manager has meant I will not go into this place anymore. It's a shame but the female worker was as bad as the manager. Poor way to treat family of 5 who were regulars. Head office did apologise but not enough to tempt me back - better places to go with better service

We stopped for lunch at the Federal Hotel on the way to Adelaide. The food and service was exceptional. I recommend the Federal chicken it was amazing.

We stayed 3 nights in February the staff were excellent the room overall was very spacious and clean the bathroom was very nicely renovated the only downside was the lack of space to put clothes but there is the room to put in a wardrobe or drawers. The food was good and well priced.

Went to the restaurant for a birthday lunch. Considering this is known as the schnitzel house, it was the smallest and most over cooked schnitzel. The solution was to give me a steak knife for my burnt snit. Unfortunately can't say I'll be returning.

We got a 3-day, 2-night accommodation deal. |We got a free drinks voucher on arrival. |The staff is really good. The rooms are clean and there's no safe in the room. Also, remember to bring your toothbrush and paste. |Also, keep in mind that this place is a good spot to stay, it has a lot of parking space, shared with Dan Murphy. Our room even had a balcony.

The atmosphere here at night no matter how many people there are is amazing. Angie and Bridget are amazing workers that are easygoing and are absolutely incredible to talk to and very good to talk to like a mate. Service is brilliant

Stayed one night here and the room cost more than advertised which the staff couldn't explain however the room was fine and we were given two drink vouchers which the bar staff refused to accept so we couldn't use them and to top it off we were eating in the bistro but after ordering a beer in the bistro I was told to order and pay in the bar only to watch the bar staff take the glass into the bistro tap to get beer then return to the bar to give me the beer so I could return to bistro to drink the beer which not only we thought was madness but was also amusing to other bistro customers so all in all many thought it to be a silly way to operate however apart from the silliness the venue presented clean and tidy so I won't judge it on just one moment of poor service

Service was great in the bistro. However my garlic prawns were far from fresh. One of which was black on the inside. After spitting that out from gaging my wife took the meal up to the bar and the gentleman was very polite and replaced my meal with the chicken which was nice. This left me feeling better about the bad meal. After I finish my meal I walked out to the smoking area to have a vape. I was then approached by a lady from the staff who accused me of smoke Marijuana. This offended me and left an extremely bad taste in my mouth from the entire experience.

Ordered a drink via the app, once it was served to the table I was then asked to provide ID. Staff member Angie was very rude and abrupt when I couldn’t find it.
Would suggest next time they ask for ID before making an alcoholic beverage.

Just spent a night at Night Night Cap in the heart of Mount Gambier. Christine and Sean were very nice and welcoming. The cosy atmosphere made for a delightful stay. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing and comfortable night!

Had to give 1 star coz I couldn’t give 0 stars I actually liked this pub but the worker Angie is rude an a thief my mate was asked for ID 2 times an was asked a 3rd time I even told worker to ask co workers already been shown 2 times then Angie being rude stole my mates unopened can saying he can’t have it an said he refused ID Angie needs to be respectful to everyone coz I know other people complaining about here now since then not looking good for federal future

Had no idea what I felt like to eat. Hailee suggested the fried rice. When asked if it was any good - she said it is the business! And it was! Thank you Hailee. Happy belly happy customer. Great service

Had lunch today with my partner. To start with my partner ordered beef schnitzel with gravy on side, beef was over cooked and gravy poured all over to attempt to cover up this mistake. Then my cheese burger was more sauce then anything and cold. Returned burger got a second one the meat was so hard I broke my tooth. The burger had double the amount of sauce then the first one that when I tryed picking it up it covered my hands the plate and was going everywhere. Really can not believe how bad this was. Seriously my 4 year old can do better then this. The manager did not once come over and apologise even tho was in eye shout and waitress speaking to him more then once.

Had a great waitress named: Sharnee. Answered all questions, helped with menu, handled an issue wherein the kitchen staff stated that they were out of the steak that I was ordering & then had one left. Great customer service!

Great spot. The pub itself has some solid food, the cob loaf is elite. Friendly staff and nice cocktails, the kryptonite is deadly

Great choice for an overnight stay. Comfortable and clean. It looked like the room and bathroom was newly refurbished. Best shower. Good location. Friendly staff. Easy check in. Thoughtful bonuses of a welcome drink each and bottled water.

Graham and I had dinner 15th April, 2024. Perfectly cooked well done porterhouse s t ea k s! The b est chips I have had in years. Thank you Dev and the hotel staff. We had a lovely meal and great service.

Going to get 2 piece fish n chips from here instead of the take aways. Always good and enough for me n hubby. Our favourite local! Friendly staff. Great happy hours every day. Love the free raffle with wheel spin on Friday nights.

Friendly service, delicious schnitty, great value happy hour from 4-7pm. Basically half price pints. Front bar is a top place to have a meal and watch the footy with the friendly locals.

Food was lovely - I had the steak which was thick and cooked as I ordered, with thick cut crispy chips. My husband had the paella special which could have used more spice but the seafood was not overcooked. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was trivia night (Thursday) unfortunately we missed the start.

Food … OK.
Service … minimum.
Staff appeared … well, like they couldn’t be bothered.
Cleaning: rather than clean the tables, food debris was brushed off the table on to the carpet. Pretty poor. Make sure you check the bottom of your shoes as you leave.

Cob loaf was fantastic, infact everything was great. Minus the size of a half snitty, yes it’s a half but for $18 (without topping) you’d expect a snitty bigger than a 1 year old child’s hand, which was also mean to feed the 1 year old also, while everything tasted incredible, the size was deplorable, should have just ordered a kids meal and saved $$

Bridget and Angie are the best people ever came down from Adelaide for a holiday and honestly was the best experience I’ve ever had the bartenders are so nice and they’ll talk to you all night.

Best parmy in a long time, but the lady behind the bar was above and beyond. Watching her interact with patrons, local and non, she is definitely the heart of this place! Didn't catch her name, blonde lady. Locals are very welcoming too!!!

A mate and I dined here for lunch on Dec 7 and the food was absolutely delicious. I scored the burrito bowl 8/10. Chloe was a bubbly, friendly and professional waitress and the Federal Hotel should be stoked to have her on their books!
