About Formby Hotel
No-frills hotel with basic rooms & dorms, offering Wi-Fi, dining & a kitchen, plus free parking. Located by Mersey River, this relaxed hotel is 3 km from the 19th-century Mersey Bluff Lighthouse, 4 km from the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal, and 5 km from the Tasmanian trail connecting Devonport to Dover. The simple single-sex dorms and private rooms (located in the annex) have Wi-Fi and shared bathrooms; the dorms add lockers. Upgraded rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs and teamaking facilities, as well as private bathrooms. Family rooms provide kitchenettes. Parking is free. There's a restaurant, a bar with a pool table, and a TV lounge. Guests also have access to a kitchen.

YES..this place is very nice (warned of the downstairs noise , so I took earplugs) I loved my weekend stay.Got a park outside, both nightsš.Room was top notch, could see the Spirit, come & go. Room service, excellent. Restaurant was excellent, best garlic chicken meal, Ive ever had, & the pints were nice & cold. Had to buy a bottle of blend 43 coffee, the free stuff was not good .Keep up the good serviceš

Wow, great food and menu. I would not finish my Parmi while the scallops wife had were cooked perfectly.

We walked in and they fitted us in. We enjoyed our last evening in Tasmania with really tasty food and great wine with fast friendly service. I had fantastic tasting Salmon which they cooked to my preference. My wife had yummy sliders. Both matched with Tasmania wines.|Well done to everyone involved.

we ate at the restaurant a few times in the past and always enjoyed our food there but this time we were most disappointed. the fish roulades were dry and unappealing, the lamb salad was greasy and the other meals were sub par. Was it the chef's night out? the Restautant surroundings are inviting and it is well positioned in town where you can see the ferry come and go, staff are nice and helpful. not the best dinner experience this time

Very pleasant and homely|Spotlessly clean|Quiet|Helpful staff|A couple of flights of stairs was a bit of a challenge for me as an older woman |When I checked in the first time on my way to Hobart a very kind young woman named Candy hauled my bag upstairs

The rooms were old but clean and tidy. Bathroom was good and the shower strong. The meals downstairs were first class. Prefer more secure parking but a very nice place to stay.

The location is great. Staff is friendly and helpful. The room is tiny but okay for short stay.
The highlight is they provide hair dryer cuz not every backpacker would do.
Overall, I would recommend for others who is travelling and looking for cheap stay.

The hotel was adjacent to the spirit of tasmania, which was convenient on arrival... check-in was quick... room was comfortable.. amenities clean but not enough room to park car in Hotel carpark on arrival... waited till patrons left to get a closer spot to Hotel... food was enjoyable..

Spacious family room, nice view looking at the Spirit of Tasmania in action. We received help with late check in which was much appreciated. Clean, quiet and affordable.

Shower was good, bed was comfortable. Old hotel with stairs and no lift. Heater did not work and wifi was weak. Parking was free but limited spots.

Room clean and tidy, linen fresh, comfortable bed. Had pork belly meal delivered hot from the hotel kitchen, delicious. The woman checking us in was very friendly and accomodating.

My wife and I were heading to Devonport and needed something on short notice. Fortunately this did the trick. The bed was comfortable and the facilities were very much appreciated. And whilst the room was located above a bar, the noise was never an issue. Also of note is the location which was close to the CBD and provide a front row seat to see the colossal ferries come in. Very nice place indeed!

Lovely, the folks that run this place are truly friendly, anything we've asked has been answered with real feeling. Food is delicious, nice selection of wines in fact all beverages are covered. The room is clean with a nice shower bath. We arrived late on the Spirit, but no problems room warmed up. We decided to stay an extra day because of this.

Loved this place. Clean, comfortable rooms & washrooms, basic amenities like tea / coffee maker (even a toaster), VFM pricing, room with a view towards the SoT berthing pier, a great reasonably priced restaurant (Central) on the ground floor, and free parking - what more does one want?

I have given 5 stars because of the girls they were Awesome good to deal with polite helpful and always happy. As for the room Bed was hard uncomfortable š
shower pressure was dreadful even worse when someone else turned the water on. no pressure. Room was spotless except for Pubic hairs in bath and were soap holder was.. Your meals are Amazing good size well presented. š
Not 100% sure I stay again shame about bed & Shower. To the ladies that served me and checked me in great asset to Formby Hotel Business.

I had a very enjoyable stay at the Formby Hotel in Devonport. The staff were welcoming and friendly and happy to help with things like carrying my luggage up the stairs. The room was light, clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the en suite was bright and lovely with plenty of hot water. The room had a great view of the river and the Spirit of Tasmania. Downstairs there is a nice restaurant and Pokies venue and the hotel is close to shops and not far by car to supermarkets. There was off street parking in the yard behind the hotel next to a bottle shop. I highly recommend the Formby Hotel and look forward to staying there again.

I didnāt have high expectations as it was a last minute booking. Turns out this place is great! We are at the restaurant below which was amazing. Selection and quality of food was great. The room was very comfortable. The shower was the best Hotel shower I have ever had. The beds were comfortable with an assortment of pillows. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Hard to find in dark, service good room very clean, fridge, toaster, kettle etc well equipped.

Had an amazing dinner here. I had Pork belly with roasted carrots and beans and the husband had lamb rack. The chef does the most amazing sauces to go with these. Best pub meal I have ever had. Staff were lovely and attentive but not over baring. Fantastic!

Great location right near the harbor and close to the arrival area for spirit of Tasmania. However the room smelt like an old library book and they are attached to a bar so lots of loud music and patrons going until about 11pm.

Great food, the only problem we had was that the order was not totally correct. I know they were busy, but getting the customers order correct should be up there on the priorities list as well as good service

excellent accommodation- the room was clean, good attention to detail - the hotel is professionally run - the bistro is excellent with great menu selection - will definitely be back. The quality of the food is also excellent, great location for Devonport and the spirit of Tasmania and the cost is very reasonable - couldnāt recommend it highly enough

Comfortable bunk beds. Kitchen sink was full of dirty dishes all of the 4 days we stayed. Our room had dirty clothes in the cupboard, as well as a bag with rotten fishing stuff (bait?)||No light in our room, but the friendly staff immediately changed the bulb.||Clean towels every day, and free parking. Central location with the best view of the harbor. The balcony in front is the place where people can smoke.||The floor in our room was dirty, and there was a book,a sock and a plastic cover under the bed.||Our room, no. 10, was right outside a very noisy ventilator. ||The fire escape was blocked by laundry racks.||We have stayed in hostels for nearly 4 months, and this is the dirtiest we have seen.

A warm welcome from the staff, efficient ordering and service. We had bacon wrapped scallops (shared entree) and the lamb rump and beef cheeks for mains. The food was well presented, good sized portions and arrived hot and tasty. Kudos to the staff, who checked in on us to make sure we were happy, several times during the night

As a stay over . Hostel type of place room I saying is was too small. Bunk bed. Couldn't breath.

A good location across Devonport Ferry terminal, with a view of the Spirit of TasmaniĆ . Suitable for backpackers. Complete with Aminities. Friendly receptionist. Ample parking.
