What a lovely pub, beautifully styled and the food is outstanding. My husband and I went on a Monday night so it was two for one. A big rack of ribs for him and pork belly with all the trimmings for me, $38 for both. Will definitely be back.

What a gem of a pub! Stayed overnight on way down to Sydney and the room was clean and tidy and recently renovated with all the basics you would expect. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that there was a air con fan motor outside our room window which ran all night and NEEDS TO BE MOVED!!!! The bar and bistro was a highlight and a pleasant surprise and the meals were first rate. Worth the trip for the food alone and the place was full the night we were there and the atmosphere was great. Pub grub at its best, just fix the noise outside the bedroom windows otherwise bring your earplugs. One last tip, try the local brew on tap. Cheers.

Went there today to have lunch. Guys wow you totally got this extra star as i seen a huge change. Beautiful staff friendly and welcoming. The food is to die for, buffalo wings blew me out of the water. Bloody delicious guys. Chefs are great guys, obliging and nothing was a hassle to make the customer happy. Definitely earned the positive feedback and the extra star. Keep up the great work best pub feed in kempsey. Congratulations guys x

Went for lunch today 10th Jan 2024 first to order and waited over 20 minutes for 2 medium rare steaks, when ready they were very well done and very dry, luckily enough sauce to make them almost palletable. Expensive food for our dog

We had a fortieth birthday in the Bistro for ten people booked. The staff were very friendly and helpful even when half of our guests were an hour late. The Chef Jake and his crew did an outstanding job of preparing us ten different meals all at the same time. The food looked and tasted great and we would certainly eat there again. The Bistro is very comfortable and well appointed. Jake and his staff went over and above what we expected and we were very impressed with all that they did - even down to preparing the birthday cakes we had brought with us. Thoroughly recommend them. Just fantastic and great value.

Was looking for accommodation for a stop over as we were travelling from Melbourne Victoria to Byron Bay NSW .
Decided to stop at Kempsey and booked into the great Northern Hotel..
It was under a $100 for the room.
It slept 2 people me and my mate.
Rooms were old pub style, upstairs, unfortunately no air-conditioning, just a big ceiling fan, but the windows opened wide so it was not to bad.
Room was clean.
We had a shared kitchen, big fridge and had freezer, kitchen was well appointed and clean.
Also shared bathroom 🚻, toilets separate men's one side ladies the other. Amenities were fine 🙂
Special mention to the bar staff and staff in general, all pleasant and helpful.
Bistro served great food, reasonable prices and delicious.. compliments to chef and waitresses...
Special mention of the sports bars, fantastic facilities a absolutely HUGE TV 📺, and lots of others to view sports races news etc. Also I did see a pool table or 2 which is great 👍.. Atmosphere we found to be cruisey laid back, well worth a visit and a night or 3 stay cheers Colin Lexton Victoria Australia 🇦🇺

Stopped in on our way from brisbane to hobart for dinner and a few drinks. Honestly one of the best pub meals I think I've ever had. Do yourself a favour and try the scotch fillet.

Stayed there on a Friday night and was great experience the super surf and turf meal was amazing, and would stay again also recommend to others, great little hotel, loved it.

Stayed here overnight on my way through. The room was inexpensive, clean and refurbished. Mattresses in the twin room were very comfortable. Block out shades on the window. It's a pub hotel so you'll get music until 11.30 or so but otherwise it was great. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Room is clean. Price is good. Shared bathroom and kitchen with fridge and microwave oven. Ceiling Fan is provided instead of air conditioner. Quite hot in summer. Downstairs are pubs/restaurant. Great location.

No aircon. We were in the room right above the noisy hot compressor from downstairs. Couldn't sleep, which made for a bad day the next day. If you want to have female and male bathrooms please lable them. Men shaved their beards in the females and left their hair. Absolutely disgusting.

Loved our stay here to break up the trip home. The staff were lovely and accommodating.
It was so nice after travelling all day and getting in late to still be able to have dinner downstairs and the kids could have a play in the play area.
Our room was just a bit hot though, an aircon would have been great.

Celebrated son's 22nd birthday. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Cannot thank them enough. Food was delicious 😋 . 16 people at our table and everyone enjoyed their meal and the time it took for service.

Bad experience of overpriced accommodation.I was charged $140.39 for one person to stay in room 6 (queen mattress) where it was IMPOSSIBLE TO SLEEP due to 1. no air con in rooms and 2. The window opens out to the pub's main air con outlet which blasts out all night long. I ended up leaving at midnight due to it being so unbearable and it was still going strong.
Also,the bistro was closed despite being advertised as open which left only Aldi and a burger van (highly recommend) as places to eat in town.
The place was newly decorated,sheets were crisp and the lady in charge of the bar tried her best to help but none of this could hide the fact that some of these rooms are not fit for purpose especially in summer.

As a police officer on duty wanted a relaxed envirenment ...didnt get that at all ...trivia nite wednesday made me and my company feel un welcome and am in company with colleges to acknowledge a poor experience

All the staff are very friendly. Unfortunately, the 3 stars relate to the Bistro. The quality, and portion sizes, of the food has somewhat declined over the past 6 months - the salad leaves have been limp (an understatement!), and the salad dressing severely lacks (give diners a choice other than mayo, and I counted just ONE quarter of a tomato, and ONE VERY THIN slice of cucumber cut in half!), the gravy is too runny to be classified as a gravy, the chips resemble fries (if I want a fast food chip, I'd go to a fast food outlet), and the thickness of the steak I had would have blown off my plate if a wind had blown through the bistro. They shouldn't be asking diners to pay restaurant prices for a pub meal.
