We recently attended a function at the hotel and the venue was able to cater to our group with generous sized rooms of various sizes. We found a space which accommodated us perfectly and the service was fantastic.
Hard to choose what to order from an interesting menu because everything looked so good, but no complaints about quality or serving size from the whole table.
Can’t wait to go back.

Very average quality food (although pretty expensive)and cold service from bar staff. I’ve had about 10 different parmas across Geelong in the past 12 months and this one was certainly the worst

The worst meal at any pub in over ten years! The order took 70 minutes to arrive. We sat and waited while other orders arrived within 10 minutes. Chicken schnitzel was cooked on one side and raw on the other. Fish cooked same way. Really disappointed as food in the past at this hotel was excellent, but not any more. Will not go to the Great Western in Newtown again.

The new menu is awesome we had a beautiful chilli prawn pasta this evening it was definitely 5 star ++ food we highly recommend xx locals

Terrific lunch. Chicken Kiev and Lamb cutlets. Beautifully presented and delicious. The apple cider complemented both meals. Highly recommend. Staff friendly and helpful as well.

Pleasantly surprised with food and service. Haven't been for a while nut the menu choice and servings were excellent. Highly recommend

Our lunch began nicely. However the lunch slowly went down hill. Me and another person at the table ordered the southern fried chicken burger which should have been called the southern fried coriander burger. After finishing our meals we were after some dessert and coffee when ordering we were loudly turned away by the wait staff to order at the bar. When ordering a soy hot chocolate be aware they only have skim and full cream milk on offer at this hotel. One person had ordered a macchiato, being trained in a cafe myself it was definitely not a macchiato. Along with this service the table was found uncomfortable with the lack of staff not wearing masks there was no one wearing a mask in the kitchen and if someone in the wait staff was, it was below their nose.

My wife and I stayed at Shannon Motel overnight and chanced upon this hotel next door. A daily special was roast pork! WOW! A proper old fashioned roast, excellently cooked potatoes, pumpkin, carrots. Huge serve of peas. Finely sliced meat and delicious gravy. My wife was very leased with her Bruschetta. The Sticky Date Pudding was excellently presented and suitably rich. Cream, strawberries, blueberries and raspberry accompanied it. An excellent feed.

My partner and I went to this hotel on 30/10/2023 for lunch and had the worse meal we've every had. My Asian sticky fried chicken was dry and shriveled up and my partner's Ravioli was so bland it had no taste. We thought dessert couldn't be that bad but the golden syrup dumplings were also dried and undercooked tasting more like dry scones and the syrup that came with it was of the consistency of water. We are never going back to this hotel again.

My family and I stayed in Newtown for 1 night and went to the pub for dinner and were extremely impressed. The staff were super friendly, attentive and helpful. The meals were delicious, a good size and came out very quickly. The menu also had lots of variety on it.

My disabled client,who had not been out for a meal,in a long time,and myself recently experienced a very pleasant lunch time at this hotel.All of the staff were Helpful,Courteous,and Kind. A big Thank you,to the chef,who made a special effort,over my client's request for an oyster dish.Spacious,comfortable seating,we were treated with respect and felt valued. Beautiful presentation of the meals,which were delicious,and a generous size.So Good to know my client Truly enjoyed his dining experience which he had long anticipated.

Love our local. A true pub experience. Front bar, bistro, kids area. Don't love the recent change to only include beer during happy hour. What about wine drinkers?

I went to the Western for a meal and it was awesome, I had the grazing platter which was a special and wow it did not disappoint. After my meal I decided to go to their bottleshop and get a bottle of wine, the staff, especially the bloke named Ben, was extremely knowledgeable about wine, he helped me chose an amazing bottle of Pinot Noir. Great service all round.

Had most unpleasant experience of an intoxicated employee running down a fellow employee using the foulest language whilst not actually on the job. The bar staff did nothing to quash the incident. If she worked for me she would have been fired on the spot. Not a wonderful representative of The Great Western!

Had lunch at the Western Tuesday 17th October and it was very good. My brother and I had steak sandwiches which were terrific. Lovely piece of steak an egg slices of bacon chips and salad all for $18. To make everything better $6 schooners went down a treat.

Had a great meal for a family lunch, scotch fillet was a little undercooked (asked for medium rare) lovely and juicy, great gravy, chicken parmas were also great, only downside was the salad, 90 percent lettuce and a handful of hard green peas, and sparing red onion. Not the greatest, meals came out quick and bar service was great. Will be back next time I'm in Geelong.

Great venue to get together for either a business lunch, party with friends or just a bite to eat. Great meals, lots of choices and very good prices.

For a family-friendly pub, it's pretty good at delivering. There's some distractions for the kids & a nice hub-bub of chatter in the background. The food was certainly worth a visit. Staff are efficient & helpful. Bug serves so I opted fir two entrées. Seared scallops were delicious as was the arancini.

Dinner was ok, but my car was keyed in the car park while I was dining. I emailed the hotel for assistance via CCTV, but got zero response. I don't hold the hotel responsible for the damage to my car, and I appreciate there was not much they could do. However a simple response to my email was not to much to ask. I am a regular customer for whatever that seems to mean.

Another pleasing Pub Feed
Great Western Hotel, great vibe from the moment I walked in.
Chicken Parmi With salad, was not disappointed. Interesting twist on the Salad, not the usual “Parma pub salad” which was nice for a change.
Meal decent portion for the price ($29) and tasted great, could tell quality ingredients were used, cheese was fresh and Chicken done right.

A good local pub, close to our place, we ordered the ribs and the Nasi Goreang and the kids nuggets the meals were huge and delivered in a flash. Great for young families, as it has the playroom for kids with monitors for parents to watch on. Lots of car parks, menu has a wide variety, is on the slightly pricier side of normal but I guess that’s inflation for you

5 stars for the pork ribs and they were amazing!! My partner had the parma and that was average. Daughter had nuggets and they were cheese nuggets she didn't like em and was no option for normal. My son loved his spaghetti bolognese. Service wasn't that friendly so giving 1 star for that..
