We stopped for lunch one day while we were on our Cycling trip in the area. The staff were super friendly. The nachos were tasty and just what the body needed. We sat on the front balcony and enjoyed the view while we ate before a quick power nap on the lawn out the back before getting back on our bikes.
Definitely worth stopping in when you're in the area.

We found this pub after an unplanned stop in Dubbo.
Great food, service, and super friendly locals. There was even free camping over the road.
We will no longer look at ways around Dubbo on our future trips because we will be making our first night stop at the Hair of the Dog. Thanks for a great night.

We camped across the road from the pub, great little space with grass & trees. Wandered over to the pub for dinner, the staff were friendly, as well as the other customers. We had a Stockyard pizza (best we've had since being on the road for nine months), garlic bread yummy & beer & wine well priced & cold. Would highly recommend Hair of the Dog, great Aussie pub.

This pub is a great find. After riding the Central West Cycle Trail from Mendooran, we stopped in for lunch.
The pub has a lovely family friendly beer garden out the back. And stacks of seating out front to watch the world go by.
Fortunately for us it was Sunday with roast of the day. Pork with mash and vegies - just superb. And only $15.
The rest of the menu looked good esp the salads. But the weekly roast is hard to beat.
It’s a family run pub - and they are lovely friendly people.
Country hospitality at its best - we will be back.

This is a great little proper country pub. It is right up there with the iconic Nindigully Hotel. The publican was friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent - tender roast lamb with vegetables. Wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back.

The rating scale is inadequate to describe the amazing service provided by Rita (and her family). Suffice to say that due to their incredible kindness, assistance and hospitality my bicycle tour was saved and I survived to ride another day, well fed, watered and rested and with a wonderful memory of Ballimore and the Hair of the Dog Inn packed in my pannier bags.

Stayed here on the 10/07 ad part of a adventure motorbike ride across NSW and QLD. Loved it. Great pub, great food, great people. Had a secure place to park the bikes overnight and the beds were comfortable with electric blankets.
Was a great way to start a mid life crisis ride!!!!

Little HIDDEN GEM. Nice location away from the crowds. Friendly people. Quaint little Inn. No daily servicing of the room but I presume you could ask to have linen changed or for fresh towels and wouldn’t be a problem, and really you can just pull up your own quilt.
One tip to the owners, when people leave accomodation, clean the room and make up ready for new customers rather than leave the door open to an unmade room, would make for a nicer atmosphere out the back. A couple of hooks on the wall would be beneficial if you don’t want to put a cupboard in the room.

I stopped with seven others cyclists cycling the Central West Cycle route. The rooms are Inviting and warm, the showers are hot and the bar service was friendly and welcoming. As a suggestion a warm breakfast room with a few more food options would have been welcome. The evening meals weren’t great … but that won’t deter us from another visit. This was our second stay.

I stayed in this pub several times until about 1 1/2 year ago. food was great, room basic but comfortable and service staff friendly. However I stayed there recently and it was a big dissapointment. There are to rooms closed of by a hallway which is claime have an ensuite. Not true it is a shared bathroom and toilet. When I pointed this out and added that i only had a key to the hallway but no key for my room and the bathroom could not be locked I had an argument from the bartender who basically in not so many words indicated I was stupid as I could lock the door to the hallway. I pointed out the other room in the same hallway ccould be rented out which gave me no privacy. Needles to sayI won't be staying there anymore

I booked here for a night because I couldn’t find anything with better reviews in Dubbo. Had I known the location was far and no reception at all, I would just book any motel in Dubbo on the spot.
Room was spotless and warm with electric blankets. Kudos for the housekeeper. However, it lacks of necessities such as coat rack/hanger or bedside lamps would be useful rather than fake plants.
Staff communication was really poor. Gave me key without briefing where is the shower, bathroom and where I could get breakfast in the AM. I suspect the breakfast was provided as in my booking said so, but the door said only accessible for STAFF ONLY and it’s closed! No brief where should I go out when the door through pub is closed either.
With same amount of money, I might as well book some dorm in the city as I needed to share toilets and shower outside and no wifi. At least you could offer to buy wifi access or using computers whatsoever. But straight repetitive “we have no wifi” wasn’t helpful at all. I got stranger offered me to check map route with their phone instead.
I bet good reviews came from people using their free parking areas for caravans/campers which is great. But other than the quality of the room, I would never stay here.

Great vibe. Very helpful and friendly staff. Perfect for cyclists. They have a cage to store bikes and a hose outside to wash them. Room was clean and comfortable. Simple breakfast (cereal and toast) is provided but seemed like they didn't expect anyone to have it - no spoons, no butter, no bin or place to put dirty dishes. Great stay anyway.

Great country pub close to Dubbo. Great food in front of the cosy fireplace. Rooms are great with big comfy beds, bit draughty but supplied with heaters and electric blankets. Lovely atmosphere and lots of locals enjoying the pub.

Fantastic, quirky little country pub. Excellent atmosphere, generated by marvellous hosts. Accommodation is older, but spotlessly clean & well maintained. You can either stay in a standard pub room & share the bathroom with the other 6 or so rooms, or get on of the 2 ensuite rooms, these 2 share their own ensuite.|The included breakfast is basic but sufficient, choice of 3 cereals, bread / toast, fruit & 3 types of tea, coffee & juice.|Food is very good pub grub with generous, bit not wastefully over large portion sizes. There is a playground next door for the kids & also caravan accommodation on site,|Most important, the beer is cold.

Family run pub.
Cheap as.
Friendly staff they make you free like you don't want to go.
Locals have sing alongs and make you free welcomed.
I will be staying here again.
Owners that run the pub happy to sit and have a chat, no pokies which make it a relaxing enjoyable place to rest and have a few.

Awesome little pub, great food and staff were very friendly. We stayed in the free camping at the front of the pub, awesome spot to a stop over. The trains do come through but that didn’t bother us. 👍

A good place to stop when on the road. Cheap camping out the back of the pub, it's free accros the road but I much preferred being on site of the pub with access to the toilets & shower also. Just be mindful if the train goes past at night it's loud - gave me a fright! Friendly service at the pub, good food & drink.
