Where do I begin? This place hosted a 170 Aud a night event and it was awful. It was disorganised from the start. Some Of the food was on but some was not. Beef was tough as leather for example. duck did not have much meat on it. The bigger concern was that there was a vip table who were making paper planes out of the menu and throwing them at paying guests who had invested 170 Aud each for what was expected to be a more Sophisticated evening. The matching wines were terrible and from unheard of places. In summary this place thinks that it is better than it is and I would avoid eating here in favour of much better places in the area. Ps for the owners reference the vip idiot was a Russell Brand look alike which is quite funny given that Russell is a complete rsole himself

We were travelling around south-west WA for our honeymoon from NSW back in March 2023 and we stopped by Albany for a few nights breaking up our drive between Margaret River and Esperance. When we reached Albany, we heard a few locals recommending the restaurant Liberte'. Boy, this placed did not disappoint!! This restaurant is extremely unique and unlike anything I have ever experienced before. The interior and vibe ias unreal. It's mixed between a historic heritage style and Asian, and the food is a fusion between French and Vietnamese, and this is just incredible! We were so impressed by the customer service and how lovely the staff were. The food and drinks menu are very diverse and plenty to choose from. Although on the expensive side, I highly recommend booking a reservation and dining in here! You won't regret it. 5/5!!!

Well! This was a surprise! I was not expecting a French fusion / bohemian? Restaurant with exceptional Bao buns and Rabbit confit. Lovely and eclectic setting, friendly staff, solid wine list and some lovely items across a very interesting menu designed to share. Come with an open mind and definitely try the Bao. The profiteroles were also a nice way to finish.

We had a lovely night at Liberté! The staff were friendly and food was delicious. We ordered our drinks and food, and it was ready within minutes. Our booking was at 8:30pm so it probably wasn’t too busy around that time. The food was bursting with flavours but it’s a bit pricey and portions aren’t too big. The french fries with pho gravy tasted amazing but got salty with each bite. The pork belly just melts in the mouth. I also love the addition of the kaffir lime in the fried rice. The crab noodles was tasty but it got too sour and salty for me as I kept eating it. Overall it was a lovely experience and will definitely be back to try the other foods in the menu.

The TL;DR version of my review of Liberté: seemingly confused, pretentious attempt at "elevated" South East Asian street food, sold at astronomically high prices served in a space with mismatched furniture (see previous mention of pretentiousness), by servers unable to answer questions about the food and wine on their menu. My rating would be 0/5, but alas Google ratings must begin at 1/5. I really wanted to like this place. We were on holiday, and based on the recent reviews, thought it would be a bit of a treat: a fun place to dine and enjoy some good, modern food. Garlic Chilli Crab Noodle ($32) "aka crack noodles, the liberté addicts drug of choice" - This was over-seasoned to the point of being inedible, think salty and overly sour (the mouth-puckering kind of sour), garlic and chili were not flavours detected in this dish. Texturally, the egg noodles that were the primary ingredient in this dish seemed over-cooked and had a greasy, somewhat gummy mouth-feel. Oh and crab, what crab? We were hungry, but still left more than half of what was the petite-sized serving on the plate. Yeah it was that much of a waste of $32. Vietnamese Duck Noodle Soup ($40) "mi viet time - sous vide duck breast, pork wonton, fresh egg noodle, pickled shitake, herbs, bean sprouts, lemongrass and chilli infused duck fat" - Confused is the word that comes to mind when describing this dish. This was a bowl of egg noodles in oily broth, topped with two very average boiled pork wontons, a sliced, small, mostly over-cooked duck breast, a few slices of pickled shitake mushroom, raw untailed bean sprouts, a sprig of dill, a few mint leaves, and sliced red chilli. It wasn't horrible, but it most certainly wasn't worth anywhere close to $40. The upside, compared to the other noodle dish, this one was edible, albeit the broth being oily. Oh and a couple of glasses of drinkable wine at $15 a glass helped wash down this meal of disappointment. To summarise: Don't believe the hype, spend your money and time elsewhere: we arrived hungry and still thought the food was subpar, and so left hungry. And the service leaves a lot to be desired.

There were moments of brilliance -- tastes that really rocked our boats. But-- three small spring rolls lazily put on a romaine/cob leaf, with a very thin soy/citrus sauce? $23 worth? These would be $2.25 each back home in Canada. ( Yeah, I know, it's not really comparative in all aspects.) Pork was named first in the menu description: not so in ours. "Shaken beef" is a classic Vietnamese dish. Rump beef CAN work, IF the beef is prepped correctly. Time in a marinade or adding bicarb work. Pounding also breaks the beef fibres. None of these techniques seem to have been employed. The meat cubes were different sizes, as well. I was tempted to open my Leatherman to access a really sharp blade as the beef was that tough. Yet the Lucky Sauce was beautiful, the watercress was on point. Cook the beef correctly & it's a winner of a dish. At $38 for the beef then being charged $4 for perhaps a cup of sticky rice was a bit over the top. A suggestion: staff should go north to Freo & have an evening or two at Emily Taylor. There's a lot to learn. (Short-staffing was very apparent. It's unfortunate.) As a tourist twosome, first impressions are often the only ones we have. Liberté is OK, but on our next trip to see family in WA, we will look elsewhere.

The price was definitely not worth it. First things first, this place is not family friendly since they do not offer a high-chair. We were told they were not that "kind" of restaurant, aka no toddlers and babies. We went during dinner time, very hungry and wet from the constant rain and tired. This place was recommended to us and we were looking forward to it We ordered 3 dishes - Chili Crab and Garlic Noodle, Vietnamese Duck Noodle, Shaking Beef. Overall, the food wasn't that horrible; it was actually tasty. However, the portion size to price was appalling. One dish would set you back an average of 35-40 AUD. But the portion would only be enough for 2 people, less if you are as tired and hungry as we were. On the flip side, the service was great, especially the server who served us. The ambiance was mismatched quirky vibe. In conclusion, go only when you have money to burn and only when you are not so hungry.

The most amazing and best food we have eaten in a long time. The seafood steamboat was fantastic, complex flavours, very fresh and high quality seafood. The garlic chilli crab noodles were delicious. Amazing Crème Brûlée. The cocktails, beers, wines are great and something different. We also loved the decor and atmosphere.

The food was nothing like authentic Vietnamese or French food. The chilly crab noodle had evidence of chilli and a lot of noodle - no sign of crab. The charcuterie rice was a pretty basic fried rice, at a grossly inflated price. There was not a lot of Vietnamese about the spring rolls. The prices were excessive for the quality of the food. We have eaten Vietnamese food in a fair number of venues and this was poor quality by comparison. We sought out this venue based on the reviews we had read, and were seriously disappointed. Basically overrated and overpriced.

The exterior is deceiving. I was staying only around the corner from Liberte and had walked past it many times and thought little of it as from the outside it looked like a regular pub. However, upon deciding to check it out, it had a beautiful French style dining room with the most amazing menu. One of the best meals I had during my six night stay in Albany.

Super delicious Asian fusion food in an amazing venue. The crab noodles are to die for, and the loaded fries hit the spot. The profiteroles are so good too! Been here twice and it's definitely a must-visit when in Albany!

Such a fun and different menu! All dishes were amazing - our favourite being the steak tartare and chilli crab noodles. We also had the profiteroles which were amazing. 10/10 for food, menu, venue, and staff ☺️ Catered to my partners nut allergy with ease - we are sad this restaurant isn’t in Perth!

Such a delightful venue! A fun, luxe interior, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Great drink selection. Let down by the food - was recommended the garlic chilli crab noodles which the reviews also raved about. But my dish was quite dry, with only a small amount of crab, and not much else to liven it up amongst the noodles. A couple of menu options (noodles included) just raved about how good they were, without mentioning what was in the dish. I did enjoy the experience and would come here again, but would definitely choose something else from the menu.

Lovely experience for our anniversary dinner last night at Liberté. The staff are all so friendly and the food is superb. Definitely try the loaded fries with brisket and the bao buns! The special brussel sprouts were to die for too! Cocktails are so yummy 😋 Thank you for making our anniversary night so special! Highly recommend if you're in Albany to stop by.

I went there for a birthday dinner with my parents and the food was phenomenal. The table favourite was the scallops and the pork belly 😋 we also had the garlic Chilli crab noodles, crispy chicken bao buns, profiteroles and the lemongrass and golden syrup pudding 😍 lovely service and cozy atmosphere, though its a bit pricey the flavours you get on a plate is worth it,100% would recommend

its located in a heritage style building. the salmon tasted alright but the crab noodles is overly salty and feels like instant noodles dressed up. there were no other customers when we were there for lunch. probably just not suitable to my palate.

Highly recommend Liberté - we visited on Saturday night just gone; friendly, personable service, amazing food and the cocktails were not just great for a regional town, but some of the best I’ve had in memory (we ordered two rounds each of the ‘Roger Ramjet’ and the ‘Kokomo’). For food we enjoyed the chili crab noodles, the crispy chicken bao, the pork & prawn dumplings, and the asparagus. Will absolutely be returning, and hopefully soon.

Great atmosphere and ambiance. A lot of effort went into it and the old building just exudes style. Food tasted great. We had the Sweet and Sour glazed chicken wings, Roast Pumpkin Dumplings & the Coconut Vinegar Braised short ribs. Good night only marred by the service, they were slightly disorganised and food took ages to come out.

Good as always, though we were extremely disappointed the Brussel sprouts weren’t on the menu as this has been our go to when we visit all the way from Perth. Would be awesome to consider putting it on the permanent menu and I’m aware it’s super popular!

Food is ok, the crab noodles too salty.scallop was ok. We booked for 2 people and we were given a high seat with low table, the waitresses initially told us seats cannot be changed but in the end managed to give us a better seat. The day was not very busy but there were only 2 waiting staff otherwise service could have been better.

A very distinctive bohemian atmosphere in an old traditional hotel. The fusion cuisine is intriguing and very tasty. The mixed crowd adds to the cozy and relaxed ambiance. Highly recommended.

Amazing food and service. Beautiful Asian/french decor in an old Albany pub-turned-restaurant. Loved the French press coffee set to relax in the quiet post-lunch period. The menu was really interesting and it was a pleasure choosing what to have. The standout was the Vietnamese profiteroles with coffee icecream, pistachios and chocolate ganache. Hefty portions mean good bang for your buck. Will be back next time we're in Albany.
