We visited Macs on new years day and highly appreciated venues that were open during this public holiday. We walked inside, displayed our vax statuses and sat ourselves down.
I located the menus near the bar area and ordered with the bar lady soon after. Paid the surcharge and the means came out shorter than anticipated given the amount of patrons in the hotel.
The young man that delivered our meals was great, he helped me when I placed an order via their online booking system by error. The food was standard hotel level quality however we were very grateful to be served on new years day.

Went on a public holiday day. Very busy but the person that served us was super nice. Ordered from the express lunch menu. Took 30mins for our food to come out. However the food was good. The gnocchi was absolutely amazing. Honestly the menu is confusing because it is a mix of cuisines but it kinda worked well. The calamari was fresh and crunchy and the thai curry pot pie had a kick to it. Overall was enjoyable and filling.

Well, Wouldn't buy the $10 mini cobloaf or should I say, 2 dinners rolls you buy in packets from Coles with a bit of cob loaf filling and cheese in them. Steak way over cooked, parmy undercooked, beer very pricey. All in all probably the worst feed we have in Victoria., especially for what we paid for it. Was recommended to go here. If this is the best Portland has to offer, I'm glad we are just passing through.

We highly recommend Macs Hotel Portland, where we recently enjoyed outstanding accommodation, great food, and exceptional service.
We hadn’t planned to stop in Portland, but thank goodness we changed our plans & booked in for a night. Wow, Wow, Wow.
Our room beautifully presented – the owners have done an amazing job on the restoration & presentation (plus thank you Brendan for your outstanding customer service at check-in).
From arrival to check-out, we were very impressed.
We WILL be back….

Way above average food for a bistro. Will come back for sure. Salt and pepper squid was excellent.

Was there Monday for a bday very poor service and waited 48min for food that was really bad and had no taste to it.
I ordered the prawn and chirizo pasta that was very poor in taste and presentation, the cheese on top was just a big lump of cheese and was uneatable....
Won't be returning here, I think I'll stick with the Royal hotel from here on.

walked into a beautiful, warm room with lots of character. Service was friendly and quick. Entrees and mains were timed perfectly. The pesto chicken fettuccine was to die for! Nice and creamy, lots of flavour, juicy chicken, fettuccine cooked perfectly. Thank you very much, made our night out a good one.

This is a beautiful, historic hotel established in the mid-19th century. The interior is in excellent condition and contains many historic photos of the hotel and the wider Portland township. My wife and I are caravanning and decided to stay in Portland for a week during which time we had lunch at the hotel twice. On both occasions, we really enjoyed the meals and friendly service. There is an excellent lunchtime menu which includes meals costing from $12-15. Drinks are a little on the pricey side with a glass of wine costing $10-12 and a schooner of craft beer about the same. However, the overall value is terrific, and the surroundings are very pleasant, with views of the bay from some of the dining room tables. I'd certainly recommend this hotel for a good, cheap meal.

The wife and I were in Portland for a 2 day stopover on the way to Melbourne. Decided we wanted a pub meal. This one was the choice as the other was closed. We both decided on the chicken Schnitzel. The Schnitzel was very nice indeed. A bit on the small side for the money paid though $20 for 1/2 size. The service was extremely good/excellent. The place stank of paint, really badly. The tables were very sticky. Overall, okay!

The service and food are not bad, however we have to wait for more than an hour for our meals. The floor is bit uneven, every time someone walked past, the table is shaking. Chicken pesto fettuccine is ok, flavour can be richer, not much pesto flavour.

The seafood risotto was amazing.
Garlic prawns and traditional carbonara were also brilliant.
Staff friendly and helpful, definitely coming back.

So tasty food, it’s incredible! And the bar look fantastic with the ship above it!
Trust me and take the Aussie Schnitzel, it’s the best!

Ordered beef stroganoff from express lunch menu and fish n chips and seafood risotto from main menu. All meals were full of flavor and fresh.
Great atmosphere eating on the deck overlooking the ocean. Highly recommend having lunch at this place.

My favorite pub anywhere. The rooms upstairs are beautifully restored and comfortable. Third time we have stayed here. The food is excellent. The staff are first rate

Met at the door to be served with a smile seated by the window with a view of the bay. The meals were large and also had the option to get a half size had entree savoury bread and the Stockmans schnitzel and chips found them to be very nice thanks will be back!

Just had a lunch time meal. The every reliable Steak sandwich. Unfortunately everything over cooked including the bun and the crunchy chips. Yes I ate it, and yes I was hungry and didn't want to wait for another to be cooked, and I told the waitress at the end. Would still come back as love the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. Just a review...Have a great day 😀

It’s a bloody shame!!! Disgraceful in fact!!!
A group of us (9) have not caught up for ages, there was a couple from WA and it was a birthday celebration.
The food was great, the service was good too but unfortunately the atmosphere was totally a let down..
Luckily we didn’t have a birthday cake to sing and blow out the candles because we wouldn’t have heard it!
A large group of musicians ( who do frequently go to the venue ) happened to be right next to us.. The music wasn’t an issue, the issue was the volume!!!!
Meals are still being taken until 830pm and people including us were still eating. We couldn’t hear us speak because of this…
When we booked we should have been informed that there would be musicians at the venue to give us an opportunity to either go or change the venue but we weren’t.
As I said, a bloody shame that this has happened so therefore we will be very careful if we book again..

I GIVE MACS ZERO STARS
It seems that my wife and I may have just been out of luck. We ordered roast of the day which was Roast Turkey. My meal arrived covered with icy cold gravy (straight from the fridge) I returned the meal and it came back straight out of the microwave. I am 70 years old and l have eaten many Roasted Meals in my life. On reflection, this was probably the worst Roast Dinner l have been served. Sorry to complain because the reviews for Macs Hotel are good.

If you look slim Do Not go there. Waste your money. And you still feel hungry after the meal. We ordered full size meal for dinner but the food amount were so small. The price not cheap. Very strange behaviour was about 40 minutes later while we were eating and chatting a young waitress approached and asked if we have finished and try to take our food away. Half of food still in plates. Of course we said no. The food is average.

I came here for a quick dinner with 3 other friends. The staff were friendly. Glad to see they have half size serve on menu, it suits ppl like me who counts calories. Though they made a tiny error on one order, once we pointed out at the end of the meal, they offered a free dessert as a gesture for apologize. Their good customer service attitude deserve a positive mark.

Four of us had dinner and all meals were delicious. The (two of) chilli prawn & chorizo fettuccini, chicken and wild mushroom risotto, and fettuccini marinara were devoured with gusto. We were so impressed with the flavour of the meals we are going back next weekend too! Oh, and the service was excellent!

Excellent food, good size and great price.
Roast of the day was pork and was fab. Sticky date pudding… $9 and bloody amazing!!

Classic pub experience in Portland without any surprises. The chef seems to like his schnitzel and there are probably six varieties available. We settled for steak, porterhouse and eye fillet, and both were cooked exactly as ordered. The sauces and sides were a little average... The ambience is classic country pub and makes one feel a little nostalgic. What you see is what you get and in the case of Mac's it's pretty good.
On the day of our visit the place was packed and kitchen and wait staff were totally on top of it.
Would I go back: sure. I think I might try one of the schnitzels next time....

Bar staff were very friendly, the food was bloody great. 300gm medium rate scotch fillet steak.... THE BEST STEAK I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME!!!
My wife had the Texan schnitzel, very nice also. Well Done Macs!!!!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mac's Hotel in Portland for a brief evening stop during a work trip. After an invigorating run and workout session, I was in search of a satisfying meal and stumbled upon this hidden gem. From the moment I entered, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality, despite not having a prior reservation and being dressed in my fitness gear.
The service at Mac's Hotel was truly exceptional. The staff at the door welcomed me with genuine enthusiasm, making me feel instantly comfortable. One of the staff members promptly escorted me to the bar, where I placed my order. I was pleasantly surprised when my drink arrived swiftly, and shortly after, my meal was served at my table.
I opted for the classic chicken Parma, and I must say it exceeded my expectations. The portion size was generous, accompanied by the crispiest chips and a refreshing salad. The flavors were outstanding, and the attention to detail in the presentation was commendable. Despite the substantial portion, I found myself struggling to finish it all, which speaks volumes about the quality and quantity provided.
As I enjoyed my meal, I couldn't help but be captivated by the breathtaking views of the Portland port through the window. The warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with the establishment's character, created a delightful dining experience.
I want to extend my gratitude to the staff at Mac's Hotel for their exceptional service and for making me feel welcome. A special commendation goes to the chef and kitchen team for their culinary expertise in preparing such a wonderful meal.
In conclusion, my evening at Mac's Hotel was truly memorable. The outstanding service, delectable food, and charming ambiance make it a place I eagerly look forward to returning to. Whether you're a visitor passing through or a local resident, Mac's Hotel is a must-visit destination in Portland.

$12 to $14 on average Bar lunch. Recommend the fish. I had the chilli beef bowl and it repeated on me for the rest of the day.!
