Worst pub in the area. Staff are rude and often try to short change you, the poker machines all of a sudden stop accepting the newer style bank notes if you're not doing big bets, I know people who've given the staff their phones to charge behind the bar and they "go missing" and the decor is terrible. The security guard they have working late on fridays and saturdays legitimately looks like some malnourished homless guy they've dragged of the street and dressed in a security uniform. I'm seriously surprised this place is even still operating, given how dodgy the place is. The pub is what I imagine purgatory to be like after you die and you're waiting to go to either heaven or hell. Avoid at all costs. Never again.

We were hungry for an Australia 🇦🇺 Day feed and were walking passed this Hotel. We popped in for a feed as it had been a while since we ate there and we’ll we ordered and got a couple of beers 🍻 to go with it. The steak was just delicious and veggies were not over cooked. Thank you to the chef for a great meal and to the bar staff the threes different Balter beers that I had went down well. I enjoyed the Hazy and the Mid strength ones. Keep up the good work. Sorry about my pic with some of my steak missing I was hungry 😋

Went to the hotel for dinner. To be honest we were really surprised at how good it was. A great range of pub classics.

Went there for $3 taco Tuesday with my girlfriend. The vegan tacos were so delicious I ordered a second round. They only had hard tacos but were quick to amend the situation with a refund or a choice of 3 soft and 2 hard. My appetite got the best of me so I opted for the 5 mixed tacos and to my delight they chef had taken time to prepare 2 extra soft tacos by making more batter for the tortillas.
Great experience and I'll be back again to fill my face with more tacos

Went here last night her dinner, drinks and to watch the footy. (We are here most weekends to watch the footy as we don't have pay TV) Was very glad to see Benny back in the restaurant last night as he is a great chef and the food was amazing. Josh one of the owners ways looks after us and he is very friendly and his customer service is on point, this pub is going in a good direction since being sold a few months ago keep up the great work!!

We just had one of the best meals we have ever had anywhere at Mayfield Hotel. The vegetables were better than fine dining. Our schnitzels were fantastic and the the salt n pepper squid wonderful. I had the chocolate fudge for dessert and it was beautiful with a lovely soft centre. We will be back for another meal as soon as we can!

Very quiet place. Went there at lunch. Food was good and the steak was cooked really well. I would go back.

Very disappointed.... went out of the pokie room ... with the reserve on.... with 64 bux on it ... got a drink had a lil chat with one of the locals for a min ... to return To my pokie machine someone else on it .... the bar staff refused to do anthing about it ...l... was very upset over this ... she refused to check the video camera .... so im standing there ... completely bemused by this .... when i asked repeatedly for something to be done i was asked to leave ?.?... NOT HAPPY

Unable to eat in with time permitted, got 3 take away lunch's. Sevice was great, all meals excellently presented, tasted fab. Picked up a menu for future ording. Car park at back of Hotel was convient for ducking in and out.

They have a pretty good menu, I got the schnitty (the normal, not the mega schnitty), and it was massive, with chips and salad. My girlfriend had the chicken strips and she loved them cause they have an amazing batter/crumb on them. I'll definitely go back. Oh and it's a nice, clean atmosphere with a TV for the footy which is always good haha

The Mayfield Hotel is definitely a favourite venue of mine to go to, Great customer service, $5 beers for members Monday to Friday plus karaoke and raffles fridays and the food is absolutely delicious! My partner and I eat here often and we are never disappointed.

Staff are so rude it's ridiculous. They are loving having the power of covid rules in their hands and really love bossing their patrons around if they get the opportunity. Generally unhelpful, negative and on a power trip. Also dirty and run down. Do not recommend especially with other pubs in the area making such an effort.

Spot on Steak Sanga and Grilled Chicken Burger. Not busy for lunch on a Sunday, infact we were the only people there. But once people catch on to the new bistro I'd say that won't be the case. Well done!

PATHETIC!!!! If I could have given them a minus I would have.
We enquired on the 26/06/23 regarding holding an 18th birthday party to have to wait until the 3rd July for a reply via email. ( Numerous follow up calls were made in this time and we were always unable to get someone from the establishment to answer the phone) After making a tentative booking it took a week for them to reply with details we required. ( prices, meals, wristbands etc) to which we returned their email same day stating we were happy with pricing etc. We paid the deposit and the payment for security on the 06/09/23 which was approx 2.5 weeks before it was due and waited for confirmation. Once again numerous phone calls went unanswered. I’m not talking 1 or two calls here, I’m talking like 50-60 from the 6th September until the 22nd when we finally got someone to answer only to be informed they had no bookings for the 7th October.
After many phone calls and emails back and forth where we showed receipt of deposits and where the tentative booking was originally made with the manager ( Cassey Jackson) and being told that the function manager was not working on the 7th, the mayfield hotel cancelled the party ( 2 weeks out from the date the party was to be held after invitations to guests had already been sent out and arrangements on our end made) and has yet to refund the money already paid ( quite a few hundred dollars). I’ve dealt with incompetent people in the past but this lot would have to be the worst. Little to no communication, confusion among staff members and aptitude is appalling. I suggest that anyone needing to book a function in the Mayfield area to stay away from the Mayfield Hotel. This is by far the worst experience I have ever encountered with function staff at any establishment.

One of the lesser frequented pubs in the area but has to be the cleanest. No big crowds to contend with for seating in the bar or dining area. Simple and affordable menu. Decent rNge of tap beers

Love it here, my partner and I go often. The wings are amazing, service is fantastic and they have a deal most nights, like $12 burgers on a Tuesday. 10/10

I chose to come here for the Wednesday night special, being the $20 rump and the $5 happy hour beers, ended up paying $31. I guess I should've read the fine print and to top it off the steak was rubbery and the atmosphere was non existent.

Had the most amazing meal here tonight it was absolutely amazing. The service was fabulous we will most definitely be back thank you to the staff and chefs was worth 50km drive, the rib eye was on point.

Food is absoultly fabulous, staff are friendly not a huge pub but enough to go go a few drinks and a yarn. The people who run this pub have a few others in the newcastle area and consistency is obviously there key. Great job!

Extremely disappointing. My client wanted the salt n pepper squid that was on the online menu, only to find out that it had been taken off menu the day before but not changed online. After asking, they said they could do it with a side of vegetables, only for it to come out with some very sad vegetables and squid on lettuce for the same price as the previous menu item that came with chips as well. After stating this, staff gave my client some chips. My schnitzel was disappointing as well. The sauce for the seafood topping was very strong in wine and the beans still tasted frozen. Quite poor considering the cost of $26. The only good part of the meal was the chips, even though they were cold. Food was very lack luster and the service could do with improvement. Will not be returning to this bistro.

Editing my earlier review because it's very different now. The staff have become more attentive and have backed me up a couple of times so I feel safe even when I come for a beer on my own. It's peaceful and friendly with a nice beer garden. For your standard local pub it's a solid option.

Dinner. - Paid for sauce didn't get any. Requested chips and salad. Got coleslaw and half a tomato. Food cold. After a 14hr working day, thought I'd treat myself and would have been more satisfied with 2min noodles. Very disappointing

Came for dinner for on a Saturday. We were attended to after two tables that came after us. The drinks (beer and cider) took 15 minutes to arrive, and after others who came after us. The same happened with our food. Food tasted alright, but was probably overpriced. Overall it took about 45 minutes from sitting down to getting our meal. A saving grace was an offer for another round of drinks on the house, but a more meaningful offer would have been a discount on the meal. If not for the offer, would have given 2 stars.

best chicken schnitzel I have ever had in my life one kg of succulent chicken enough for two people at 21dollars bargain. first place I have been to that doesn't charge for gravy Will be back for the Thursday steak and beer lunch
