Waited about 15mins to take a food order while staff just looked at us and ran away... we ended up leaving with out ordering. The pub was next to empty you think they would want the customers.

Venue has a pretty decent beer garden though there is no views of anything that you would normally have in one. It has a great stage for bands/dj's allowing it to be one of the better places to see a gig. If you like to play pool they have 6 pool tables so you can almost always get a game. Drinks are reasonably priced and food wont blow your socks off but is appropriately priced for a pub meal. Would go there again.

Utter dive, room from 1950s, bathroom from 19th century. It's got a yard outside which has DJ blasting medley of music from 70s onwards and about 5 bogans shouting amd stomping to the beat. I'm currently trying to sleep at 1am but have no chance. I can't see how they can expect to have guests and this embarrassing noise going on at same venue. I'm currently regretting my life choices, especially my decision to stay in this utter hole. Do yourself a favour and sleep in the car..

This place is great, live bands, dj, lots of pool tables and great atmosphere.
Always met great people here and the dance floor was almost always pumping!!
And you dont have to be a pool shark to hop to a table and play a game of pool because there are plenty of tables to go round

This hotel should be renamed McGuire's CBD ROACH motel. The place is disgusting! the rooms were old and unclean and there were cockroaches everywhere it said all rooms have a balcony or patio however the room I was put in did not have either. The menu was limited and with the cleanliness of the place I would not have risked my life eating here. I seen other guests that stayed here and they appeared to be big drug users by the look of them. The one good thing about the place was the locals were lovely, well most of them are the ones not on drugs are anyway. The staff are friendly however the owner is NOT! I heard him shouting at staff and complaining to customers which in my eyes is unprofessional.

The hotel was very clean. However a couple of hours after arriving there we found 2 dead cockroaches in the room and as we were taken up to our room the foyer and halfway smelt horrible but you could not smell it in the room. Was good for a 1 night stop over but not for any longer.

Shabby and dirty room and quilt however sheets were clean and bed comfy. My friend's mattress looked like someone had vomited on it. Too much noise filtering from pub downstairs. Having said all that, the food was surprisingly good and well priced. Eat there but don't sleep there.

Rooms could be a lot cleaner but you get what you paid for. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly. Nice balcony as well.

Place was disgusting. Don't stay the night here. Bedding was not changed before we arrived and room was filthy. Couldn't check out until 10 am and went up to double check we didnt leave anything in the room. Rooms had been "cleaned" Beds had been re-made but were still the same sheets , pillow cases and towels . ( same stains ) luckily we brought our own bedding. Girls that work at the pub were nice .

Only 3 stars for location due to me driving a heavy vehicle but actually is 5 stars as at night have the pub with pool tables down stairs night club not even 100m and if U just need a place to stay for the night the prices are very affordable and air-conditioning is a must (the aircon I had was a bit noisy) shower was so hot it was great but careful with the high temp water as this can scold anyone, but for cheap accommodation if U are on a budget ect not a bad place to spend a night when passing through but this place is not suitable to park trucks at all being located right in the heart of town, but the best thing is being surrounded by coffee shops when departing in the morning..... And that alone deserves an extra star 🌟

No air-conditioning in the room, fan didn't work either.. not a nice way to spend a night in the wet season in Mackay. Bed was rubbish, mattress was so thin I could feel the slats. Shower was the only positive. Staff were very friendly and helpful though.

Lady at the front was really lovely.
But, the room will suit someone with very low standards. It's noisy (thank God I had earplugs from the flight earlier), there's stains everywhere, even on the bed sheets (looked like mould), it's just by the road to no moment of peace, brown water in the tap that cleared after a minute, but the water had bits in it, so I skipped the morning shower, good AC, clean towels, overall a sleepless night and I can't say it's worth it for me. Location was close to the morning bus so it's the only reason I picked it. Next time, I'll take a taxi 😅

Just had a drink. Would be a lively place on weekends. Very well set up for a good night out with a crowd. Live music, plenty of service bars.
Needs maintenance!! Looking shabby. Great venue being neglected. Friendly staff.

It was the worst experience. I am not sure how they expect you to sleep in this room with this loud music, such a waste of money! And it is going to 2am. Do not come to stay in this place.

I stayed in a dorm room, $30 p.n. I had the room to myself, and the bathroom was contained. Basic fridge, TV and coffee and tea facilities. Everything was clean and comfortable. |I did stay friday night, and my room was directly above the beer garden/entertainment area, so it was loud until 1am, but I just went down and joined the fun. I wasnt planning on a second night, but as it was cheap and central, I stayed Saturday night too. ||Really gorgeous lovely helpful staff made my stay extra pleasant. Haven eaten here yet, but meals are cheap. Drinks are cheap too. I would stay again.||Very close to the Greyhound bus too

Initially I thought the place was great. Bit of a rip off really! Too many ridiculous rules & a $10 cover charge just to sing karaoke! Go up the road to other venues and get treated with much more respect and dignity

I liked the Heritage Building, lots of character. The Staff were lovely. The only draw back was the live music on the weekend that made it hard to sleep.
Just the loud music on the weekend.

I have stayed here 4 nights and in my opinion was a simple and cute hotel. I chose a dorm room with 5 beds but I have been alone there. The reception is next to the bar and the staff was really nice. On Friday and Saturday it was loud until 2 am but I went down and enjoyed some beers and the life music. Also on my last day after my checked out, the staff accepted to keep my stuff into the hotel until I could take it. I definitely recommend it.

I don’t mind CBD McGuires hotel because it’s so far the only pub I’ve found in Mackay that provides a somewhat decent dance.
I attended a Subconscious event and was pleased to find an open air dancefloor with friendly faces and a bar with modestly priced drinks.
That said, the outdoor decor could have a little more thought behind it, as it’d be nice to boogie in a visually appealing venue.
It’d also be nice to find a venue in Mackay that hosts decent tech house/ minimal tech djs... but you can’t ask too much of regional Queensland, can you.

I am a female solo traveler. I chose to stay here because of good reviews, cheap price for accommodation and the central location. However, I did not enjoy my stay as much as I had expected to.
Good points:
-Helpful, friendly and relaxed staff.
-Cheap accommodation
-Central location
- Cheap food in pub downstairs
Bad points:
-Dim and dingey room with musky smell
-Bathroom, specifically the shower, looked as though it hadn't been cleaned between guests and dripped constantly
-During the day, shouting, cursing and doors slamming(this could have been another guest)
-At night music in downstairs pub carried upstairs till 3am (if you cant fight it, join it)
-Cigarette burn holes in bedding
-Dirty and smelly refrigerator
-Staff communication
I, personally, would not stay here again.

Hi good meals close to city CBD, not far from the marina 60$a night for a single room good aircon ,tv , shower and toilet ,

Note: it is a pub and music does get played on weekend nights

Good to see a smaller club pulling through these tough times. Staff are friendly and polite. Thursday through to Saturday is a blast with the karaoke, if that isn't for you then have a game of pool. Gather some friends and go visit, you won't be disappointed

Excellent help from regular staff sorted out booking error and found me perfect room. Clean, decent .Definitely booking next stay here.

Bar staff checking me in were great. First room stunk of smoke. Not the kind of stink that you will get used to after a few minutes, no it stunk bad!! Asked for another room. Again, the staff were great. Second room did not stink so was a winner. Closed the door and a pre-historic sized cockroach crawls into the non functioning air con. This roach was huge!! This room with the non functioning air con but Jurassic Park roach only cost me $40. The mould/smoke stinking room with a functioning air con would have cost me $50. Also another great thing about these rooms is the ambiance of the pub below pumping through the floor and the soothing sounds of each minute noise one of my fellow room mates emanating from the neighbouring rooms. All in all, quite terrible. ||Last week I stayed at a room at the Metropolitan Hotel in Mackay for $50. The staff were very helpful, the room was quite clean, the bed was acceptably comfortable and there was very little noise from the pub or the next door rooms. ||||Stay there!

A cheap place to lay your head. Staff are nice but it is a "party pub" and the rooms are okay. It suited me as a stop over on my way up north.

15 minutes to sign in another 5 minutes to order a meal and drinks took another 5 minutes to get the drinks. Meals took about 20 minutes to come out. The crumbed chicken meal tasted like it had been cooked in off oil. When the meal was sent back after I had another person taste it they offered to replace it with another meal. After waiting another 15 minutes for the next meal to come out only to find it wasn't the replacement order something totally different. When we asked for our money back as we had run out of time they said we don't do refund but you can take the wrong meal that was cooked in the same off oil as a take away. Still waiting for the management to call🙄
