Mount Gambier Jens Hotel

We went there as a group from BrickGambier and the Beef Schnitzel Parmigiana I had was simply amazing. Very good sized meal and melt in your mouth stuff.

We reserved our table at Jens for 16 of us for dinner on Saturday night. The table was set up and ready waiting for our group to arrive. This restaurant is extremely popular so I really advise to reserve your table - whether it be for 2 people or 200 people to avoid disappointment. The place was packed with some tables of 2, some of 6 and some of over 20! The atmosphere was amazing! The dining areas are set up so they can quite comfortably seat large numbers of diners very comfortably. As a table of 16 we all went up to the service area to order our meals individually. Many places struggle with this and meals come out randomly... NOT Jens!! Our orders were made in our individual groups and separately paid for. Some of our group were behind other groups of people ordering from different tables. I was the last person to order from our table and when it was my turn to order the service staff asked me if there were any more orders for our table. The most amazing thing was that as each of us ordered from our table our dockets were held until the entire table had ordered. Only once our whole table had ordered was the order sent through to the kitchen. This meant that all of our orders were treated as one docket BUT the meals came out in order. To have our whole table receive all their meals together was amazing and this is something that many other places fail to achieve. This is something that I prefer when dining anywhere and I am super impressed when I receive this level of service. There is a hot and cold buffet included in a main meal order for you to help yourself. Beautiful and fresh salad and pasta salad, potato salad amd fruit. The hot buffet had potato bake, cheese veg, freshly baked bread rolls. It was extremely well maintained and immaculate. This place had well over 200 people dining here and to maintain a buffet at this level is amazing! Well done! The meals were beautiful. I had the BBQ baby back pork ribs which were divine! My partner had Pork chops with apple and plum sauce. He really enjoyed the pork chops but was a little disappointed that the sauces were served cold. But that was his only complaint. Two people on our table ordered the vegetable stir fry and they were disappointed with their meal - so I wouldn't recommend the stir fry!! But that is ok because there is a fabulous and extensive menu which includes starters, entrees, main meals, kids menu, desserts and a daily specials board. Open for Lunch and Dinner. The service staff here are amazing. Once we had finished eating our plates were cleared efficiently. Our table was always cleared of empty glasses. The service staff must be used to being that busy because they made their jobs look effortless. You are all awesome!! There is a fully licensed bar with a huge selection of beers on tap along with all the usual alcohol and non alcohol beverages. There is also a full sports bar and TAB in a separate area, as well as a gaming room in another separate area well away from the dining areas. Which is fabulous because there is no noise coming from the pokies. Always a massive plus! Jens Hotel is a historical building here in Mount Gambier directly across the road from the Mount Gambier Town Hall. The building is absolutely beautiful and they have maintained its history. When you are there be sure to look up at the ceilings and take in all of the historic architecture. It is glorious. Well done to all of the staff at Jens!! You are all super stars. I HIGHLY recommend visiting Jens and seeing for yourselves exactly what I mean. If I could give more stars I would!!

Went for lunch, had a beef schnitzel and chips, thought price was reasonable. Open salad bar was ok. Meal finally arrived it was the worst beef schnitzel I have ever had. Could not eat hardly Any of it. It smelt wrong, looked wrong and tasted even worse.. Mushroom gravy was horrible it was so thick and gluggy. Would not recommend. The one star is for the salad.

Went for dinner, quick service even though they were busy. Very large meals, everyone enjoyed the meals (8 people).

Very poor quality of food. I do not recommend this hotel. Looks like the chefs do not have an idea about food presentation, quality, cooking time.

Very disappointing. Rump steak was very thin, very well done (ordered medium) and full of gristle. Would have given 0 stars, but the buffet salads were good. Don’t order the steak.

They have great food, good service, friendly staff definitely suggest going there for dinner

The meals are worth what you pay for. Big meals and tasty, beautiful. Compliments to the head chef and kitchen staff. The only thing I can pick on was the waitresses service was a little slow. Half the table had received their meals whilst the other half including a child had to wait for their meals to come out. Not sure if thats the oversee'ers job or what, but thats the only dampener of the night. My first time being there too. Atmosphere was great. Busy dining room. Oh and one more thing. I noticed outside the building had some cosmetic work happening on the pub, but trying to find the entrance was hard. Better Signage would improve this.

The best pork chops I've had in a long time

Such beautiful service. Immy was so helpful and kind. The entire experience was incredible. The food was FABULOUS! Thank you for making our first trip to Mount Gambier so lovely.

Stayed 4 nights and considered it an excellent location. Close to the RSL, which served West End on tap. Jens doesn't. Bar staff at Jens could be friendlier. Never gave great service, lacked smiling, and always continued talking to another staff member or someone else when they served. A training course in customer service is warranted. It's an old-fashioned pub lacking old customer service.

Simple meals but good. Hubby's steak cold in rhe middle and more rare than medium rare which he asked for. Finding this a lot - must be that the meat is kept in fridge rather than room temp .

Rump steak was amazing so was the garlic prawns worth every penny 🤤🤤🤤

Probably the best Pub meal we have had and the Staff were amazing Salad and veggies bar help yourself was a bonus . Definitely be back on our next trip into Mt Gambier

Please don't eat here. We are currently taking turns using the bathroom. Terrible stomach pains seem to be the symptom that each person in our group is experiencing after having dinner here. Here's a breakdown of our meals: 1. The prawns in the garlic prawns were prepared from frozen. The sauce was worse than jar sauce. It had the consistency of custard. 2. The pumpkin soup did not taste like pumpkin. It had a burnt taste to it. It was basically flavoured water. Flavour unknown. 3. Vermicelli noodles should be clear with a soft texture. These were not. They were undercooked and hard. It was like eating 2 minute noodles straight out of the packet. 3. The schnitzel didn't taste fresh. It was chewy and really thick. The main meals were all near the $30 mark. Like I said previously, please don't eat here.

Menu isn't the best and the meals were average, they did used to do an amazing carbonara which was why we went there but they've taken it off the menu. We went as a small group for our Christmas breakup and 2 people got food poisoning from the chicken pasta.

Love the place would be better if you had Harrison working there instead of the globe

Ladies lunch, food was nice, Menu a bit narrow. Finding a staffer to give our order to was disappointing, there was quite a queue by the time somebody came out from the kitchen. Dining room is comfy and calm. Staff friendly enough too. We will return.

Jen’s was recommended to us by the local Taxi Driver. Wow, the meals were generous and the flavours. I had a ½ serve of The Roast of the Day, and there was more meat on the plate as a ½ serve than I’ve had on a full serve. Whoever was making the gravy is a maestro. I haven’t had gravy that good since my Grandmother passed. Would definitely recommend Jen’s for a meal and a drink.

I would leave zero stars if I could. The food was not even mediocre for the price and to make it even worse it is not even close to special. I ordered Chef's special lamb shank and was a disaster. Cold and frozen from inside and didnt tasted fresh at all. Asked to replace it, chef simply reheated the meal and served back with extra mashed potatoes. On complaining, I was told "Sorry about that". Left the place and will never go back. Dont waste your money try other options guys!!

Had a few beers and a meal here. Good service. It certainly gets busy in the restaurant. Beautiful building full of period character. Good selection of beers, all ice cold. They have a fixed menu and specials on. Loved the lamb Rogan josh.

Great pub and bistro with delicious food and friendly service. All meals are great value and the open salad bar makes every meal a feast. We really enjoyed our visit here and we will be back. Check their Facebook page for different specials throughout the week.

Great food , good price and good service. the oysters were maybe the biggest I’ve ever had. Mixed grill was pretty good. Red Rib & steak was a good deal too. Good cold beer and a nice cab sav with the main. Recommend venue.

Great food at very reasonable price. Went back two days later, to make sure wasn’t a ‘one off’, and great meal again. Complimentary salad and veggies bar with excellent variety.

During a recent visit to Mt Gambier, my family, friends, and I had the pleasure of dining at Jen's Hotel, following a recommendation from a local acquaintance. The experience was nothing short of exemplary. The pub fare, including the fish and chips, oysters, pork ribs, and calamari, was of the highest quality, with portions that were notably generous, ensuring even the children's meals were substantial. The value for money was exceptional, reflecting a chef who is both skilled and passionate. Additionally, the selection of beers on tap complemented the meals admirably. Despite a reduced staff on a public holiday, the service remained commendable. I wholeheartedly endorse Jen's Hotel for those seeking culinary delight in Mt Gambier.

Delicious salt and pepper squid served super quick and the bloke behind the bar was very friendly! Nothing but good service.

Beautiful, affordable accommodation, has been vamped/updated and I would give it 9 out of 10. Would of got 10 out of 10 but would suggest a full length mirror as the bathroom sink mirror just didnt cut it. Expecially when dressing up to go out. We stayed in room 1, not sure if other rooms are the same or not, also come summer you may need a blind on the very high left window in the living area. Maybe just put blind from window beneath to the top window, if long enough. Also had a fridge, but would of been nice to have a toaster, plates, cutterly etc. Similar to other Motels. Did have kettle, coffee, sugar and milk and 2 coffee cups, 2 glasses. Hope the feedback helps. Otherwise an awsome place to stay, beautiful heating, has aircon. The wardrobe provided is great, place to hang things, also to put ya suit case etc together. Was very handy. The meals down stairs were a 10 out of 10 for sure. Excellent service also. Close to everythink. They did inform us you can get breaky across the street if ya want, as they dont do breaky. So there was everything you needed there, being the main street.
