Well.. I had taken my bad review down after trying again and had a decent experience with the staff members that night, some weeks ago. Decided to try again on Saturday 6th January. Not happy at all. Made me regret taking my initial review down. Firstly, count any money you get out, they won't and will conveniently "forget" to give it all to you, forcing you to ask for your own money... Wouldn't have had to ask for the rest of the money if the staff member had simply counted it out when handing it over. Guess I know where my money would have ended up as he did the tills that night... On top of that I don't understand how the price of a drink can change depending on who serves you. To the two gentlemen working that night, it's very telling that you were polite to me every time I was served but rude to my spouse. To the manager, don't bother asking me to contact you. My PTSD and anxiety make that almost impossible. I've spoken to multiple older customers that no longer go there and they say it's gone downhill since the previous manager left and now go elsewhere and I agree.

We had a group of 4 adults. The room was wonderfully set out and clean with a welcoming atmosphere. The young lady behind the bar and young gentleman that bought our meals out were absolutely wonderful. Sadly the meal was a big let down, the chicken parmigiana's were both burnt to a very very dark brown/black and very dried out, the meals were small for the price paid and the salad dressing was repulsive, personally I'd rather just salad without any dressing.

The atmosphere is always good the staff friendly and helpful.
The food always excellent and the seniors meals plenty on the plate at a very low price.

Terrible experience with the staff, one girl was so rude we weren’t welcomed in at all and were asked to leave the car park before we even stepped foot in the door to check in. The suburb was very dodgey and the car park was not great either. I have never left a bad review before but this experience was horrible. Tried to charge us a cancellation fee despite being kicked out. We left and found somewhere else that is perfect.

Staff were friendly and welcoming and happy too help with anything and answered all questions i had. I will be coming back to the mowbray hotel in the future

Schnitzel with garlic chilli prawns. Over cooked prawns (cold), no chilli that I could taste. No sauce on the schnitzel and half hot chips. Shouldn't of gone back as same ordinary meals.

Room was tiny with just a wash basin. Shared bathroom and kitchen. Photos very deceiving. Info on Expedia not clear . As there were 3 of us we could not stay but refund was refused. Very unhappy!!

Room was ok, but the kettle to boil water looked really really dirty. Parking facilities and dining available. The most annoying thing is the location of the room and the area where hotel couldn’t sleep well because of the noises of vehicles almost whole
night.They need to work on the hotel window glass.

Overall, it is worth it, but would be nice if the other customers in the opposite rooms weren’t noisy. Hotel should limit the number of guests with room. For example, the people in my adjacent and opposite rooms have more guests than the actual bed. So noisy all night until morning.

Never again. Grilled fish mornay was just a half cold fish the sauce was mozzarella cheese slightly grilled, frozen vegetables, just awful. What happened tonight usually ok.?

It used to be great, but not anymore. The food is tasteless. I believe they have changed the chef or may not have one.

I purely stayed here for the price, I just needed the night, knowing full well the accommodation sat above a functioning pub, what I wasn't expecting was a complete lack of service from the facilitators of the accommodation, got my room key, let myself in, inspected the room which was requiring maintenance (but, again, I wasn't expecting much) the problem was other patrons who were evidently inebriated and playing obnoxiously loud country music, there was also the use of illicit drugs onsite as I could clearly smell and identify the drug use, this occured into the night until 3 AM when the music significantly decreased in volume, what I was disappointed about was a lack of presence or supervision from staff to occasionally police their accommodation area and ensure patrons were following their rules, it was clearly signed that noise needed to be reduced by 9 PM with other patrons being considered.
I would strongly suggest going elsewhere, even if you find this place to be your last resort, or sleep in your car as I was seriously contemplating.
Again, I had some indication of what I was paying for, but the considerable lack of attention to their accommodation guests was evident that night and disappointing, even with a low cost accommodation, you still have the right to be able to sleep and not be subjected to appalling behaviors of other, inconsiderate, individuals.

Great staff, great pub. Cheap and cheerful accommodation, don't expect valet parking but rooms were clean, quiet, good shower and telly, you can't go wrong. Good sports bar and and a nice outside area to enjoy a cold one. Big bistro with plenty of pub favorites.

Great budget hotel, will stay again. Excellent value for money. Rooms and amenities very clean, staff helpful, comfortable beds, surprisingly quiet rooms. Location is also excellent- great variety of retail and food options within a block or two from the hotel, and you get 10% off your meal if you choose to eat in.

Friendly staff but no food served after 8pm.
Staying in the rooms is an experience you don't need.
Lovely old pub that the locals love I'm sure but the accommodation either needs money put into it or condemned.

Due to the emergency occasion, I have drove all the way north from Hobart to pick up my friend at hospital and I have chose my stay with Mowbray hotel, the same hotel where my friend is staying. Then bizarre things started happening.
The hotel did not accept late check-in (after ten o'clock), but they were very pleasant to confirm my reservation which was made close to ten o'clock.
I haven't received any check-in instructions from the hotel since the booking confirmed. The only contact was from that I ringed them. A men who claimed he was the hotel manager said that the hotel policy stipulated check-in period had been passed, and refused to provide any effective help.
I can understand when there are times when a hotel cannot accommodate a late check-in. However, if you are accepting the late booking order, especially when there is a so-called last check-in time. It should not be difficult for you to find that the booking was not far from your last check-in time stipulated in your policy stated on the call. I was very puzzled under this situation, no contact the guest, remain silent, and refuse the guest to check in when the countdown was up. This is the first ever services that I have had, disregard for a customer's rights.
I respect that you may have restrictions on customer from cancelling bookings, check-in time or refunds, but you don't need to treat me with these awful services.
To be honest, if you don't contact me, I will think that you may have prepared other check-in methods. Guess I could check in by myself without your manual service? Very common sense, right? If this is not common sense practice in hotels, it may be because of the misunderstanding caused by most hotels I stay in, because they will not do this and neither contact guests nor provide other check-in instructions.
If you could make a little contact, I might find a way to arrive as soon as possible, or book another hotel, instead of living on the street at night.
It was a really helplessness and disappointed experience with Mowbray hotel. Anyway, thank you for your service and special thanks to the hotel manager who wished me good luck.

Disgusting
Stayed here as a last minute option as nothing else was available. I was a bit apprehensive as staying in a pub hotel is never a good idea unless you’re desperate.
Let’s just say, cheap price = cheap people.
We were kept awake all night as we were in room 1 next to the staircase and doors were slamming ALL NIGHT. There were a few bogan families here with their disgusting kids and all night we could hear doors slamming, drunk people shouting, someone was up at 1am having a chat with her friend after reporting a toilet being dirty (it was that loud we heard every detail of her not very interesting life) and yes, the toilets were disgusting.
We also think a couple was having a domestic as all we could hear was loud banging and shouting till a male left the room shouting then leaving the premises. 3am woke up again and we could smell weed. Then was woken up at 6am as someone had set the fire alarm off (probably smoking inside)
So thanks a lot. We have a long drive today with about 3 hours sleep each!

Boy, what you get for ‘pub accommodation’ sure has changed! Mowbray offers the ideal budget-priced option in north Tassie - freshly painted rooms, cleaned daily; very comfortable beds; big TV in each room. Shared bathroom is freshly kept and modern.
And the bistro may have the best cheesy-garlic bread in all the Apple isle! Bar offers classic Aussie drinking environment, with friendly staff; gaming room is clean and modern, if that’s your thing.

Booked a 2 Twin Rooms, surprisingly it is smaller than a standard Single Room, Plus there is no Toilet in the Room. Common Toilet is very far away and the facilities are very poor. We booked 2 Rooms; TV was not working in either of them. Customer Service is very poor; we waited for 30 minutes in the Reception to get the Room Key.

Amazing food and even better staff! Definitely recommend going here if your looking for a great atmosphere and lovely staff! Or even just for a sneeky beer or 2 😉

A few issues with staying at Mowbray hotel:
1. No photos provided when booking so shocked after arrival to find the room is small with not even a table or chair to place your bags or luggage on. Room is quite bare.
2. Room facing a busy intersection where I can hear the annoying traffic light pedestrian signals beeping non stop 24/7 and cars going by at all hours. Very disruptive to sleep and gives me a headache. Not quiet or peaceful to get a good nights sleep after a long day. Not to mention the room that was provided was opposite men's bathroom
3. Facilities provided include shared bathroom with only ONE toilet, shower and bath.
4. Bathroom issues include very low shower pressure and the hot and cold water systems are not working properly so you get scalded if someone is using the toilet and flushes or someone switches on the taps in the bathtub. I got scalded a few times during my stay
5. Old windows that don't close fully so the sounds from traffic seep in.
6. Room has innumerous fly/bug infestations which have been very annoying to have to deal with. Seems like from another review, the insect issues have been present for months or long time with nothing done about it.
7. Housekeeping is not done properly. Housekeeping staff have not bothered to change sheets, vaccum the carpets or change the towels like the manager informed me they need to be doing. Instead old stained bedsheets were made up and old, used towels were hung inside the wardrobe door..!?
A few positives are it's cheaper than other hotels and some of the staff are nice and willing to help. Female manager and female assistant manager were both professional and polite. Can't say the same for the high handed red haired staff member
