Wonderful property! The room was clean and the shared bathrooms look like they have been recently upgraded. The communal kitchen was well stocked and there is coffee and tea as well 😊 You can walk to all the tourist sights and beaches as well as cafes, restaurants and shopping. Every staff member I interacted with was SO nice, professional and helpful making for an amazing stay.

We had the best experience with Oriental Hotel over the weekend. Keel helped us organise 40+ pizzas for our engagement party and we understand this was something they went out of their way for, and we couldn't be more grateful. Keel organised with my fiancé to have all the pizzas ready for 2 separate pick ups during the evening, and we had so many complements throughout the night on how great they all tasted. Including our diary and gluten free friends were pleased! Thanks again team! Claire & James

We are two 21-year-old girls who stayed at this hotel for one night. The bar and pizza place downstairs were great and the room and bathrooms were reasonable for the price we payed (although the showers had a habit of going from boiling to freezing to boiling again….). The main downside to our stay was how unsafe we felt. The other guests were loud and left their doors open all day and night, playing music and making loud comments when we would walk past (which we had to do get to the stairs and bathrooms). They even came to our door and pretended to be room service. We felt that the staff should have better monitored their guests and at the very least ask them to keep their doors shut and the noise levels down. We understand that the hotel cannot control how guests act but we felt that no steps were taken to ensure the space was welcoming and safe for everyone. We wouldn’t recommend staying here for more than one night, especially as a young woman.

Very loud noise from bar below, although they stopped around 22:00, but for the kids sleep it did not help. Ceiling paint is loose, windows that cannot close, that looked a bit depressing. In Booking it was not directly clear that the toilet and bathroom is shared. For a drink with less noise you better go cross the street. Further it looks ok.

Very cheap prices but that doesn't reflect on the experience needed a quick stay on our road trip. Nice little pub good pizza and rooms are clean and as to be expected for the price. Nor to fat walk from the beach nice little lookout and rock pools to swim in plus the beach is nice. A minute walk from some small shops and cafes woukd stay again

The pizza is the driving force in this place. I have never set foot inside, but have eaten from here over a half dozen times. Try the salads, they compliment the pizzas. Can take up to half an hour for an order, but can also be as quick at 15 minutes on a slow evening. The outdoor seating on Bull St looks good for summer nights.

Oriental Hotel is conveniently situated in Bruce Street Cooks Hill. Tariff very reasonable, if you are prepared to share clean toilets & bathrooms, with other guests. Friendly front bar, great pizzas served fresh, and walking distance to Darby Street, Honeysuckle, CBD & the great beaches.

One of my favorite venues for pizza and beer! Such a quirky space, it's really comfortable, the patrons and staff are always really easy going. Good selection of tap beer, pizza is always completely delicious, reasonable prices and fairly quick service. Can get busy but that's cos it's such a good spot. Facilities are old but pritty clean. I can Highly recommend

Nice pub, just off Darby Street, in the exciting inner City Newcastle suburb of Cooks Hill. Travelling alone on this occasion I was happy enough sharing a bathroom for the very reasonable tariff this hotel offers. Room itself was a great size, with a TV and high pressed tin ceilings. There was a common area across the hallway with fridge and cooking facilities. Bathrooms and toilets well maintained and comfortable. Only problem for me was the inconsiderate, messy group in the room beside me. Throughout my three night stay they regularly slammed their door, occupied the better of the two showers each day (0630-0830), and frequently failed to find the bins with their hand towels. Not the hotels fault of course. Bed was very comfortable, the variety of pizzas tasty, the front bar inviting - with a good variety of beers on tap, and the staff personable and lovely. Location perfect for walking access to cafes, CBD, beaches, public transport (even the laundromat). Would stay here again if travelling solo.

Nice and comfortable hotel for a short stay in Newcastle. The stuff was very friendly. You can get pizza at the restaurant and it’s just 5 minutes from the beach by Car. Go there!

Known as the Ori to locals, this pup is a cracker. The pizza is very good, and the pavement seating is a delight. It would be nice to see some more of the local independent breweries on tap. Fantastic that the venue is pokies and TAB free. The regulars are friendly and the staff helpful.

I stopped in for a writing session with some mates. The Oriental was a fantastic host for our small event, and we were all very impressed! The food was lovely, prices reasonable, and the staff were incredibly friendly and approachable. I found the design and decor to be quite charming, creating a relaxed intimate space for guests, without feeling pretentious at all. Will definitely be back!

I needed to try "Newcastle's Best Pizza" and it's safe to say it isn't. It's good pizza, don't get me wrong, but it's nowhere near the best in and around Newcastle. We had the potato and rosemary which was really nice, a good balance of sweet onion and toppings. I really wanted blue cheese on it but they didn't have it. I feel like the pizza needs something like that. The Margherita was very tasty, probably one of the best I have had. Seemed like it had truffle oil on it, although not listed, so that may have just been my taste deceiving me. We also had cheese and herd squares, they were decent. I'm not sure if they offer share plates, we certainly weren't and to me that's a major flaw in any service point. It feels like a takeaway shop with tables if you want to eat there. Would I go back, sure, if I'm in the area and craving pizza and don't want to drive 10-15 minutes to my favourite pizza shop but this wouldn't be a place I would go out of my way to go to again.

If neighbourhood pubs existed inside a bell curve, then the Oriental Hotel would be three standard deviations away from the mean. Charismatic and independent. Music is on point - think Aretha Franklin remixes, Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Margherita Mondays are a highlight for the value purchaser.

Great budget option. Clean and basic rooms. Noisy until after live music at 21.30/22.00. Extremely basic kitchen- basically just a microwave and a sink. But wonderful pizza downstairs.

For the price and a one night stay, happy with this hotel. Definitely not soundproof but the room and bed felt/looked pretty clean! Pizza in the hotel was delicious. The check in at 3pm is very strict as the doors are locked and there is no front desk until then. Bit of a walk to the each but 2 streets from the hotel is a great road with shops, bars and cafes.

Clean, comfortable and no frills, but excellent atmosphere, great location and a good vibe. It was old style, but quaint and what I expected. The pub has a charm about it and is obviously a very popular local meeting place. Nothing stands out as an issue, maybe the bed could have a but more comfortable. But it wasn’t a big deal. I wasn’t expecting 5 star. You have shared facilities and that can be a challenge. But I knew that before I went. Just get your mindset ready for that.

Called in for a Sunday lunch. Friendly bar service, really enjoyed the Pirate Life Stout (reminded me of the old english real ales) & had some great pizzas. Just a great little pub in a quiet spot.

Best GF pizza in Newcastle? Without a doubt. Regular pizzas are also great and it's a great spot for beer and music. The Ori attracts a pretty trendy crowd and it's notable for not having any pokies. If a week goes by that we haven't popped in here its because we are out of town on holiday!

As to be expected normal above floor accommodation in a pub. Shared communal showers, toilets and kitchen. Terrific nights sleep. Beds were ever so comfy and shower was superb. Staff who checked us in were so accommodating and friendly going the extra mile. Thanks guys.
