Zero stars! Abusive & unreasonable publican, insulting & verbally attacking women & elderly men in front of a crowd without any provocation. Worst experience I have had in public. Local respectable people at a community event, absolutely no reason to speak to people like that. Responsibility of a liquor licensee is to diffuse situations not to escalate them. Horrible experience!

Wow! Great little pub. American guy behind the bar was awesome. Beer was cold. Lunch was bloody awesome - huge meal at a great price. Best pub meal we've had for ages. Nice country pub atmosphere. Well done.

What a disgrace. Looking forward for a evening nice pub meal. No such luck. We were told the only meal available was pizza & come back in 1/2 hour. The female bar tender was surly and her co bartender was drunk. Obviously it's ony there for a lot of locals to get drunk. The only food in Herberton is the Jacaranda Cafe. Very obligiging but only open for lunch. Forget dinner in Herberton. Not good. When will you realise... the only ppl with money are tourists and you need to cater for them. Wake up

We walked in looking forward to a good old fashioned pub lunch and it was all downhill from there. Ordered hot roast meat rolls which was the pick of the bunch from tiny menu, other punters given table numbers we were told we didn’t need one so an hour later when our meal came out the poor waiter didn’t know where any order was going. The gravy in the rolls was old and had set hard and was the worst I’ve ever had. The table was filthy and the whole place needs a good clean and tidy up, we won’t be back. PS. Spoke to some locals who said they never eat there as the food is terrible, much better options nearby in Millaa Millaa.

We recently had dinner at the Herberton Hotel and my only advice would be not to eat anything before arriving. The meals were huge, this is the first time I have ever seen a meal beat my husband! It was a good old style pub menu with the hospitality to match!

We had the prawn burgers for lunch. Delicious and well presented. The lady taking out orders was friendly and efficient. The bathrooms were clean and all the seating area was cleaned as patrons used it

We didn't stay but had great big meals beautifully presented and stacked up high. Great sides with the two of the best tasting pork chops cooked perfectly. My wife had the calamari rings of which were too many, nice and tender.

This is apparently of the oldest pubs in Queensland and was bought a few years ago. The new owner is renovating the place, so mind your step. Very friendly staff and frequented by locals who are thrilled to share their experiences of the friendly ghosts who apparently frequent the hotel. Good prices for beer, which is hard to find now. There are no meals served here. Is pet friendly as well.

This is a charming old wooden pub dating back to the early pioneer days on the frontier. It should be a major attraction with tourists. Unfortunately, when we visited there were only a couple of locals at the bar. Tempted by a 'ginger beer on tap' sign, we ordered a couple of them. The price was $8 and they were loaded with ice, even though I asked for a little. I wasn't impressed with the business strategy.

The meals where great in size and very quick even though the pub was busy. We had Pork chops with chips and salad. Crumbed steak chips and salad. And crumbed fish with chips and salad. |Great prices also! |We will be back. |

The beer was cold and frothy and the service was fine. That's all a bloke can ask for.

Just found out that the Royal Hotel has pizzas every Friday evening, in addition to their regular dinner menu. We tried the Thai chicken and the Hawaiian pizzas. Excellent value at $17 each and very filling - more than one person could eat at a single sitting For those who don't like a lot of cheese, I suggest they indicate their preference when placing the order.||||While they are available either to eat there or take-away, I recommend eating there while still hot and fresh along with any of the wide range of drinks available.

If you want an experience with real friendly locals in a 100 plus year old pub - this is the place! Best value accommodation and the biggest meals in NQ! The rooms and bathrooms were clean and freshly painted and the continental breakfast supplied had a great selection. Exceptional place to base yourself to see the tablelands.

If you are travelling in Herberton area drop into the Historic Royal Hotel, it's currently being renovated by new owner and offering entertainment at weekends.|Classic old timber hotel, great photo op for historic cars out the front I reckon.|We didn't stay but had a drink, it's currently being renovated and will look great when it's finished.

If I could give a zero I would. Food unedited, after an hour and a half wait. Was told if we wanted water to go across the road a buy it. They had run out of food on the menu, kept needing to change orders. Filthy. Rude staff. Inedible Food. Terrible service.

Great staff and a friendly vibe. Tasty gourmet pizzas and icy cold beer on tap. We will be back. It's all you need after a long day of hiking the hills around town.

Great Pub Got there at 11am , the chef great young bloke started cooking a hour early . Great steaks great salads . For a little country town pub they do it better than the flash hotels in the big smoke .

Great people fantastic food , kids and pet friendly. Staff are wonderful . Served your favourite drink swiftly, great music pumping.. Come along and check it out.

Friendly staff but the worst pizza I have ever had. I was hungry but could barely at 1 slice. I think I am now sick

Don’t try to make a phone booking Or contact the pub you will not be able to find the number as the number on all advertising sites is wrong even the number I photo off for front of the pub wouldn’t dial through. Ordered fish and chips 20 minutes later came out and said they have no fish and chips then ordered some crumb steaks said they haven’t got enough crumb steaks so we had to change the order again some wanted the chicken Kiev sorry run out of chicken Kiev. .Have been waiting one hour for our crumb steaks now they have arrived they are so thin a lot of them are overcooked and dry and cold to warm not much steak in them either. Most of the steaks were taken home for someone’s dog and that’s what they were fit for we did leave one on the table totally untouched meal it wasn’t edible and cold as I said. When we got there we Ordered cold water they had to go across the road and buy some. Meals came out after an hour except for the toasted sandwiches which was sitting on the bar with flies on we went out to ask where they were and then the waitress bought them out for us flies an all. These steak sandwiches cost nine dollars they had a thin bit of cheese through them and a little bit of chicken flat as terrible but as the ladies were diabetics they needed to eat had no choice as we have been waiting an hour and 15 minutes for these. The barmaid waitress was sitting outside talking to some guy and having a smoke,true she was working there by herself but no excuse for not having no communication between kitchen and barmaid to bring food out. I asked everyone how they enjoyed their meal there was only one good comment that was from the beef roll one person out of 11 very poor. I’ve been to this pub a few times and had great meals but this time I recommended it to my friends and what a disappointment I was totally embarrassed even sitting at the tables haven’t been wiped down still have grease on beer on and all the other customers which were dinning there in the last hour 2hrs plates were still left on the table with flies buzzing around.

DO NOT GO HERE! The owner and staff are abusive and will get physically abusive for no reason.

Decided on a whim to stay the night here with my wife and small child. Arrived about 2 hours after check-in and our room had not been made/prepared. Female staff member was very apologetic and accommodating though. We were placed in another room. Our new room needed more pillows and another towel. Was told by same staff member that another staff member would fix the issue asap. After checking several times I was told that I should just go and take what I need from other rooms. Didn't seem quite right. Definitely had the impression that there was some communication problems among the staff. To her credit, the female staff member did everything in her power to help us while she was busy with the front bar. The room was in in desperate need of repairs. The door knob didn't work. Could only close and lock it with the separate lock. Carpets were dirty. Beds appeared shabbily made with old, stained bedding. The towels were also very old and stained. The old window was a glass louver with a full panel missing letting in the cold night air and bugs. The single bed was missing a leg and was propped up with old motel bibles. This bed also desperately needed replacing as all the innersprings were collapsed. An old closed-up door in the room was also not sealed up properly letting in light and cold air. There was an old pedestal fan covered in black dust with a broken base. I put this in the wardrobe as it kept falling down. The shared bathroom had lots of spider webs (with spiders) covering the light and wall fittings. There was a dirty, soaked floor mat that appeared at least 5 years old. Water pressure and temperature in shower was fine. The entire level with the rooms was generally unclean. There was a shared kitchenette that had a small fridge and a mix of foods I assume were left by previous patrons. Despite the signs warning patrons that smoking was prohibited, I saw many cigarette butts lying around the veranda. We had dinner here.as every other business in town was closed. Meals were acceptable. When I checked out in the morning there were zero staff to be seen anywhere. This place definitely has old world character, and I like that stuff, however management really need to lift their standards. Again, credit to the female staff member that did her best despite the circumstances. I would only consider returning if they made BIG improvements.

Called the hotel to check they were serving lunch. A man answered the phone, confirmed that lunch was being served until 2pm. Party of 4 x adults and 4 x children drove to hotel for lunch and arrived within 20 minutes at 1:20pm only to be told by a lady … no further meals available. So family turns back around to Atherton where they just came from. Very poor experience.

Booked online with booking.com and when we came to the hotel after dawn & a long day, they said they never received a booking: „we don’t check booking.com or our emails“. The lady then just left and we where surprised and upset without knowing what to do. Luckily some guests in the pub were listening and helped us to organise a different place to stay.|So the only good thing at this place where the friendly guests - for sure not the rude and unhelpful staff or the poor organisation skills

Bed covers stained and dirty and no door on toilet exposing you to whoever else is in your room. Driveway and parking area over grown with long grass. Would not stay again. Town is ok if your only there to see the historical village then keep going to the next town.
