We required any early access to the room due to a family funeral Rydges was able to accommodate our request not only for us but for at least four other rooms on the day. The room was clean and well presented and the staff were very helpful, thank you.

We got suite one bedroom apartment. Washing machine not working sorry board, and dishwasher not working not even a iron board facility. Over all okay but felt like motel room not Hotel. Little bit uncomfortable. Beds are not that comfortable, no extra quilts kept in the rooms.

This hotel is failing and very very tired and not anywhere near close to Rydges standard. We have been Rydges clients for over 35years! Rydges Suites Mackay Room 312 Washing Machine didn’t work reception clearly knew as it had been tagged for a while sent up maintenance man who let us know that it should have had a notice on it. He put one on. In this room the safe and the shaving light in the bathroom also didn’t work. WE moved ourselves to new allocated Room 604. The dryer part of the washing machine in this room didn’t work as it drips water back into the washing therefore washing is left damp. The shaving mirror in this room also doesn’t work. The biggest issue in this room is the carpet/clothing moth (𝑻𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒂𝒈𝒂 𝒕𝒂𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒛𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒂) infestation which have clearly been there for sometime as they’ve eaten the carpet and they were apparent until we were in the room for awhile and we opened the curtains they then started hatching and flying around everywhere. Receptions answer was to spray the room whilst we were in there! Reception on checkout gave a 20% discount after I asked to speak to the manager who apparently there is no duty manager on-site on a Sunday. She said she was authorized to fix our problems but then called and asked for the photo that I showed her of the carpet moth damage to be sent through for the 20% discount. As she needed it to allow the 20% which was mentioned before I even showed her the photo of the damage to the carpet. Couldn’t housekeeping photograph it or the maintenance staff on duty. Why does this even have to be highlighted by a customer??? She also said she could give it in the second 2 nights as there was only a light problem on the first again I had to point out it was the broken washing machine behind the reason we moved rooms not the light - that was just one of the many problems but not the major one. I don’t have a lot of faith that any will be rectified. When you book a room you expect everything to work in it! Especially at a Rydges hotel. Clearly there are many policies and procedures lacking at this accommodation. The manager will call me on Monday 27/2/23?! Surprise this NEVER happened. We have many photographs of this and other issues as well as videos of all the moths and I will be sharing them now no one has bothered to respond to me.

The room was really big compared to most hotels, clean and the staff were welcoming and helpful. Good location for getting about Mackay. Definitely recommended for those wanting a clean nice big hotel in Mackay, ate at the restaurant downstairs and the food was really good.

Super quick check in with three staff on at the peak period. This is a dated hotel. I stayed in a studio fronting the street. The seals on the windows and some of the latches were broken. Lucky me, there was a bagpipe rehearsal in the hall outside until 9pm. The air conditioner was not functioning properly I suspect because previous guests had tried to counter the broken windows and heat by cranking the a/c. This aside, the stay was comfortable, safe, and I slept pretty well.

Such a disappointing stay. I arrived early in Mackay and needed to get ready to attend a wedding so dropped in at the hotel at 8am to request an early check-in (at midday preferably). The girl who served me seemed a bit confused, but told me she'd note my request and asked me to check back in at midday. Midday comes, I return to the hotel and the next staff member I interact with says there is no record of my request. I ask if there is any chance of an early check-in again, she also seems confused. I ask her to call housekeeping which she does, but just asks on the status of the room I'm booked for, not if there are any other available rooms she could move me to. I then ask her if I can swap to an already cleaned room, even noting that I'd take a downgrade. She heads back to the office and returns, just saying no, and that I'd need to wait. I then ask if there is somewhere I can get ready, like a public bathroom, and she says no, no suggestion of where I could go. I understand that an early check-in is not my right, but the staff were so unhelpful and disinterested and did not provide adequate reasoning as to why I could not swap to another room. I did end up getting in to my room 30 mins before check-in, and I am grateful for this. The room itself was very dated and tired. The lighting was so dim in the room and bathroom. There was a magnifying mirror with an inbuilt light, but the light was not working... The bathroom was quite bad. There was a lot of mould in the shower. I thought perhaps this was because of its age so I touched it to see if it would budge and it came off easily. Clearly the shower had not been properly cleaned in a while...There were refillable bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash, but the body wash was completely empty. On the morning of check out, a housekeeping staff member knocked on my door two hours before check out, to confirm that I was checking out...this seems like a very odd practice. FYI - car parking is also not guaranteed, there are not enough spaces for all guests and the carpark is managed on a first-in basis. There are limits on time spent parked on the street Mon- Fri so make a plan for your parking if required. The only positive I can find about Rydges Mackay is the location. It's right above the dining precinct. The whole building is tired and none of the staff seem to have any pride in the place. I've stayed in Mackay a lot and there are many other places that are of a much higher standard for a comparable or lower price. Go somewhere else.

Staff are great, appreciate the help from Crystal and others at the front desk, they go above and beyond. The hotel is in a very central location but rooms are a dated. Definitely not a 4 star hotel, given multiple broken things like the dishwasher, dryer, mirrors etc. and super bright lights make the room feel like you are in a supermarket. Would stay again for location alone, however.

So disappointing have stayed there many times while in Mackay and have been very happy However this time room was so dusty and smelly ants everywhere had to throw food out while cooking as they were in the microwave when used the lounge had something living in there as every time I sat on it I would get itchy and little bites would appear final straw was room was not cleaned one day and reception argued with me sign was do not disturb when it wasn’t they would not listen have canceled the next two visits and booked somewhere else it doesn’t matter whether cleaning is outsourced as it has been pointed out on here they are not doing their job same at the restaurant down stairs rude staff and quality has definitely gone down

Room 613 whirring noise from ventilation. Some sort of electric motor goes on and off every several minutes. Only get 3-4 hours of sleep. Reported to reception, and now the second night 4am and I am writing reviews instead of having a good night sleep after 12 hours of work a day before.

Netflix wasn't working, phone line scratchy, dirty shower head, the pool heater isn't working, the staff are fabulous, it isn't their fault the Hotel is not being maintained. I have stayed here 2 times in the past 2 months, last month my air conditioner didn't work and the staff were pleasant enough but couldn't fix it. I come here for work, not leisure so it is slightly tolerable, however, I certainly wouldn't want to stay here on vacation.

My room was damp and mouldy - so smelt bad - and when I asked to move, the next room was only slightly better (less visible mould but a broken dishwasher and hopeless non steam iron that meant I attended business events in crumpled clothing. There were no extractor fans in either internal bathroom which I don’t think helped. This triggered my asthma so it’s definitely a hotel to avoid if you have allergies. It’s also generally not up to the standard of other Rydges hotel I have stayed at, lacking extras like cushions on sofas or beds, a range of teas / hot drinks and limited non free to air TV options. On the upside, the rooms were quiet and spacious, beds comfortable, the restaurant was good and the front of house team were friendly.

Mould in bedroom. Unable to change temperature on Aircon. Whirring noise from ventilation keeps me awake second night in a row. Shower head needs deep cleaning. And all of the above you can get just under 900 AUD for three nights.

It is a great place to relax and enjoy a beverage, food, and a famous Farwin sunset. While I didn't dine here, the meals looked great.

I think the reviews before have had the similar experience. Little things would be so easy fixed to give this all more of a quality feel. Change the shower head, repair the door stoppers which are half falling off the walls, replace the peeling office chairs and ensure these little sugar ants in the kitchen are taken care off. So many more things like black tape on the balcony door, cheap looking coffee tea tray with plastic kettle and charging for water out of the fridge. The best thing about the stay is Moss on Wood downstairs and the reception area. If you looking for 1 bedroom apartment consider paying $40 more and stay at the oaks for example.

In heart of city, but not River-front, own parking facility, with direct access to hotel undercover! Convenient room for a week long stay, with all the comforts of home.

I found the day time front desk manager to be extremely rude and obnoxious. House keeping entering my room unannounced and then entering later again that day ,after the service was declined, and left my door open after they left. An appollogy was given but no incentive to return. I feel they should have at least offered a discount or voucher for my inconvenience.

I don’t usually like to leave reviews but this time I feel I have to. Wednesday this week I checked in to Rydges Mackay. I was given a room key card and walked up to my room. Once I scanned the key and the door opened, there was a random man laying on the bed…. I was shocked. He was shocked. I apologised and thought I might’ve scanned the wrong room but nope, we were both given the same room!!! I walked downstairs and let them know. They explained it was something to do with morning staff doing something with the keys (??). With how nonchalant they were acting about the situation, you would think this is a daily occurrence. I would just like to know in what world this is acceptable? That literally endangers me and the other person in so many ways. I also felt so uneasy the entire trip as I was worried the same thing would happen to me and some random would walk in. Worst stay ever :)

Gross, the whole place stinks like mould and old cigarettes, in the room the aircon was mouldy and growing out on to the ceiling the fridge was mouldy, there was food on the bench space, we tried to open a tiny window that jammed up, also the room was absolutely tiny! . They have a mould problem the vents throughoutthe building had mould growing out of them. .we checked out 5 mins after check in. 1 positive is the quick refund. The lady at the desk was good to deal with

Don't stay here if you have dust or mould sensitives.|| ||We stayed in room 301 and the moment we opened the door we smacked in the face with overpowering musty mould smell. It really wasn't pleasant. ||I am sensitive to mould and break out in an itch and feel generally unwell when I am in a mouldy environment. ||||The air conditioning smells musty.... it's the type of air conditioning that runs through the building to other rooms (not individual units). So no point in changing rooms. We decided to spend as much time as possible away from the hotel room. The less time we were in that room the better. ||||The carpets are old and stained which happens but the problem was that they were also still dirty from the previous occupants - bits of noodle on the floor, drips of something on the tiles. They carpets also smell musty and gross.|| ||There is a huge build up of gross 'stuff/dust/unknown wonders' all around the walls of the whole room (see photos) - they don't vacuum along the walls with a narrow vacuum attachment for some reason?? I noticed it was the same along the hallways outside of the rooms. The wardrobe shelving was covered in the same 'stuff'???'. ||||It's a shame because it is in a great location, the staff are nice, the family room lay out itself is great and the beds themselves would have been very comfortable if I wasn't itching the whole time I was in the room. || ||My 1 star rating is due to the fact that mould makes me sick and I can't enjoy my time while I am itching, the room was dirty and it stunk - sounds harsh but sadly it is true. Unfortunately I couldn't relax there.|| ||The hotel room needs a really really good deep clean, the aircons need to be cleaned and treated for mould, carpets also need to be replaced.

Bed wasn't soft or hard. I am a back sleeper, so found it a little bit hard, but it was okay.|Room was nice. Spa bath is really small. You can fit two people in it, but the photos are deceptive. |Bathroom and room were clean. I felt the shower probably needed a bit of a hard scrub, but it was clean enough. |Reception staff weren't great. At check-in, I very much felt like I was just another customer/number. Little questions like: How has your day been? What have you been up to go a long way. We paid extra for breakfast, and because we slept in, we missed it. While this is standard hotel practice, they could have offered us something to compensate us (e.g. a free coffee each). This is what the best hotels do to get you coming back. I remember a 5 star I stayed at gave me a free toothbrush pack because I left mine at home. It's the little gestures that count. |The pool is either closed or needs major work. It looked disgusting. The gym wasn't a gym.|This place needs work to live up to the Rydges brand. I have stayed and will continue to stay in Rydges hotels, and I will stay here again, but management needs to prioritise cleaning and customer service a little more.

A reasonably priced, well-appointed hotel suite, centrally located in the Mackay CBD. My room was large with a lounge and dining area, a good-sized balcony, centrally situated bedroom, galley style kitchen and separate bathroom and toilet. Downstairs it has a restaurant, bars and pokies if that's your thing. It's also within walking distance to other restaurants and Sydney Street market. Well worth a stay if you're in town.

Amazing room, thought i could live there! It had a washing machine and a dishwaser and lounge room. The bedroom was lovely too, sliding mirror cupboards nd a tv. The bed was so comfy too, wish i could have stayed longer. Also the shower pressure was great! You know how hotel showers can be iffy, this one was hot and good presure. Also had a bath which was great to relax after a long day. |Only thing i didn't love was the fact the iron was steamless. I understand that's probably safety. It did the trick.
