Willing to spend thousands on renovations but refusing to pay owed superannuation and salary to your workers. Hiding behind false claims of "new ownership" but in reality is it's been same share holders all along!

We went here for dinner and thought the food was amazing. The staff were fantastic and very friendly. They new the menu almost off by heart and new all the ingredients in each meal. The staff were also fantastic with kids. Highly recommend although maybe not if you are looking for your average pub meal. This is a bit fancier.

Went out for lunch with my daughter and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the food was amazing and the dessert took me straight back to my childhood, bread and butter pudding , haven't seen that on a menu before and it was delicious.
Great prompt service from friendly staff .The venue Itself has been recently renovated and looks amazing. Well done on every level today . Well worth the visit will definitely be back .

We had looked up google maps to choose somewhere for dinner. We could see the menu posted and thought it looked good with something for both of us. When we got there we could see the menu was very different. I ordered the steak and was rather disappointed that it didn’t come with any salad or vegetables and that it was covered in salt. I couldn’t eat the chips either as they were also covered in salt. The wine was nice 😊

The owner just newly renovated the restaurant. Nice environment. Excellent services. Important was all foods were delicious 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Stopped in for lunch and had the Wagu Beef Burger and Fried Chicken Burger with fries. Great food, great staff, and newly renovated.

Since renovations, the booth seating for the restaurant is amazing with food to match. Cost, more on the high range for pub meals but i will be going again.

Really rate this place. There was a $15 lunch menu and everything was really good. The schnitzel and gravy was incredible. Had a few beers which were nice. Great customer service

Real Australian pub with epic food! Best value for money meal we have had on our travels around Australia! So glad we picked this pub to go to for dinner! Highly recommend!

Our first time back since the South Australian Hotel reopened and we were both very impressed.
The interior looks absolutely fantastic, so fresh and a great vibe.
The service was fabulous, really friendly and beyond helpful.
We ordered 4 "smaller plates" to share between 2 adults for lunch, we couldn't quite finish them all.

Fried Haloumi with triple cooked potatoes, Wagyu Brisket Spring Rolls, Baby Cuttlefish with roast potatoes and choriso, and Crumbed Prawn and Abalone Albondigas. Every single thing we ate was absolutely beautiful.
Highly recommended to come and try, don't expect the boring old pub meals your use to, this place is for people who enjoy new and exciting food.

Love that the South Aussie re-opened and has brought the high-quality food you'd expect in Melbourne to Mount Gambier. Brilliant food, super smooth imported Japanese beer on tap (not the Australian made under the same brand which tastes like a bad VB) and the loveliest staff. Already eaten her twice and will be back without fail. Highly recommend.

Lovely pub. Very friendly staff with quick service. I was a bit disappointed that they had run out of steak when we went there on a weekday lunchtime. Otherwise it was a great experience with good food.

HIdden Gem with Great Atmosphere
Walking out of sinkholes looking for a feed, we found a nice little "pub" on Google.
Didn't expect to walk into a dining area that look so nice, wall side Bench can use some cushion but overall a very warm and welcoming environment
Servers are welcoming and not pushy, only show up when you have finally decided what to order from their slightly simple menu.
Me and my wife order 2 entrees, 1 Main and 1 side and its a good portion for 2 hungry tourist driving 6 hours from Adelaide.
Shallot tart is sweet and caramelized with sour cream and mustard. Tart is slightly overdone but it's probably we are sharing and find it a bit hard to cut it open
Beef Carpaccio is a little letdown. Rockets leave do pair well with raw beef, but I feel like there can be more citrus in the dish, a salted eggyolk is a good pair but not enough to cover the whole fish, portion is generous though.
Lamb Rump is somewhat a mixed emotion, the rump is executed greatly with medium rare but it's underseasoned. Artisan carrots is bit overdone at the end so it's bit crispy and seems heavy on salt. The purree underneath is underseasoned and doesn't pair very well with the lamb. wife end up dipping the lamb in the aioli that comes with the chips to finish them.
As we kinda lost hope, there is a glimpse of silver lining that is the Thick chips, crispy on the outside with herbs and salt seasoned well, extremely fluffy on the inside and paired with Aioli it's a good compensation to the other slightly disappointed dish.
There are definitely some adjustments needed in the menu to make this a great pub diner. Considering the price of this rural town diner is not exactly cheap compared to a more metro area pub, I hope this is not one of those one time diner for tourists and are looking to improve. For the service and environment they definitely deserve a retrial, will visit again the next time we visit Mount Gambier.

Had a wonderful evening at the South Aussie. Staff were friendly and attentive, and all the food was delicious and reasonably priced. We’ll be back for sure.

Fantastic meal, great service and beautiful renovated venue. Food was absolutely delicious, big shout out to chef Luke. Will definately be returning and will bring along some friends.

Dined last 07/04 and it was their steak night. We requested for our steaks to be cooked medium. My scotch fillet was well done and a dry. My husband’s porterhouse was pink but the texture was grainy and very hard to chew. I think they need to step up by using a better quality of beef. It’s a shame because both steaks were seasoned very well and their sauces were amazing! Their staff are very friendly though. And I love how they hanged some oold photographs that tell about the history in Mt. Gambier.

Beautifully renovated high-taste, calming restaurant setting. The staff are attentive and friendly. The food is high quality and flavourful - I’ve been for lunch and dinner and enjoyed both. Good plant-based options - a few more that could be veganised would be great. Impressively local wine list. We will go back!
