What a great place to eat, their smoked meat platter was absolutely delicious , we will be coming back again.

We were working in Mt Gambier and came to the South Eastern for dinner.
The hotel was practically empty.
Upon ordering food, we were told the kitchen was closed due to renovations to the flooring, and the restricted menu available was what the food truck outside could make.
Really, we should have gone elsewhere for a meal.
The food and drink were ok. (Decent for a truck).
The atmosphere was non-existent. (Maybe the locals were staying away because of the renovations?)
Service was friendly, but the bar staff/waitress that served us seemed "scattered" and forgetful.
Would be interested to see if anything changes after the flooring renovation is completed, but I'll likely never know as the next time I'm in Mt Gambier, I will be trying a different location for dinner.

We went as a group and if I was on my own I would have walked out. The prices are the price of a 4 star restaurant not a pub meal . The girl who served us was so surly and rude she didn't smile at all and when one of the kids meals came she slammed it down on the table so hard the nuggets nearly jumped out onto the table. We weren't very impressed at all with her. We won't be going back any time soon. 1 because of the prices and 2 because of the service.

Went to the front bar for dinner. $25.00 parmigiana and pint with all you can eat veggies and salad. Friendly service, tasty food in a nice setting. Enjoy

Went here for lunch on Sunday 11/02/2024. Three meals ordered were: Mixed grill, seafood basket & Rump steak. All very nice meals & service was prompt & friendly. Salad bar & vegie bar are noteworthy & a variety of selection.

Was staying in Mount Gambier for a couple of nights and wanted something rather than the normal takeaway rubbish we all get when travelling. We found this pub on Google Maps, and it had a good star rating, so we went there to try it out.
Pulled into the carpark only to find it quite full. Well, we were already here, so we went in with the expectations of waiting hours to be fed.
When we went inside, surely enough, the place was pretty full of customers, a good sign for the quality of the food, but a bad sign for how long we may be waiting for.
As you enter the dining area, you are required to wait to be seated by the bar staff. We had a group of 5, 2 adults, and 3 kids. We were seated straight away at a a large table near the entrance. We used the QR code scan thing at our table to put in our order and payment details.
Within 10 minutes, our first lot of food arrived, and we were completely served within 15 minutes. The food was great, plenty on the menu to pick from, and a great atmosphere 👌

Lunch today with our Thursday Ladies group. Thank you Melissa for your friendly service. Kind and attentive service to the regulars is what keeps us coming back. Well done, again.
There must be a new lunchtime chef.
Menu is now even more interesting with varied items offered. Recent marinated pork chop was amazing, Crumbed Prawns were tasty and todays lamb chops were spot on.
Congratulations on a change that improved on an already good service. Serving staff are an added bonus.
Ladies lunch favourite venue. Great specials, easy access, QR codes easy to find and use. Food is better than average. Parking is good too.

The place was very busy in the Restaurant area, as was the indoor kids playground - It needed a good wipe down. The dining area needed some ventilation as it was very smoky. We dined in front bar section which also had its little salad bar, the atmosphere was great & the staff are consistently nice with friendly & quick service.
The food however is not so consistent unfortunately. Our meals on this occasion tasted precooked and reheated in microwave when ordered.

Takes forever to be served in any bar / restaurant in this establishment. But staff have plenty of time to chat with each other around the kitchen door.
And when you finally do, you'll regret ordering food.
I had "Bangers and Mash". Something a child can prepare at home. Somehow, their "qualified chef" can't. Rock hard, with a layer of burnt leather around it.
Nor can he cook a steak to Medium Rare (my friend's steak was about 5 minutes past Well Done), and the fish was either mush or dry (2 other meals at my table).
Stayed in Mt Gambier for 4 more nights after. Didn't return at all, even though was only across the road.
I went to the Gambier Hotel instead. Awesome food. Speedy friendly service.

Speedy service, good food and liked the salad/veg bar. KIds play room is great. Little pricey, especially on the kids menu.

SHORT NUT SWEET 😉, Visited Gaming Room In Only The Second Time In My Life. It Was Good Fun As The Machines Kept Us All Entertained Together Whilst There.

Pretty busy for a Monday night. Had the warm Thai salad with add on of Grilled Beef. Plenty of it in my bowl. Needs a new dressing with more flavour as all i could taste was bottled citrus and mint

Most friendly and kind staff here in Mt. Gambier. The night we went was fully booked out. Busy, but staff were patiently introduce the menu and assist with the salad bar. Food were nice with great potion, excellent value with taste. In the kid‘s area they‘ve got the brand new indoor playset and some game consoles. The machine were all well cleaned and maintained.

Just spent $150 on the worst food I’ve had!
Ordered two 16 hour slow cooked brisket and sausage, pork ribs and a pork belly. The brisket was dry, the sausages raw and the pork belly not cooked long enough with chewy soft skin!
Do not recommend this place at all!

I was looking forward to trying the R&B board, the 16 hour cooked beef ribs and brisket. This is a huge plate of food! This can easily feed two.
Unfortunately, the brisket didn't survive the reheating and was quite dry, however the ribs were good. The salad bar selection was good and the pub seems to be popular with the locals.

I ordered fish which was ok. My partner ordered beef snitzel and couldn't eat half due to being burnt and dry. We left on the plate so it would be seen on clean up.Expexted better for the price paid. Don't think we would return anytime soon. Lovely venue though.

I had a large snitzel and Diane sauce. The other three had a large chicken snitzel each and various toppings. Bread crumbs were crunchy and chicken and beef were great. Chips were crunchy. Salad was plentiful and fresh. Also a beer a couple of cokes and water. $111 for the lot.
We will be back.

I enjoyed my meal at this Hotel, but maybe fir a kids meal fir a roast, it would have been nice to have had a roast potatoe, as I had a kids meal roast of the day, with no roast potatoes, the roast pumpkin wasn't cooked through all the way, mine was hard as, I could barely cut Into my piece of pumpkin, ( in edible ), my roast Pork was dry, but I did enjoy it, the gravy was nice too. My partner thoroughly enjoyed his meal he had a adults roast of the day, well that was a lot better than the kids serving. I mean seriously, the rolls were fantastic & warm when they arrived at the table I was impressed with that. Would I visit this Hotel again, yes I would, gladly. These photos are my meal & my partners meal. You can see the difference between the two meals, I did enjoy my meal thoroughly though, a very good meal over all. I would give this Hotel maybe 4 ****

Had dinner here tonight with my partner complete side show. Our order was mucked up twice. Then took another hour to redo order had it put in take out container as we where getting annoyed with waiting so long and kids running around everywhere and very loud. Then this order was also stuffed up and discusting. I had to pay double for an ice-cream also that was differently not icecream if U call gritty powdered so called mint chip icecream. Really disappointed in this. Then rang to speak with the on duty manager of bistro and was given the gaming lady who knew nothing about food, told us she was not a manager also. The bar staff also needed help in knowing how to make drinks and was in way over her head, felt bad for her she needs more training. When walked in cultry was on floor still there after we left. Children climbing all over bar and serving station, parents no where to be seen, staff did nothing about this, Very disappointing.

Had a great family dinner here. Good range of classic pub meals as well as a great salad and roast veg bar. The kids devoured the slow cooked pork ribs, which were juicy and meat cooked perfectly. Grilled fish was also great. Salad and veg bar has a good range of options. Servings are generous and prices are very reasonable. Some good local house wines available by the glass. Service is quick and friendly and the dining hall has a good buzz about it.

Great place to eat. Great playground for the kids to play, while mum and dad get a bit of a break lol. Nice friendly service and staff were efficient. Great meals and cold beer.

Great place for families with toddlers. Indoor playground was great as it kept kids entertained whilst parents had a peaceful meal. Also very good schnitzel and good service from staff. Came to stay at mount gambier for 2 nights and came here for both our nights.

First time. Absolutely superb. Best salad and veggie bar going around. Mixed grill hard to find now but they top it. Great meals.

Fantastic. Excellent meals quick and easy to order. Fully stocked salad bar cold beer on tap and the kids are all entertained with the playground. Simply amazing

Enjoyed a very tasty steak dinner with a cold beer. The staff were very attentive and friendly, pleasant clean dining room.

Do not misunderstand the atmosphere here we have true refined pub grub. Flavoursome meals, meat should have been advertised for two but was worth the challenge, slow cooked beef flavoursome and not over done but some of the meat was just a little dry.
The mexican chicken parma was really nice and crunchy with really smooth guacamole.
