Wonderful Pub!! Had a lovely afternoon with a few drinks and were surprised when we went into the dining room for dinner, to find Michelle had prepared a beautiful Valentine's Day table for us. Our dinner was sensational - I would highly recommend this pub, plenty of space and staff are amazing. From myself and my husband Craig Stead.

We took the family out for dinner here tonight. I ordered the barramundi with chat potatoes and beans. The fish was cooked to perfection with a crunchy side and the chimmi chimmi sauce had just the slightest hint of spice/chilli which was matched so well! The chat potatoes had a slight crunch which added to the delight of the meal. 10/10! Highly recommend!

Went on a week night, service was good, some odd locals though. We had a table and the place only had maybe 2 other tables taken. 4 of us and we took a long high table at the back of the main restaurant area. Sitting there and some lady rolled up saying she had been sitting there all night and we had to move. Ok Sheldon....so we moved to the next table over which was free.....so there was that.
Otherwise steak was decent and portions of veg etc good.
Beer was cold and food was easy to order, plenty of options.
Price was what you'd expect for the area.

Went on a pub crawl at 1pm and were told that we were being too loud.
Each pub we went to after this venue we were told that they had been called to tell them we were coming and to watch out.
The next pub we went to told us we were fine and no issues at all.
Pretty disappointed in the stag for having a bad day and taking it out on our crew!!

Thursday Night dinner for Grandson. The worst meals we have ever had food slapped to to plates ,black steak ,cold food, mushy batter on fish, the worst salad of all times. Full of cucumber. Mushroom gravy. Not sure what it was. Would not recommend this to anyone. It is one thing for fussy eaters to complain but 7 meals were bad

This is one hell of a cool pub! So much History and they’ve managed to blend the oldschool charm with a modern twist. The band room is incredible, the Soundsystem is the next level and this is a highly respected venue from all Newcastle musicians. Lots of parking out the back friendly staff and a great atmosphere what more can you ask for!

The Stag is a staple of the newy food and music scene. It’s more of a question of why you haven’t been there yet. I got some wings and a burger. It was great. Juicy, flavoursome, all with good service. My friends had a good time too and the beer selection is varied, but quality. See you there next Tuesday.

The reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars for food is because the new menu does not have many gluten free options... However! they will cater to coeliac's and I've never had an issue eating their food. The upstairs function room is amazing and the staff put in a huge effort to set up the room to your desired need.

The Hunter Pie was amazing. Great flavour of beef in red wine.
The atmosphere is hunting lodge with a few trophies above the bars.

Stag and hunter hotel is massive. There are rooms and more rooms down the back. Looks cozy where we had our dinner, be so good for function, birthday party and all that stuff. They have really good kitchen. We had cod & mussels, romp cap & hand cut chips and haloumi & corn salad and they were all so delicious. Good size with reasonable price. Love their cocktail menu as well.

Service was lovely and the food was pretty dang good! I loved the chips and the burgers are really juicy.

Netty. Was. Here. This place oozes with atmosphere. The moody colours and hanging antlers from the ceiling will draw your eye around the room. With both a formal and informal dining area, and multiple bars you’ll find a comfortable nook to relax in and enjoy a meal. At this location the weekly specials rock around the $16 mark but are a warm welcome stepping outside of the traditional pub favourites. Today I had the Hunters Pie Special which was a Lamb, Rosemary & Tomato pie. Yummy.. oozing with a saucy filling that was satisfying in the meat department.

I've been here twice in the last month and it is now going to become one of my regular eating places. The first time I came, I ordered a steak, cooked blue. It's often a gamble, but the steak was prepared to perfection. Warm all the way through, but as rare as rare can be. It was melt-in-your-mouth succulent and worth every cent! Next, I tried the lamb cutlets with mash, veg and mushroom sauce. They were the BEST CUTLETS I've had in ages, and the veges were beautifully cooked. They were crispy not soggy, and full of flavour. I can't wait to come back and try more of this amazing food!

It was a quiet night when we were there. Had a beer and feed before going into the front bar to support the local independent music that was on. The Stah has always been a mainstay for this and kudos to them. The rennos that were completed a while ago still look clean and contemporary and I always enjoy a visit there. It's 💯 better than the rough old days lol Safer too!

I put 4 stars on food but didn't try the food so if you are after a meal my review won't help. this place is pretty cool inside where the band was playing, I saw the band "Whistle Dixie" and they were awesome, beers were under $8 and it felt like a good place to be.

I ordered the vegan cauliflower burger with chips to take away. It was not worth the wait, the portion of the chips was for a child. The burger itself was not a burger.. it was bland cauliflower with mayo sauce on a bun. The food was Luke warm and so unsatisfying. Not worth $24 - disappointed.

I just held an event in Stag and Hunters Function room and it was absolutely fantastic! The staff on the night, and Taylah and Tianna who helped me organise it, were all just fantastic! Super helpful, friendly, and organised. The food was delicious and the room was beautiful. Thankyou so much for the amazing evening!

Great live music venue here in Newcastle. Grab some good food in the bistro before rocking out in the band room to local and interstate talent. Great mix of styles and genres from acoustic solo artists to blues and heavy rock! Do yourself a flavour!

Great beer selection and funky little pub.
I have only eaten here twice.
The first occasion during the week there was a good selection of the usual pub grub. Reasonable priced meals and good portion sizes.
The second time was on a weekend lunch. Pizza only selection that nice but not mind blowing.
Amenities could definitely do with a refresh in the main dining are but are clean and tidy.
I would recommend this for a meal of drink.

Friendly staff, good music venue.
Update after 1 year: been here a fair few times now. Just moved a few blocks away. Been here early afternoons for a relaxing bevvie after work... solo to space out, or with a mate...
Been a couple of times with the lady for dinner. The dining area is nice. Food is really good. Thursday special snitty is my fav.
Good cocktails too, experimented with a few.
Regular live music.
I dig this place.

Asked the price for an extra lamb chop. $12 extra. Bought a lunch special burger instead. Staff nice toilets ok. Handicap parking near the building. Some overhead protection for the hc spaces would be easy to build.

A pretty great selection of beers and decent food. A little more on the expensive side but very tasty. The front bar has a great love music area, albeit a little dingy, and the beer garden area is light and airy. There are multiple bars and some nice cocktails to choose from. When we ordered our dinner the bartender warned us there would be a wait on food because it was busy, but we were pleasantly surprised when it came out early.

Absolutely amazing. We had our team event here and every step of the way the staff and service/food/atmosphere were amazing. Highly recommend.
