We stayed in an Airbnb close to the Albion and were grateful that we stopped in for a quiet beer. Great atmosphere with the fire place and open plan. Staff were happy for a chat and helpful regarding local sights and directions. There was a solo guitarist playing on the Friday which helped set a relaxing mood. Happy with the food choices and generous helpings. Saturday saw some sporting teams coming back for a post game beer with the families which also added to a friendly atmosphere. It looks to be recently renovated but I didn't ask. All in all, not a bad place for a quiet afternoon session or a good old fashioned pub meal.

Went to the Albion tonight for dinner because they sponsor the sports competition at Urban Rec and our team won a $100 voucher for being ‘Most Fun’ team. When we tried to order dinner the Duty Manager ‘Jerry’ or ‘Gerry’ (can’t confirm spelling but he was small, bald and irrationally furious) yelled at us saying people had been photocopying the voucher and that we weren’t allowed to use it. He was weirdly aggressive and it was all in all a pretty horrible experience. It would also be unusual for a group of 8 people to try and scam one of Newcastle’s least desirable venues just to save $12.50 each but he was adamant. Gerry/Jerry didn’t let us use the voucher so on principle I didn’t order any food so I can’t review the cuisine although I did see the ‘mega schnitzel’ and it was pretty normal sized. Have no intentions of going back to the Albion again. Jerry/Gerry is definitely not the Most Fun and should get his blood pressure checked, the guy was red as.

- Just saying.

Went for Melbourne cup and while menu wasn’t as advertised I couldn’t fault menu or service. ||Service was 5 star. ||Food was awesome!||I can’t stop talking about the friendly service though. Service wins every time for me.||Would 100% go again without fail.

We just checked into this hotel . We paid 2400 for two queen rooms for three nights. We have been given one queen room and one broom closet double bed room. The guy at reception said its not his problem he doesn't own the place. My partner kept asking for another rooas we had paid a couple of thousand dollars for this accommodation. He was quiet dismissive and offered to take a queen bed from another room and put it in the small space we have. There is not even a sink in the room

We desperately needed a room for the night on our way to Sydney. I chose this hotel as I got a great deal on booking .com and it looked like the rooms were nice. The rooms were excellent. Obviously newly renovated. Huge king bed, brand new carpets , clean, warm and black out curtains. Everything except a bathroom! My mistake…. I didn’t realise this was a traditional ‘hotel’…. Rooms above a pub. Despite this there was no noise at all and the bartender took us through the drunk karaoke singers (it was midnight on a sat night) and up to our room. Free car park attached to hotel. Perfect for our needs

Visit for the 2nd time to the updated restaurant was disappointing. 1st meal- the pork medallions was amazing. Juicy, well cooked meat, just was tasty and right consistency, chat potatoes were freshly cooked and crisp on the outside. I thought I’d order the same again. Pork was dry and overcooked, just was gluggy, potatoes were reheated. Salad was placed all over the top to cover up the mess underneath. It was edible but just.

Very, very nice hotel. Good areas for seating for the purpose of your visit. The gaming area has been revamped beautifully, and I was treated to hot snacks whilst nuts and such are always available. Have not dined there. The talk is good.

This is a pub I'd heard of in my youth but never been to. Whatever it was like all that time ago it's currently a great local. Great bistro and seafood raffles. The staff and publican are friendly and professional. I highly recommend it.

The website makes no mention of the fact the bathrooms are communal. The venue closes at 10pm, and then you are locked out. There is a phone number you can call to gain entry, however it is not mentioned on the website that there is a curfew. We had to wait 20-25 minutes for someone to show up and let us in to our room. If I had been advised of these details I'd have booked elsewhere given it was a long weekend, and grand final weekend, plus the knights girls won. We didn't want to be tucked up in bed by 10pm after having travelled all the way from Adelaide. The car park was appalling. If you drive anything bigger than a station wagon goodluck getting in to the parking spots.

NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE Despite their advertising and SEO ranking, they are not wheelchair accessible. The doors are not wide enough and the ramp is not accessible. Im hoping after the renovation they become more aware of wheelchair needs considering they have a good local reputation.

Netty. Was. Here. My home town local. Under new licensee! I Was really keen to hook into some fresh oysters! Seafood Sunday special is $2 oysters (any kind) and $20 buckets of prawns ALL DAY. Not massive oysters but fair sized for the price. All were fresh as fresh can get! What really impresses me is the $15 mid week lunch specials. With your choice of sauce and sides it’s still $15; massive snittys and steaks cooked to perfection. Great for the budget! New members club app so you can get discounts on drinks via a scratch and win.

[Mar 23] Tried them again tonight and the menu doesn't match what you actually get. Photo attached is of a sauce that cose $3, and it's so small. [Jun 22] Last wednesday (trivia night) my Girlfriend and I ordered a schnitzel each. When they came out they had been cut in half! So they were half the size that others at our table had received. The veggie sides were also much smaller than normal. I've never had that done to me before. The bar staff was surprised but wasn't able to do anything about it because they had run out of schnitzels. This used to be a really good place, but the new owners are more interested in cutting corners and alienating their customer base.

I was looking for a cost effective place to stay for 1 night. After arriving the gentlemen at the bar was very helpful, my room was very clean and my bed was very comfortable. I stayed for lunch and dinner, both were amazing. You get noise as you would expect from any bar, that comes with the Territory.

It's 4am and music is still blasting in my room from the bar. Writing this review then packing my bag and leaving. What a joke of bar with accommodation. No respect for their guests. 2 nights of no sleep. No towls for the 1st night either. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Greeted by friendly staff who treated us really special as we were their only guests for the 3 nights. Room was pristine and clean. The bathroom was clean but it was a little sqeezey. The Bistro served great food. Not a big menu but the Specials board had great meals. One complaint was the TV is small and mounted too high up the wall. We got cricked necks and the picture was tinged red due to the acute angle so watching was not clear. But it was a handy location to light rail, great cafes. Access to the city and ferry was easy. We only drove the car on the last day as we went to Port Stephens. A real Hoot on Origin night!

Fortunate to have stumbled across this hotel while on an overnight stay. Great pub atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food. Even better, we arrived just into happy hour and left more than a little happy…This is yet another great little place that makes Newcastle worth visiting.

For the price of $145 for the night I wouldn't recommend it. Place is quite noisy and the rooms weren't very clean. Shared Bathroom was quite disgusting to be honest. We informed the staff when we arrived that the bathrooms had rubbish and wet used towels on floor, we came back from our night out to find nothing had been done to clean the shared amenities. We both refused to have a shower here because of this. I have added photos. Have stayed in better pub hotels within the area.

Dropped in for a drink, sat outside by the roadside. Understandably it's very loud, all tables were wobbly. Inside a little dark, good for a local quiet one. Wine list a nice surprise

Don't be fooled by the photos. The Hotel rooms have been completely renovated & just opened. Brand new king size beds. Big TV air-conditioning and ceiling fans. Clean. Good feed downstairs, close to the station. Parking outside. Highly recommended.

Be prepared for noise and if you choose to stay at The Albion. You will be subjected to music from the bar below contrary to previous reviews and the manager didn't really care when I explained the music was loud in the roms above at 11pm on a Wednesday night, you will also be woken by doors banging during the night as other guest use the shared toilets and then there are the trucks going past every 5 to 10 minutes! Previous reviews are correct and the rooms have been renovated but are very basic and for the price lack basic features.
