What happened to this place?! I moved to Gympie 12 months ago and have loved coming here for the beautiful outlook, a vino and the delicious food 🍽️ While the outlook is still stunning, the food has really TAKEN A DIVE 😕 I brought an out of town friend here tonight for dinner, raving about the delicious Thai beef salad and the yummy seasoned chips… The beef was over cooked and chewy, and about half the original serving than usual, as was the salad - the cheapest part of the meal! Probably to help cover up the reduced beef portion they now offer. The chips were unseasoned, and seemed to be half cooked. Needless to say, there has been no real change to the price of either meal, other than now paying $20 Vs $22 for the salad. Overall, VERY DISAPPOINTING. I won’t be eating here again, and certainly won’t rave about it to my friends anymore

We were passing through and stopped for dinner! What a great staff and customer service! Clean, fun country decor, play cubby house outside for kids, could not see a change table but apart from that was a great family stop. Food was great and well priced! Thankyou

We really enjoyed our lunch here. Menu was not extensive but adequate. Quality fresh seafood was cooked to perfection and better than many coastal seafood restaurants and great value. Looking forward to our next trip to Gympie and another meal at the Australian Hotel.

Went there for dinner. I asked for a chicken breast dish that was not available. So I took the special roast lamb, the veggies around it were ok but the lamb was completely dry, no juice at all, like shoe soils, disgusting. I also asked for a drink menu and asked if they had a type of wine, they were looking at me as I was talking in Chinese. Even if there is the closest pub from my house I will never be back.

Went in for a quiet beer and a large male staff was yelling at a young female bar girl out of control calling her an imbecile. Horrific display of bad management. I checked the girl was ok and left, Terrifying

We just had lunch here today, the best steak, perfectly cooked medium, so tender. Chips and salad beautiful. I got mushroom gravy and the garlic cream sauce. YUM YUM all great. Thank you chef.

Was a pretty sub-par meal and experience... our order was forgotten twice (wings and mains) as we watched people who sat down after us - eat before us. The dish I ordered was not what the menu stated... still tasted ok but we were starving by then so a rubber chook would of tasted good too... I would of let this go but at $32 for the mains and a shrug for an apology I wanted to share this in the hope that the management pick up their game for the sake of the patrons.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. My steak came out perfectly on medium rare as I had asked for, and the coleslaw and potatoes were absolutely amazing sides. I'll definitely be back again.

The second star is purely because the staff were all very nice. * Menu not as advertised on their website * Only 2 kids options which were beef sliders or fish &chips * No garlic bread *No option to have vegetables, only chips and salad or mash and slaw (find that second option so weird and gross considering the menus say a baked potato and slaw on the side) * Ordered a rib eye - received a fatty bit of rump... Will hand it to the chef though, he did cook both the steaks our table ordered perfectly. * Had calamari, it was straight out of a cheap packet, stringy/chewy and definitely not worth half its cost. The Aussie has always been known for its amazing meals....food still cooked well, just needs a menu change (definitely needs a few more options) and to look at ordering different calamari in. We will return when the menu changes :)

The rump was cooked to my liking, & the French Pepper sauce was good, my only negative is that it was all too salty.

Thank you for a great weekend. My partner and I stayed at your hotel on the 14-16 March and found our room very clean, as were the shared facilities. We dined in your restaurant on Saturday night which was very busy and the food delicious. Most importantly we found the staff very friendly with a good sense of humour.

Splendid period hotel on the hill with nice views. Recently renovated keeping the charm intact. We (2 people) stayed one night here during October and had dinner in the dining room. Very high ceilings throughout with a lovely functional wrap around verandah with our room having direct access. Meals were of very generous size and delivered in reasonable time considering the dining room was full on the night we were there. Shared toilet, bath rooms and including basic kitchen with some cooking facilities. Staff very friendly and helpful. Exceeded our expectations. (and also had a comfy bed.) Recommended.

Nice country pub with good food and comfortable accommodation. Two recommendations for improvement though. The blind in room 3 doesn’t cover the window properly so we had people looking in our room from the veranda while we were in bed, also if you don’t get better window coverings please turn off the veranda lights as they made it difficult to sleep ☺️

Lovely place for dinner, great atmosphere, fantastic friendly service (seriously can not fault anyone's customer service skills! Everyone was lovely to deal with and super friendly!). Every meal was delicious and the food and drinks are well priced so you can enjoy yourself without getting ripped off, I will definitely be going back every chance I get!!

Just spent a week here, I must thank Greg the manager, all the restaurant/ bar staff and Rick for making our stay so comfortable. Nothing was a bother, and all staff bent over backwards to meet all our need's.Clean room, comfortable bed and all in all a great hotel. Meals were all very good. Rolph the owner, has done a fantastic job with this 130 odd year old pub renovating it to the condition it is in today. I would recommend the Aussie to anyone. Good old fashioned service with a smile. Thank you all so much. We will be back when in town next trip for sure.

Have been a few times over the last month or so, food is reasonably good at least value for money. We are quite angry as twice now we have attempted to dine for dinner only to find they are "closed" even though they are listed as open and literally standing in front of their sign with their hours etc listed and they are closed.... the first time about a week ago it was like oh ok i guess they all wanted to go to the muster.... annoying but what ever.... come again tonight hoping to have a nice meal for fathers day ..... closed.... again ..... just because ? A complete waste of our time, driving 30 mins out of our way not once but twice in less than 2 weeks to get our baby out of the car.... walk in to see the kitchen is closed.... extremely frustrating.... im not sure we will be back, we might stick to kandanga pub from now on as they are far more consistent. If you advertise opening hours, you should stick to them.... giant let down and waste of time for us, just when we were really starting to like the place, they ruin it with these random last minute closures...

Had a meal here on Friday night. It was the worst meal I have ever had in my life. The vegetables were barely steamed, the serve of braised ribs was tiny (the staff were happy provide a larger portion, which was microwaved to the extreme leaving the meat tough and horrible). My family had the chicken parmigiana, which was incredibly raw on the inside. The staff again were apologetic and sent them back to the kitchen. Upon return of the parmigiana's we were notified they were fresh meals, which we pointed out the infact were not fresh and were the same meals sent back just microwaved to cook the centre. The kids hardly touched their meals as they didn't like the taste. I felt for the staff who were trying their best, but there was obviously something happening in the kitchen. The free drink didn't really make up for the horrible meals served but were appreciated. Pretty disappointing night.

Food is awesome, drinks are ok priced. Staff are friendly. They have a small kids play area, that parents can sit and gave areal or drink and watch kids. Only down fall is no soft drinks on tap.

First time there with a grp for dinner. The venue seemed nice, and the service was good. Needs a nice atmospheric music. There were a few minor issues with pples orders, but that came down to communication, really. The ladies were polite and friendly, and more so accommodating, they worked fast to resolve these issues. Now, I'm not into gossip or rumours, but I think the reason for some poor reviews is due to the minor errors adding up. Mean it's a pub, not a 5 star venue, but, in Gympie, I suppose they were expecting rainbows and sunshine. Meals look great, I had a pasta dish, which was decent. Again, pub menus.

Don't book your stay at this place. The manager is so rude. I drove 13 hours and paid my accommodation a few hours before, got confirmation as well. When I arrived at the property, the manager said we are fully booked. Go away and find your own accommodation.

Classic QLD pub, Greg was really nice. Meals were good. Room was clean and what a pub room should be. Nice atmosphere. Well done to all the staff. Plenty of parking. Traffic noise is noticeable when idiots drive like clowns. Definitely wouldn’t say it’s an issue tho. |Definitely recommend looking at this pub for a good night out & and a good night in!

After attending this venue for a State of Origin live game feed, I can only say that management is beyond appalling. I attended said venue as I am a STAUNCH sport supporter and wished to absorb the atmosphere. I was definitely loudly enjoying myself and was actually the last patron, without realising it, to the last 15 mins of the State of Origin game 3. I had purchased food and alcohol. With moments to go I was still loudly barracking for my team. This was brought to an abrupt end by a geriatric ?manager (I assume) who advised me to 'calm down the there was only a few minutes left to go' the tone was aggressively condescending and demeaning. And I was on the receiving end of some particularly vulgar language, as I was sworn at. advised I will not return as I was disgusted by the geriatric's behaviour. No other patron all night had been upset by my behaviour, which was DEFINITELY exuberant. My feedback to the wait and bar staff, you guys are incredible, your service immaculate. The food was phenomenal. Management is appalling, abhorrent even. If you do not wish to attract new and enthusiastic patrons, DO NOT advertise that you will broadcast a sporting event. Those in the community that are enthusiastic about sport are apparently not welcome. This feedback is SPECIFICALLY directed at management as such a title profoundly lacking in this establishment.
