Won't be back here, the beer is not genuine or fresh. We were not expecting happy hour or anything resembling those prices, but $15 for a pint of non genuine (as in, brewed and/or bottled locally) beer is not ok when you advertise as being something else.
The service is friendly.
We went for the Belgium beers.....expensive and the friendly service is just not enough to bridge the quality gap. Total disappointment for me, didn't finish the beer and walked two blocks to the next pub.
Edit: the owner responded, suggesting I had expectations beyond what was reasonable....it was not shopy hour, i didnt expect that...as advertised is totally reasonable to expect, check my other reviews, I'm not that human who is anything other than honest in sharing my view. Another minus 1 for this place.

What fabulous people they are!! And the food is fantastic. The thoughtfulness they displayed to my son in hospital recently....well there are no words. If you want a generous size meal at a great price, this is the place to go

Was invited for a friend's birthday. The finger food served was fresh and tasty. The staff were great including the security guy's who actually mingled with the crowd. And location is pretty good being in the back streets plenty of parking.

Typical suburban pub located in North Melbourne. Stopped in for a quick drink, seems popular with locals. Has an outdoor drinking area which only overlooks the busy roundabout. Drop in if you’re in the area and feeling thirsty.

The staff here are really friendly & even more helpful. Nothing was a problem for them.
I had a bit of a hiccup the 1st night, but they were great. So much so, I went back for the next 2 nights for tea.
If you have to go the Royal Melbourne or Melbourne Private Hospitals, this place is only 500 m down the road & well & truly worth the walk.

The Castle Hotel is located in the heart of Melbourne near the Royal Women Hospital. It offers a great range of beers and ciders, including some Belgium beers. The interior design is modern and the food is also great. We had the Lamb Cutlets, a porterhouse, a Caesar salad, Chicken Parma and Gnocchi. It tasted delicious and looked fresh, although some dishes could be a bit cheaper in my opinion. Will go there again.

The buffalo wings were steamed or slow cooked?? And they had no buffalo sauce but instead drenched in barbecue sauce lol.
Pretty bad food but everything else was chill

Pretty cool venue. Vibe was really nice. Great bar staff. Steaks were expensive and over cooked, but still ok. Being charged 2 bucks for mustard on top was a first too. I'd go back for a beer, but would probably recommend eating elsewhere.

Please PLEASE do not read any other review until you've read this one.
Sadly, I'm across the road from this restaurant the Peter Mac Cancer Centre, living out my last days. Family eat at the Castle Hotel just about every night and the nursing staff rave about it too. Basically, because of my cancer, I'm down to a horrible liquid diet and everyone around me talks about beautiful food and I'd give anything to just smell a parmigiana!
So I'm in the hospital with my family when a man called "Ange" introduces himself. It was a noisy environment so I guessed maybe he was a physiotherapist or someone come to take yet more blood samples from me.
But out from his bag comes the biggest, juiciest, most perfect looking chicken parmigiana and chips I've ever seen.
Yes, due to my condition it'll take me a week to get through but the THOUGHT!!!!! Ange not only made it with love, he delivered it with love and didn't even charge me!
I was in tears.
Ange paid it forward to a total stranger he'll never see again. He had no reason to. So please PLEASE repay his kindess and try his food. Tell them Troy sent you.

Our waitress was absolutely outstanding. Friendly and never stop smiling and was always looking to make sure there wasn't anything else we needed. My steak sandwich was absolutely perfect.

Ordered ravioli pasta and it was not cooked properly, tomato sauce was watery and flavourless. Sent it back and got same quality back. No staff came to check if meal was OK. Couldn't eat it, on leaving I mentioned the food was poor quality, the response from the older man (maybe manager) was 'the food is normally pretty good' 'it's just one of those nights'. Food quality was poor and staff seemed to have no interest in customer being satisfied with meal.

Normally will go here on Wednesday for the steak night. The portion is pretty generous for $17.50 steak. Descent amount of chips and salads. They’ve got different types of sauce to choose for. The food was ok.

Nice place. My boys ate burgers, wings and chicken parma. I would have liked more vegetarian options. Good place to relax. Pool table is in an awkward place. 😳

Myself and my wife both ordered steak sandwich. The meat was juicy and the ingredients fresh. We both agreed they were the best we have had out along with a generous size serve of chips. Also worth mentioning well priced cocktails considering the location of the venue

I ordered a chicken schnitzel and a Belgium stout.
The chicken schnitzel covered the plate. Very nice with gravy, chips and a side salad. The Belgium stout was magnificent.
The meals came out very quickly, we were there early and there were only a few patrons in the hotel. Service was good.

Had a great reception at The Castle recently. Food was delicious, service was on point, and everything with the catering went smoothly. Definitely recommend it!

Had a function on Friday night and it was faultless. The place was beautiful, the service was prompt and the food was delicious.
I Highly recommend this place whether it's for a drink, dinner or a function, u won't be dissappointed.

Great spot for a nice Belgium beer. Not a huge selection but good regardless.
Would have been nice to have the sound on for the footy on the projector.

Excellent selection of beer from all over the world and the service is one of the best I’ve had in Melbourne. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.

Do not pass this place without going in & having a drink & a feed. I’m from Sydney, but this place gave me the vibe & comfort feeling that you’d get from your local pub, which is rare for me, so was a highlight of my trip being in the winter cold. Warm lighting inside, SUPER friendly & helpful staff (injured my acl, bartender was really helpful in helping me pack things up, had a nice chat!) Bangers & mash were unreal, sausages had an intense flavour, so don’t skip on that one. Portion for the parmy was giant, & I was decently impressed. Cocktails were made with care & tasted great, knocked back 2 & I was done. My background is Belgian, so the overall experience was pretty good. Was just going in for a quick drink, so didn’t take proper pictures of the place sadly. Thanks again to all the staff for being lovely & accommodating, was doing it tough mentally for the week, so that was a big help, & the place was a fluke find. Will definitely come back to this place on my next trip to Melbourne!

Cannot fault this place. Beautiful tasty food with good sized meals. Service was above and beyond. We had my mum in a wheelchair and they could not accommodate us enough. The atmosphere was lovely with great music selection. A special thank you to the staff for making our hospital trip that little bit easier.

Both times we have had a meal there they have been lovely. Home made Lasagne. The sauce on the parmigiana is delicious. And really a large parmy!!!!! Bangers and Mash also delicious. Think home made Sausages. Very nice.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Beer was very ordinary and when pointed out to the barman, refused to listen to feedback. Appalling service. Won’t be returning

A quick meal while waiting for our kitten to be sedated and xrayed for a hr and located around the corner from Port Smith Animal Hospital.

A delicious late lunch. Loved the steak in particular - a great cook on it and it was juicy and tender. Will come back more often.
Service was very good, friendly and hospitable.
