Wow, what a night! We held our xmas party here and couldn't be happier with the event. Sally, Matt, Evan and Rowan (?) were amazing; helpful, courteous, indulging! No request was denied. The food was scrumptious and the staff did many rounds with each variety of canape. Sally controlled everything to perfection while Matt took care of all our beverage needs. Together, the team were fantastic, the venue was awesome and the whole night was a huge success. Thank you so much.

We were incredibly fortunate to discover Crown and Anchor function room just four weeks before our big wedding day, as we unexpectedly found ourselves without a venue. Their team's assistance not only saved us from potential stress but transformed what could have been a challenging situation into a beautiful, stress free, and unforgettable wedding day. They handled all the setup, requiring us only to drop off our belongings. The venue's space was a perfect fit for everyone and the balcony provided a delightful spot for guests to enjoy some fresh air. No one left hungry, and we've received countless compliments about the exceptional food. I cannot speak highly enough of the team, especially Sally and Jacque, who played a significant role in making our day so special. I couldn't recommend more highly - they deserve more than 5 stars!

We recently had our wedding at Crown and Anchor and it was the best venue and staff ever!
The Tom, Jacque, Aleisha and Sally went above and beyond to accommodate us, even getting in specialised beer and wine varieties that we wanted. The food was amazing quality food with great portions size. All guests were commenting on what a great night and the room looked incredible. Best spot with a great dance floor :)

We had our wedding at the C&A and it was just perfect! Jacque and the team were so helpful and easy to deal with, the food and drinks were fabulous and everyone had such a great night. Highly recommend them for your next wedding or event.

We drop by here some Thursday evenings from 7 pm for an easy bar meal and Karaoke. The Kareoke crowd is friendly and accepting. Wayne does a great job as the compare and is very friendly, welcoming, and accepting.

Wanted to go to a pub to watch the matilda’s play sweden for third place with some mates, and I couldn’t be happier with the place we chose. Great service, great prices for what you get (I paid 15 bucks for a good burger with a generous amount of chips) and a overall good atmosphere. Even though it was packed, I didn’t wait long for food, and one of the waiters / bartenders Liam was absolutely fantastic. Would highly recommend 👍

This place is in a great location, and I can’t say anything about the hotel because we just stopped at the pub for a drink before going to out for dinner at another place, but the service at the pub was far from satisfactory.
We ordered cocktails 🍹 and they were not too bad; however, it did take quite a long time as the waitresses seemed unable to make them. We had to wait for the bartender, who appeared to be busy with various tasks around the place (he did apologize for the delay). However, when I asked for snacks like garlic bread or something simple other than chip packs, they said the kitchen wasn't open and we would have to wait another 20 minutes. I didn't realize you needed a chef to make garlic bread 😅.
We ended up settling for the chip packs (we usually avoid drinking on an empty stomach), but that’s when the disappointment came, when I asked for a bowl or plate to share them with the other guests and the kids. The response was literally: "Naaa, we don't do that!" and as a customer, it felt like they couldn't be bothered to find a plate (since the kitchen was off-limits), so we had to eat them directly from the open pack on the table.
Now let's talk about the table itself. It was sticky from old drinks, which suggests that they used a heavily-used cloth from the bar to clean it or a cloth that doesn't absorb well spilled drinks…when you do so the dried alcohol leaves behind all its sugars.
I sincerely hope I simply catch them on a bad day guys and maybe the quality of their dishes is great and the hotel is great, but I doubt we’ll stop at the pub again.

The drinks menu was very sticky, not in the sense that it really gripped my attention, more in a physical way, like a child's hands as they learn how to consume a lollipop.
The overhead LEDs where poorly chosen, that are a hospital level of whiteness, for a late night party bar. Warm (2200 Kelvin) would be a far better choice, warm, cosy, inviting and far better at hiding what makeup/alcohol cannot

Terrible service and food. My friends and I all got food poisoning. Absolutely horrified that this can happen in this day and age!

Schnitzel was massive, bigger than my head, would definitely recommend. Great setting for a nice lunch with friends and service was quick, drinks were good, what more could you ask for!

Save your time and money, DO NOT have your functions here! Tried to overcharge me on several occasions, changed owners three times during the time that I had my booking, tables dirty and cigarette butts all over balcony when arrived to setup for birthday. On top of this, the food was overpriced and of terrible quality, staff were friendly but incompetent. Save yourself the hassle and find somewhere else that is consistent with their prices, policies and staff and actually cares about their customers.

On Thursday, 23rd of November 2023 ordered a sirloin steak, with potato and greens. Dianne was my choice of sauce.
The steak was perfect - fat rendered and cooked medium to my liking.
Potato “gratin” was dry to the point of being hard and unable to chew.
Sauce was not a traditional Dianne. I suggest the cook go back to French Dianne sauce. Happy to pay for it.

My visit started out ok. The bar staff took my dinner order for 3 people, and a seperate order from a friend. My garlic bread arrived, then shortly after my friends dinner arrived. The, not busy, bar staff were standing in clear view of me. 20 minutes after my friends meal arrived I enquired as to my 3 meals. Oh no they said, they were still in the dumb waiter, that they were all standing near, but hadn't checked. They offered to send them back upstairs, to be reheated, but I declined and asked for a refund, which they promptly gave me. So my friend sat and ate in front of us and my husband, my son and myself left hungry. With so many eateries in the vicinity I would think that they'd be more inclined to offer good service. Very disappointing.

I've been to this bar for a scotch fillet steak & a beer a number of times now since new owners had taken over prior to Xmas 2024.
Cons: The first experience was surprisingly very good, and made me return . However, each successive visit has been worse and worse. The portions visibly smaller & smaller and are now actually quite feeble not even close to the stated size of 300gm? ,price remaining the same (with a stock standard tooheys new $39).
Service is fair but slow, tables a little grubby & v sticky and noise levels uncomfortable, with more than its share of rowdy patrons.
Started out promising but think it's loosing track again, and there is plenty of competition nearby without the ultra tacky karaoke night etc.
Pros: a positive note the restaurant upstairs is quite good but different menu, some of the items are excellent, but not all , and again, all getting there , kind of?
Concl: needs direction , especially staff and experience. And please keep consistency, dont ever chinz-out the portion size and quality.

I had a horrible experience at this establishment and I definitely will not be back. The staff were rude and so was the apparent owner. The bathrooms were also absolutely filthy.

I am not normally a sports bar person, but after the Nick Cave gig in Newcastle we couldn’t find any other bars still open on a Wednesday night. We headed in to the Crown & Anchor for a nightcap and our bartender Chris was so fantastic we ended up staying till closing time. He’s a great asset to the business. We found him friendly, generous and accommodating and would actually return because of him. Next time we are staying in the area we’ll check out the meals and accommodation as well. Thanks again Chris for a great finish to our night.

Have given this venue 5 attempts of getting the food right.
Tuesday night TACOS are amazing, absolutely no complaints there.Will continue to come for this for sure.
First night I came, had a steak was amazing yet my guests was not.
Second time all three steak were wrong and was told to cook it myself.
This steak, not even anywhere near as good as the first. But hey, they got the sauce right for a change.
Like I said, tacos amazing, steaks not so much.

Has been waiting for one cocktail for 20 mins . Amoretto sour was too sweet . Also bartender was rude . Not coming back for sure

Had one of the best steaks here that I’ve ever had. Cooked to perfection 👌 Staff are upbeat and friendly. This pub is one of the hidden gems in Newcastle! Great place to hang out with friends 😊

Had dinner here recently with a couple of friends, Ordered from the Pub menu not the restaurant upstairs. The young bar staff lady who served me was very friendly, had a nice smile and was open to talk about the menu items and what she'd recommend. The drinks on tap were an amazing selection of Beers, Ipa's, Bilsons, Canadian Club, and an alcoholic Lemon squash.
The place was reasonably busy for a Thursday, and a few people were milling around.
The food was ordered and delivered in a timely manner, I got the double Beef and Bacon Burger with Aioli on the side, Burger was amazing, Chips - hot and nicely salted. One friend had the Scotch Fillet Steak, it was cooked beautifully they said, but they choose Chips and Salad as they wern't a big Veg fan and thought the Galette wouldn't have been quite filling enough. The other friend had the Nacho's, everything about them was 1 delicious bite after another they said and that Guacamole looked house made was superb, and the Sour Cream was really nice.
All in all 5 out of 5, will definitely be back.

Friendly, excellent service at the bar thanks to Ryan who is attentive to your every need.
Attended for lunch with my 4 year old and ordered a burger with Bacon and cheese with chips.

Fantastic bistro upstairs! Steak was beautifully cooked. Reasonably priced. Nice decoration and atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Dripped in for a pit stop. Bartender Chris was super hospitable to my wife and 1 year old as well as myself. The guy is dilligent too, he was doing the tedious cleaning tasks in between patrons.

Did this pub get new owners/management or something? Because it’s gone downhill of late. Took away the games room entirely (not the pokie room, the room that had pinball machine and ping pong table at one stage) Although the book shelf wall was quaint. ||We waited at the bar with another customers for nearly 5 minutes before a young lady staff member came out of pokie room after dealing with a machine in there, poor luv was on her own, she apologised though so all good. ||No NON ALCOHOLIC beer though which is highly annoying as I like to have a vodka and my husband doesn’t drink so he likes to have non alcoholic beer when we go out, better than soft drink and he doesn’t feel ‘out of place’. Sh**s me when pubs don’t cater for those that can’t drink but still want to enjoy outings with drinkers and drink beer. It’s 2023, time to get with the program. Especially when we need to encourage designated drivers. Sad because we have been here a few times with no problems. Won’t be so quick to visit again. Please get a variety of non alcoholic beers. Thanks

An absolute hidden gem of Newcastle, We have enjoyed a pub meal here a few times but last night we had treated ourselves to sprout dining upstairs and we were left speechless. The atmosphere was exactly what we needed after a busy week, we chose the sirloin steaks that were honestly the best steaks we have EVER had alongside our desserts and cocktails that we will be back for. Hats off to the chefs who prepared our meals infront of us, the fast & polite table service & the extra touches that just made us feel like royalty. I cannot recommend this place enough, I'm so glad we stumbled upon it.
