Yeah eaten here a few times now, but never again!!..was asked to fix the plumbing under the prep area and was absolutely shocked by the amount of grease and filth hiding under there...

Newcastle council health inspector needs to visit this place... should be shut down until a deep clean is performed.. told the publican but he said it's fine, the food doesn't go under there.🤔🤔🤔

We visit The Gates most Sundays for lunch. Delicious food, cold beer, and a great atmosphere.

Was there last night and I must say the 450g tomahawk steak was cooked to perfection .I am very very fussy .I've eaten steaks at the burwood,tex mex,chop house grill etc this was by far the best steak I've had in Newcastle. sear 10/10 cook to order 10/10 quality of meat 9.8/10 it melted in my mouth so will definitely eat there again real soon

Very good meal, I got the T-bone and it was cooked to perfection.

Undoubtedly the best pub food we've encountered in the Hunter. The chef has gone way past the usual and oh-so-boring offerings of schnitty or roast of the day. The wide range of choices were outstanding. I had the prawns my husband had the steak. Both cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. We'll be back.

The food quality at the Gates hotel was very poor. My family and I went there for a dinner and we ordered chicken schnitzel, american bbq slow cooked brisket, and duck ragù, which were the specials on the board. None of the dishes were hot enough, the chicken schnitzel was just warm, the chips were cold, and the brisket was barely warm. The duck ragù tasted alright, but it was also not the temperature that you enjoy a meal at. The staff were friendly and helpful, but they could not make up for the disappointing food. The atmosphere of the place was open, not packed together, but the lighting was a little dark, kind of like they wanted to create an intimate restaurant vibe, but it did not suit a hotel. We felt like we wasted our money and time at this place. Maybe we were unlucky and they had a bad day.

Ordered and Clearly said “ I’d like. T- Bone for dinner” 45 mins wait and the girl cones out with what looked like an undersized Lamb Chop on a plate. When I said it’s not what I ordered and told her her what I ordered she said “Isn’t that a T-bone?” What I found most annoying was it wasnt simply a case of not hearing the customer correctly. The words T-bone and rump ( what they claimed was on the plate ) sound NOTHING alike. Had to ask for a refund and the girl was slightly rude in offering that too.

Nice pub, not too big. They get pretty busy at times, so recommend reserve a table for meals. Good selection on the menu and we have always had an enjoyable experience

My husband had the Scotch Fillet steak with chips & salad. Steak was cooked to perfection. I had the Pesto Pasta with pumpkin cubes tossed throughout the pasta. Really enjoyed it & even had enough to take home for tea the next night. Staff were polite & friendly & the Gates was full so it made for a fantastic atmosphere. Would greatly recommend the Gates Hotel to anyone looking for a great feed.

Great little pub on the outskirts of newy offering a excellent sports bar. Plenty of seating, a good selection of tap beers with friendly staff.

Good food at great prices.
Been going here of and on for many years food has always been great and the prices are still good.
It has been a few years since we last visited.
It think its time for some renovations.
New tables and chairs would be good considering they have been the same ones they have had for many years.
The parking area is much better now. It use to be all gravel. It's much easier now for wheel chairs and mobility walkers.
There is no children's play area.
There is out door areas to eat
Unfortunately no nice views.

Experienced many times now. Working our way through the extensive choices. Food never disappoints! Big menu and quick service, presented well and delicious. Food all delivered together. Cooked extremely well. Look forward to next time!

Delicious food. Great service- we were a large group and our food came out at the same time and all dishes were hot. Parking can be a problem if you are a large group. Specials board was good value.

Been here few times lately and have enjoyed the steaks. Last night ordered lamb shank meal with mash & veg. Pretty disappointing. The shank was tough, still had sinu on shank which made it very ordinary. Sauce was tasteless . Hard to believe it was cooked for 8 hours. Hopefully will be better next visit 🙏

A good dinner in Newcastle. The venue was a little small so definitely book in advance so you won’t be disappointed. The food service was a little slow but the food was delicious. The lamb rump was excellent with great sauce and sides.
The parmi was as expected so was happy with that. The hot air con was very strong though which was a little uncomfortable.
