Wonderful hotel at a perfect location to explore Newcastle city. My son and I stayed on our road tour from Sydney to Brisbane. Nice rooms, great bar and cool outside seating on sand - right in the city centre. I came back later with a colleague for a research project and can only recommend the super friendly staff to arrange a nice place for us to conduct our interviews. Great place and for sure a hotel to return to next time I come to Newcastle.

What I loved about the Lucky Hotel was plentiful. The staff were great. The location was central to everything. The best cookie shop in the World is next door. Happy hour every night from 5-7pm. House wines and beers $6. Each room had a lovely touch of different quotes. The interior of the hotel is very well done with some quirky touches and their chili margaritas were delicious. Will very happily stay there again when I am in Newcastle.

We went here for a work dinner. The pork was very good. Service was fast and efficient. Great ambiance. Location was great. Unfortunately 40 minute wait on cocktails. Had a 3 nip bourbon because staff kept spilling W.Turkey everywhere (bonus) ... Bar seriously understaffed. Restaurant Bar stacked with dirty used glassware for the whole 2 hrs we were there. Could use extra barstaff for the busy Saturday vibes. Overall fine experience.

Today's experience at The Lucky was very disappointing. So glad it wasn't our first experience because it would be our last otherwise. We had family get together for lunch. We were there approx 2hrs. The food was excellent but our table was not cleared once of glasses or plates the entire time. It was not busy at all. Very disappointing experience.

This accommodation is hugely overpriced, dirty, old, and run down. We were in town for a wedding and paid $250/night. This is $70/night more than other MUCH nicer stays. My partner and I found the venue creepy. It honestly looks like somewhere you would go to do nasty things. We didn’t even unpack and turned and left and kindly asked for a refund. The refund was denied because there was ‘technically nothing wrong with the room and we offered to upgrade you’. Honestly, it was such an icky vibe, we couldn’t get out of there quick enough. Don’t book and be burnt like we were. Simple. Also, photos online are NOTHING like actual venue/rooms.

The service was brilliant. I originally was over charged and order taken incorrectly. The lady who seemed to be in charge was very lovely with sorting the problem. When my meal arrived my meal was wrong. The same lady replaced my entire meal and offered a refund and also nibble while I wait. Mistakes happen in hospo which can be a negative experience but it can always be turned into a pleasant one. This lady definitely saved our experience by taking accountability for the stuff ups.

The hotel was dirty and smelly, and the medium rare scotch fillet was dry and hard to chew. This place shouldnt get 4.3 star reviews.

The hotel is in a great location and is really lovely to look at but overpriced. We orded trufle cheese hot chips which were $16 for a small bowl. Didn't taste the trufle at all. My cocktails were so expensive and weak.|The hotel rooms are tiny and the shampoo/ conditioner & soups were all empty.|Our room had a funky smell too|I think it would be helpful to tell customers how noisy this place is at night. We had two really bad sleeps due to the loud music.|The hotel staff at the reception were nice and helpful.|Overall feel like we wasted alot of money.

Really chilled, relaxed place to eat. Surprisingly leafy in inner Newcastle, the courtyard eatery is surrounded by huge walls with beautiful climbing vines all over them. Quick service and yummy food.

Nice service and beer cold, but food was average. Prawn sliders were tasteless and Parmesan/truffle chips tasted like can Parmesan.

Lovely renovatated rooms. Was worried being a hotel that room may get noise but this was not the cases. Complete silence. Only issue slow to check in as depends on availability of bar staff ( could be time of day of our check in also )

I recently had my birthday dinner here with a group of 10 friends. What an absolute diamond of a place! I loved the decor, there was enough space around tables that we could hear each other and the food was brilliant (and reasonably priced). They also allowed me to bring cakes and didn't charge us a cakeage fee. Thank you so much for making my birthday special!

I proactively called the hotel to inform our late arrival and they told me they will send me an email with the self check in instruction but havent received any. I didnt have a problem contacting the person in charge during the night though but there is just the worry of not having someone from the hotel to speak to bec service desk is only at a limited time.To set expectation also, room is not that spacious though but location is easy to find with free parking outside until 9am.

Great place for lunch or dinner or drinks. Beautiful plant filled dining area. Drinks menu is good. Food was very nice. Friendly staff. Recommend catching the tram in and parking a near another tram stop as parking is often difficult to find.

Great location next to Crown St light rail station. Easy walk to the beach and shops close by. The hotel is quirky but could be cleaner in the public areas. Our first room had terrible smell of drains but we were upgraded to a nicer room when we mentioned it.

Great location and reasonable price. Accommodation was clean and the floors had a huge collection of historical photos. The free chocolate pretzel was tasty. Room size was bit small, but cozy. Really liked the casting option on the TV.

Everything I tried here was fantastic, including the food and selections from the bar. The service was also as good as it gets (very friendly, efficient and professional). The vibe inside is also really nice. I dined in a sort of courtyard with exposed brickwork, steel frames, neon signs, fairly lights, vines, plants, colourful lighting and so much seating. I'll be back.

Close to tram station. Minutes walk to the bay and not very far tourist spots. Good location. Close to the " The Station" the old Newcastle Station, the Townhall. Has its own pub, bar, and restaurant. Serves tasty food.

Came in for the hunter culinary association dinner on april food month and it was an absolute blast. You first get struck by the stunning set up and the great atmosphere of the courtyard, followed by the warm welcome of the professional staff. After getting a first welcome drink in my hands and walked to my table i was absolutely comfortable. The event was introduced and quickly i felt welcome and on board with the native ingredients motto of the night. Dish after dish i was blown away by flavours that were new to me and added to my repertoire of natives that i should cook with at home. Jess kept the service notes on point and i felt well informed of what i was eating. First creek as usual bringing amazing locally produced world class wines and the actual producers of wines and ingredients taking you through the journey! 10/10 will come to try any events this guys throw my way!

Beautiful room with some nice colourful cups and comfy bed. Great location close to the wharf and the beach. The personal really attentive and they even give us the opportunity to make the check in before 2pm because it was Christmas. Totally recommend and for sure I will come back.

Average cocktails are served in tiny glasses, no value for your money.|I ordered a $40 steak medium/rare however it was cold and completely rare with grill marks on the outside and the peppercorn “sauce” was gluggy gravy with peppercorns in it. |Don’t waste your money.

Attending the Good Tukka event at The Lucky Hotel was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we were treated exceptionally well. The red carpet entrance and the complimentary drink on arrival set the tone for a memorable evening. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the outstanding service provided by the attentive staff. Their dedication and warmth made us feel truly valued guests. Special commendation goes to Jess, whose genuine care and frequent check-ins at our table ensured that each dish met our expectations. Overall, the Good Tukka event at The Lucky Hotel was a testament to the exemplary teamwork and hospitality of the staff. It was an evening filled with delightful culinary experiences and impeccable service. We look forward to returning for more unforgettable moments.

A great quirky hotel, bar, and restaurant. The rooms are an ideal size with en suite and I did book a balcony room which was really cute. It is well situated on Hunter Street with a light rail stop just outside and is walking distance to the beach and other cafes and restaurants
