Wish I could give it more than 5 stars, Everything about this cosy, friendly pub is perfect. The Guinness is excellent, the food will astound you and to top it all off the service and atmosphere greets you like a hug from a long lost friend. For me it is a must visit place every time I visit Sydney.

We only eat and drink here. It’s close to home. Apple is the manager of the restaurant and we love the food here. Apple makes us feel like family when we go. Drinks are good pub style and price. Music isn’t bad either

Went to the Merton hotel for a party, the staff were excellent, food was excellent and the live music was great. Would recommend to anybody looking for a family friendly hotel. No pokies and good atmosphere.

We had the pleasure of staying overnight in the rooms above the pub. A great stay so close to everything. Rooms were really clean and the breakfast station was well stocked. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend to others. Excellent friendly staff as well.

We came to the Merton hotel to see Pat Powell play live (he was amazing and not to be missed). Pub has a very nice local crowd. Drinks are affordable!! Food was average (I got the nachos and my partner got the chicken parmigiana) but large portions. Service was great 🫶🫶🫶

There for drinks and dinner on a Saturday night. Server at bar delightful, servers at restaurant were just as affable. Had heard much about the burma curry here and was not disappointed. They had a birthday function going on around the back but that has no impact on the service for the rest of the pub. Awesome! Clean and tidy, happy cheerful jointly! Updated : downgrading this site due to a recent visit. With 4 other friends, no one enjoyed their meals. Too salty, too bland...nothing in between. Referring to the bistro only....sorry....

Such lovely Asian food and great value. Far better than most pubs offer. Goat curry is spicy hot but their specialty but with it has a diverse menu so there’s something for all the family. ||If it’s cold book a table near the fireplace.||Although it can be a bit noisy when there’s a band playing.

Quirky little pub with fun atmosphere. Not so sure I would recommend the accomodation however. Not at the prices we were quoted and paid.

My girlfriend and I go to pubs for food almost everyday around the inner west. The Merton must have the best kitchen around. Every meal we have has been amazing. As a lover of Hot sauce/spicy food I judge restaurants on there range of sauces and the temperature of a meal when I ask for '' extremely spicy '' Very Very happy with Mertons. Highly recommended if you enjoy some spice and heat. Bar staff are very nice aswell. already feel like a regular. well done.

Man, the food is absolutely incredible. I was pleased with my Malaysian chicken curry, but then I tried a bite of my friend's fish curry and I was blown away. The quality is spectacular and the portion sizes are quite generous. Add to that a friendly staff, good beers and a jumping band and it was a great night. Thanks!

Love this local pub stuck in a bygone era, especially the live music on the weekends, they always have great old school bands. Service is friendly and the place has a generally relaxed atmosphere attracting an older clientele. The attached Malaysian restaurant has a great selection of food including the regular pub favourites.

I was taken on a date to this little eatery nestled inside The Merton Hotel in Rozelle. This is a no frills kind of restaurant that focuses on the food and not the decor. I was initially surprised at the high prices( see attached photos) but, after ordering the fish tacos and the goat curry and then seeing what was delivered, i understood the reasoning behind their prices. The 3 tacos come out with a very large piece of fish in each. (? Unsure, but would guess it was bass or ling?) The usual basic aussie mex fillings ( lettuce, tomato, advocado and sour cream) are provided on the plate for you to add as much or as little as you like. There was also a home made thai sauce, which i think enhanced an otherwise basic but filling dish. |Now, for me, the goat curry served with rice, buttery flaky roti bread and a delish and much needed cooling tzatziki was the absolute hero of the day...oh my golly golly gosh!!! The meat was tender and just melted in your mouth. The spicy, aromatic flavours were so beautifully balanced, i just want to go back and treat my mouth to this dish over and over. There is only one other goat curry i have tasted that i think is slightly better and thats from Ramas in Canberra. In fact im going there this weekend to pick some up and my date who introduced me to Ketsara is going to grab Ketsaras goat curry and we are gaving a goat curry comp...regardless of the winner...get to The Merton and go and try the goat curry open most nights for dinner and Thursday, Friday and Saturday for lunch. Ill definitely be back.

I was a guest at a dinner party so I cannot comment on the accommodation, etc. The quality of the food and the service was 'Astounding'. At 76 years of age it would take something special to impress me regarding 'Pub Food' ... and here it was "The finest dinner plate that has EVER been placed in front of me" Bar None! Don't just take my word for it, beat a path to their door asap. Easily the best restaurant in Australia.

Great to hear the band downstairs in the evening in the pub, a lovely welcome and good sized rooms. Traveling solo I did not find the shared bathroom an issue and felt safe and happy there. Great public transport access to the city. A nice view peaking at the harbour bridge. Return traveller, will return again.

Great super friendly pub with a nice beer garden and no poker machines!!👍🏻. The attached bistro/restaurant serves some of the best and authentic S/E Asian meals we have eaten. You can also get the usual pub grub meals. All portions are super generous. Best of all,the pub has Tooheys New on tap!

Great pub, staff are really nice at the bar and the restaurant, food is a little pricey but the Asian options are well worth your money.

Great location and top food a cut better than even good pub food. Friday night had a swing or jazz band and a good crowd. Beers are great and the staff are really friendly. Try the Goat Brew, I know it's the owners favourite. The rooms are really fresh and clean; same with the shared facilities that are private and plentiful. Well worth a stop if you are celebrating in the area.

Great local pub. I am a regular visitor for drinks and meals. Friendly atmosphere and staff. Good pint of Guinness. Food is good quality and well prepared. I would encourage you not to get the burger or schnitzel, try something different, you will be pleased. The curries all very good. At about $25 they will leave you totally satisfied.... regular music at weekends is usually good craic

Fun pub, with good food and music. Welcoming atmosphere (and no pokies!) Food covers standard pub fare plus a wide array of Asian and curry dishes - fresh, good quality, generous portions. 3 dining areas to sit depending if want to be close to music or away for general dining experience.

Free live music and no pokies!!!!! Gotta have that, my friends. Not sure about the rooms, as this is a pub, not a place to find accommodation, as I only went to watch a show, have a bite and drink a couple. The gig (Big Mama and the Charm Offensive) was fantastic and this small little pub offers a great atmosphere, a very good bistro and serves Coopers and Guinness (and other beers of course), so really what can go wrong? The only little bit was the sound of the PA. Was not that amazing. But, I really enjoyed myself. And again: Free Live Music and No Pokies!

First time to the Bistro at the Merton hotel. It certainly will not be the last! Simply the best Thai/asian menu with traditional pub fare as well. The Asian menu is so authentic - prices are very very reasonable - 4 betel leaves $15.. lots of small share dishes and the a great selection of curries etc. If like me, you like a bit of spice - You must go here! Not tarted up like most of the trendy Balmain pubs (which we love) - and you can park in the side street. Live music as well..

Dropped in for a night cap on St Patrick's weekend. Place was packed and local band had people up dancing. Prices were average and decor was interesting. Would love to go back to try the onsite restaurant.

Didn’t stay but had dinner in the restaurant twice. Really nice Thai inspired menu, but was told by a local the goat curry was excellent. The inside restaurant is behind the pub area and is somewhat uninspired as far as decor but there is a lovely courtyard outside if you continue through and up some stairs. Had the steamed fish in coconut milk the first time and it was beautiful. Second trip I ordered the deep fried whole fish and it was also excellent - a huge fish cooked very nicely with a flavourful dipping sauce. The pub area also looked nice and didn’t have that characteristic Aussie pub smell!
