What a great historic hotel this is. The food is delish esp the garlic bread. Lovely dining area and beautiful rooms to stay in. All decorated in keeping with it's period charm We stayed for the open Mike session. So much talent to listen to and it's free!!! I can't say enough about this hotel. We loved it. Coming back to listen to the music on Saturday night Very reasonably priced drinks. There is the most wonderful wisteria covered courtyard and it's all dog friendly!!

We were looking for somewhere to stay for a few nights with a 3 young children, and The Old Victoria stood out from the usual Motel-style offerings.||||The building is full of history, and the rooms are sympathetic to this, and appropriately furnished & styled.||||The room was spacious, even with the sofa-bed and travel-cot setup, and the (main) bed was plenty comfortable enough.||||There was a small guest common room where breakfast was available, along with tea/coffee, TV, games etc. This was a great addition.||||The staff were great as well - friendly, welcoming and accomodating. Gave us plenty of tips of what to get up to in the area (though we already had a pretty full itinerary!)||||There were a couple of negatives - our room was at the front of the building, and faced a hotel/bar over the road - this attracted a lot of noise late in the evening. More likely to be an issue at the weekend, but did wake us up a number of times.||||Also worth bearing in mind that the bathroom is shared between your room and the room next to you. The bathroom was large and well equiped, and it certainly didn't cause us any issues, but it's something to be aware of.||||Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and I would certainly recommend The Old Victoria to couples looking for a weekend away - but perhaps not so well suited to families.

We went to the B&B and were not really impressed. The room was lovely, but I definitely would not recommend for warmer seasons. The bar and the restaurant were closed even though the were advertised open. We were supposed to have access to a beautiful shared bathroom with great vintage looking bathtub (as advertised on wotif), but because we had reserved one of the 2 smaller rooms we only had access to a smaller and not furnished bathroom with a shower and all the service tools for the cleaners to use. Definitely not the treatment we expected. Really unfortunate that this little gem is managed (probably owned as well) by someone who really doesn't care about it. Oh and the continental breakfast was toast, cereals and some fruit.

we went here last Saturday night 4 dinner found hard 2 find as all the trees out front. our water was on the table and the candle lit our waitress asked if we wanted drinks but they never arrived. she explained the menu 2 us and told us whey were out of it only 6 o clock!!! we order 2 breads they came out and they were delicious. we both had the steak it came with mash and greens with a gravy on the side it was delicious. the problem was when I went 2 pay we had a voucher from the entertainment book which states buy 1 get 1 free up 2 the value of $45. I paid and asked why bill was so high the waitress said as nothing was over $40 our mains were $38 we only received $20 off. very disappointed as that is false advertising and against the rules of the book. we left and we both disappointed in the way the complaint was handled we were just dismissed. I rang when we got home the man on the phone said was a bit confused he did say he was sorry and offered us a free drink if we return which we wont be.

We really enjoyed The Old Victoria bar. The owner was really friendly and accommodating. Loved the heritage keep of the premises. Wednesday night was open mic night, with a number of talented performers. However, be aware that the restaurant aspect (Food by Forman) does not honour the Entertainment Book despite advertising in the latest edition. Small portions and quite expensive for what it was. That said, we will be back as the drinks and atmosphere was excellent. Would recommend anyone to stop in for a drink or two.

We love dining here. We save it for special occasions. Two or three course meals. Always first class. Great intermate atmosphere. Five stars

We hired The Old Vic for my mother's funeral reception. The food and service were terrific. Friends also took a room overnight there and said they loved it. Easily recommended as a place to host a function or grab some quality food.

We discovered the Old Victoria when we needed dog friendly accommodation on a long trip. We loved it and have been coming back every trip since. We've been working our way through the various themed rooms. Thank you to the amazing Eileen and Jimmy who keep it going, and have decorated it with such love.

Utterly disappointed and disgusted that upon arrival I had to make my own bed and a one night fee of $180 means I have to share a bathroom with the entire complex. There was a confusion with my booking, even when I showed my booking confirmation. There’s no water available, only in the bathroom which feels unsanitary. There’s no parking, only in front of a pub which makes me feel unsafe.

The rooms here are huge and the bed was comfortable. There is a large shared bathroom but the night I stayed I was the only one in the property so this wasn't an issue for me. Jimmy was a welcoming host and we had a chat for quite a while before I checked in. ||The only mark against the Old Vic is the frequency of the trains that travel past nearby on a regular basis. This is all part and parcel of the positioning of this hotel from days gone by as it's close to the railway station. I have to say that after a long day driving I had a shower something to eat and fell asleep never to be bothered by trains until I woke the next morning. ||I enjoyed my stay here and discovering a part of the areas history.

There is vintage charm and comfort. But then there are so many bad things about this hotel/homestay. There is not water in kitchen. Lots of cockroaches 🪳 No towels per room Only street parking No aircon It was like staying at grandmas house and paying for that

The Dukes in the old Victoria was one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in a very long time. The food was beautifully presented and just delicious. The friendly waitresses made us welcome as well. I highly recommend and will be back .5 STARS ♥️👍

One of the reviews here references food being available ? Really ? Here's my review - please be realistic, there's a lot to be done to make this live up to the many 5 out of 5 reviews. I can't help but be suspicious. I know we're in tough times for Hospitality and Tourism and this is precisely why we chose to travel local... I thought the pictures 'said it all' but it wasn't at all like the pictures. No food, no water, no 'continental' breakfast, no staff, and used laundry piled outside the vacated rooms for over 36 hours... This is a cute establishment that needs a bit of an injection of enthusiasm into it. I was a little bit shocked at the photos which encouraged us to book - and the 'reality'. It is depicted to look like a vibrant place with eating facilities and breakfast was included - there was even pictures of food ! I thought we'd be eating there on the first night... Firstly we had no water to make tea (no sink) in the common area and there was nowhere to get water except the bathroom (which at this point was occupied !) I actually didn't realise it was a shared bathroom - should've read closer on all counts ! 'Continental Breakfast' was a loaf of white bread in the fridge with butter, and sachets of Special K. There was no eatery. The other thing we did not know about were the seemingly non stop coal trains that continued through the night - and we were very close to the railway line. I really do think that the picture presented was not the reality, I'm truly sorry to say this. The grimy bathroom mirror and the mould in the sink were also not a great look- and easily remedied. The room was sweet, and I think the other issues could be addressed easily. A water dispenser in the common area, a continental breakfast - well you could get pastries in..., and the bathroom mirror frame really needs a good scrub. This place has potential - and as I booked on the basis of reviews I can only assume we hit it at a bad time.

Now known as Duke's Restaurant and Bar. Very cosy atmosphere (especially in the room with the fire place). Service was absolutely exceptional from Lindsay. The wine list and cocktail menu isn't extensive, but the availabile selections are great, and the Mrs has a new favourite cocktail. We had the two course meal and both were fantastic (duck and sirloin). Will definitely be back 👍

Love the old Victorian and antique charm this hotel had! It was a pretty pleasant stay as expected and nothing to write home about. The only misleading information we had before we booked this place was it will be an ensuite bathroom as there was no mention of a shared bath. Definitely recommend this hotel as it is located in a quiet neighbourhood and shared bath is not a game changer!

Lovely lodgings that ooze charm and character. Our host Jimmy was friendly and very accommodating. We are travelling with a four legged family member and stayed in the Servant Quarters out back, where we enjoyed access to a leafy courtyard. Dined in-house at The Dukes in true French bistro style. A memorable experience and one we gladly recommend.

Loved the place and it’s aesthetics but chose the wrong weather to stay. No AC in the rooms, spent the entire night filling cooler with ice and cold water. Also, no attached washroom. It’s a common one. Not a very pleasant experience. I recommend this for staying in Winters (just for experience)

I usually love staying in properties that have character, but this stay was a little odd. I booked The Victoria Room which was at the front of the accommodation. A little more expensive, but it was a larger room and I was travelling with my small dogs. I received a text message a couple of hours before arrival to see when I would be arriving. All good. On arrival the place was locked up and I was about to call the number on the door, when it opened. I was greeted by a young man who showed me up to my room on very rickety stairs. I think the only thing holding them together is the carpet. On the right was the shared bathroom 😬 and on he left my room and again on the right the sitting room. The key to my room was in the door and handed to me then he young man disappeared back down stairs never to be seen again. I was apparently the only person staying that particular night. That was a bit creepy. Anyway the room was extremely hot but the fan didn’t work. There were no screens on the windows, but in the end I had to close them because of the frequent loud train noise and noise from the pub across the road. Quite an uncomfortable night for sleeping as a result. In addition, the bathroom had cockroaches running across the floor. I think a little maintenance is needed to make this place a bit more comfortable. Also there is no off street parking.

It was at the last minute spur of the moment that we decided to travel to East Maitland as well as taking in the Hunter Valley Airshow last weekend. We had booked this B&B and looked forward to our mini break away with my wife. When we arrived we were greeted to this fabulous old building, it was full of period charm and had a very welcoming colonial look and feel to the place. Upon approach there was a phone number to contact Jimmy who immediately was at he front door to offer us a very friendly and welcoming greeting. I noticed Jimmy's Manchester accent and he informed me that he had a lot of Irish family and being Irish ourselves we hit it off immediately. Jimmy brought us to our room which was the newly refurbished "Servants Quarters" at the back of the premises with a shared courtyard and it was stunning. Full of period furniture, high ceilings and we were delighted to have an ensuite. We didn't expect this as it said in the description that it was a shared bathroom but this was for the main building. We were delighted with the rooom, it was clean, beautifully presented and had a fridge with basic breakfast items (Bread, Jams, Honey, Butter, Milk, Cereals, range of teas and coffee. Of course vegimite for the Aussie folk also supplied). Jimmy gave us a rundown of all the local Bars , Restaurants and Cafes in the area. He explained that he did originally have a Bar and Restaurant on the premises but decided to lease these out. The restaurant is under new ownership and appeared to be very busy and booked out for the night. We met Jimmy and his partner later that night and we exchanged many stories and experiences as we shared a few cocktails until bedtime. Jimmy even offered for us to come back to his house which is a refurbised stable for a few "Killkenny's" but at that stage we all had our fill. The property itself was steeped in history and the surrounding gardens and old machinary and equipment if they could speak would tell some stories. The beehive was amazing and the lemon and lime trees were bursting with their bounty. This premises for some will be a bit rough around the edges but that's just how we liked it. What made our stay so enjoyable was the warm, open and friendly hospitality shown to us by Jimmy. A great place to stay if you want something different from the usual fare. Overall Top Marks, we will be back. Thanks again Jimmy for your hospitality and welcome. Eddie & Caroline

It felt like home. The room was bit hot without air conditioning but the fan was great and I don't like air conditioning anyway. Plenty of options for breakfast, including fresh fruit. And Eileen was woderful.

I felt like back to old era. It was interesting and good experience. When we stayed, it was hot and they didn’t have air conditioning and it was a bit uncomfortable. I was afraid of eating bread and milk because I wasn’t sure how long it’s been sitting in fridge.

Great venue being one of the oldest buildings in Maitland. A good selection of local craft beers. Although only a limited menu, the food was good, well presented and certainly not rushed. It is not cheap, but the venue has enthusiastic bar and wait staff coupled with the atmosphere creating a relaxed and enjoyable eating experience. As this is a historic building patrons should also be cautioned that the stone floored verandah and cobblestone courtyard are uneven with tripping hazards.

Firstly the good. Lovelyely host and beautiful old heritage building and restoration. Nicely furnished, comfy bed, quality linen. Now the bad. No air con which is ok as it is advertised as such. It was a hot spell when l stayed and a fan was provided for circulation but bordered on an industrial unit that could almost launch a small plane down the runway so noise was an issue. Host advised to open both sets of windows after sundown to get a cool cross breeze which sounded like a great idea. However, the rail line is about 150 metres in front. You can overlook the sound of trains during daytime, evening but these coaltrains run 24/7 every 10 -20 mins in both directions so maybe one passing every 5 -10 mins. A quick rumble past you might say except these things are loooong. In fact at 3am in the morning l checked the watch. 3 mins to pass end to end. So windows weren't an option not that closing them did much to the noise anyhow. So a very hot stuffy, noisy night. It's 2024. If you are running accomodation, there are certainly a minimum of services to be provided. Speaking of service, no running water in the "kitchen". Dishes go in a bucket from "your breakfast". " Breakfast is some white bread in the fridge with some marg, Vegemite or peanut butter, a limited range of single serve cereal and some milk. Quite honestly, best to admit defeat, load up and go fast as you can. Never to return. It would seem a lot of reviewers here are rating the accomodation in with the restaurant which l would rate highly 4/5 stars. How this accomodation can reach 4 something stars is amazing and says more about those that rated the joint so highly. In summary, DO NOT STAY HERE. So many other options in the area

Fantastic meals, entrees and deserts. I was driving so didn't try out the cocktail menu, but that looked delicious too. All the staff were super pleasant and helped create a superb atmosphere. Best dining I've had in Maitland.

Discovered this wonderful place when we needed a pet friendly place to stay on a road trip to Canberra. We will be back as soon as we can to try another interestingly themed room and when the amazing restaurant downstairs is open.
