About The Peninsula Hotel
Low-key rooms in an unassuming budget hotel offering a restaurant & a bar, plus event space. Set 5 km from South Geelong train station, this unpretentious budget hotel is 6 km both from Geelong Botanic Gardens, and from Eastern Beach on Port Phillip Bay. Low-key rooms sleep up to 3 guests, and offer TVs, safes and minifridges, plus tea and coffeemaking facilities. Family rooms feature interconnecting bedrooms. Amenities include a casual restaurant and a sports bar, as well as a kids' play area. There's also meeting and event space. Breakfast and parking are available.

Didn't even fill me and I'm 46kg. Wow!!!

Wonderful venue! Finished a 12hr shift and thought I would duck in for a beer. The beer on tap was deliciously cold, Jack and Paul’s service was professional, quick, and they knew exactly what I wanted. They wernt only keeping an eye on me, I noticed they were looking over my shoulder keeping an eye on everyone else in the venue making sure they are taken care of.
I might have been ears dropping, but then communicating as a team was like a foreign language to me.
The gentlemen even walked me to my car after the night was done

We were in the bistro. Our experience was great as usual.
Meals were prompt, hot & flavourful. Service was friendly & diligent.

We had lunch here on the 20th February 2024 parma $21 my wife and I had the same delicious meal but way to big , cut it in half would be still great meal but we will be back thank you very much great friendly service

We had dinner last night and they were all beautiful meals. Steaks, chicken snitzel and seafood platter plus lovely salads and veggies. The staff and service were excellent. Very friendly and helpful We used to be regulars and we heard Meals etc had improved and we are so pleased to find that’s true.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Mother’s Day! The Mother’s Day brunch was delicious. It was a great way to spend Mother’s Day with my mother in law. would definitely recommend this place. staff was friendly and service was excellent. definitely we will come back. cheers.

We attended at the Peninsula for lunch with a large group yesterday. We regularly attend venues with a group of 20 for celebrations. Food can definitely vary but we always get to eat…until yesterday. There was one hour between the first meal at our table arriving and the last, one meal didn’t arrive at all, and one was raw, burnt, and then inedible. Whilst 90% might be a good score on an exam, I don’t think anyone expects less than 100% of meals to actually be received. This was a very poor experience, particularly given the meal not received was for a mother on Mother’s Day. Our waiter was lovely and attempted to get all of the meals. We were told there was no manager working and so couldn’t discuss our difficulties with anyone else. Very disappointed 😞

Totally disappointed, we have been there on several occasions over the years and have had excellent experience with both functions and general dining experiences. On Monday we went to celebrate my daughters birthday for lunch in the dining area. Like other reviews have said one staff member to run the whole bar/ meals area. Meals took over an hour to come out and when they did they were nearly cold. Soup was watery and tasted like canned soup, no rolls to go with it, just offered thin sliced toast,which can out burnt on one side and not toasted on the other side. Inconsistent meals, some got 2 slices of toast others only got one. No cheesy garlic bread or rolls or desserts of any kind in offer, apparently their deliveries hadn't arrived. Floors hadn't been vacuumed, cover with crumbs and food scraps from the night before, water feature had black mold on the back of the water fall wall, ceiling peeling with paint, kids play area completely closed. I believe it's under new management, it's a total disgrace, service is bad and the food cold, definitely won't be going back again, avoid at all costs, total waste of our money and our day.

The rooms are old and gross.
I wouldn't stay there again.
Spiders everywhere even wrapped in supposedly clean towels.
Taped up shower head.
Party room was freezing cold.
Not enough staff on for a party booking. Long waits for drinks.
Meals were good.

Still waiting for my meal. Everyone at the table finished eating 20 minutes ago. The staff that are here are working really hard. Looks like they don't want to pay penalty rates on mother's day and therefore under staffed. Would not recommend. One of our friends pasta had to be returned twice. Inedible.

Stayed at the hotel for the weekend. Check in was easy even though we checked in late at night and had some difficulties, the kind man at the desk helped us out. We didn’t visit the bistro as it didn’t look very appealing online. Aside from the horrible beds and stuff, the room had everything we needed (tv, fridge, amenities etc.)
Lastly (I forgot her name) but the lovely cleaning lady went above and beyond for us which we truly appreciated and hope she gets rewarded for her hard work and amazing service. If it weren’t for her and her kind heart I would’ve left 1 star. So overall the service was awesome but the rooms aren’t very good.

One poor staff member in dining room was doing everything from taking meal orders to serving those orders to running the bar we thanked her for her hard work on Sunday 5 th Oct …. 12 of us for lunch I ordered the pork roast which came out totally flooded in gravy I’m not a big gravy person but the meal looked more Asian’ than a Sunday roast all the meat and veggies totally soaked in thin runny gravy tiny potatoes then layered with soggy vegetables and meat on top… gravy is a side extra but did get my apple sauce the kids chicken nuggets over cooked but out of the 3 desserts on offer two were very nice

One poor girl to serve meals, drinks and take care of a function that was on. Ordered Nachos, but they didn't have it, so changed to kids meal of pizza and chips, seriously the size was disgraceful....half a small pizza and handful of chips all of which were cold. Thankfully I ordered a salad so expected it to be cold. We have eaten here a number of times, this was the worst we have had.
The children's play area requires work, it has clearly never been cleaned since the flooding in there as it smells mouldy. Also a dead cockroach in the helicopter. Such a shame as itcould be a very successful hotel.

Negative 10! We are not going back here ever! Very poor management and poor service. Clearly saving on manpower in both kitchen and dining at the expense of good dining service. Makes sense lots of bad reviews that shared the same bad experience and ruined any special celebrations. Totally awful!

Myself and 3 friends stayed at the Peninsula hotel last Friday and Saturday night 23 and 24 of February. We have never stayed in such a disgusting place I don't think that it has been cleaned for ages. Went to put the electric blanket on the control was there but no blanket. Then the bed lamp would not work no globe water leaks in the bathroom and very dirty even the shower door would not close as for coffee, tea ,sugar and milk 3 of each and that was for the both days for 2 people. Ask for clean towels only to be told that they had none. One poor couple did not even get towels. When asked for more coffee, tea, sugar and milk they wanted $10. Another guest asked for a toaster that was also $10 . I did not receive a globe for the lamp as I was told that they are $10. And them stupid locks on the doors after complaining about the rooms Saturday morning and we were not nasty about it. Came back Saturday night and we could not get into our rooms. Had to get them to come over to let us in . We were not the only ones to complain the other guests did also. We are fairly sure that we were locked out
As far as we know the other guests that stay there for that weekend will never be back. Don't even think that there was a vacuum cleaner for the floors.

I was appalled to see the Asian cook handle meat with bare hands after which he put his hands into the salad and tossed the lettuce etc with his hands. No washing hands, using utensils or gloves. I will never eat there again, hopefully no-one gets food poisoning. Time for management to make sure all their staff know safe food handling and hygiene.

It has been two hours, and still, no food. What more can I say?
Stop taking people’s money. I realize that you only have one chef, which is absolutely ridiculous, but I can understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances happen. However, you should have backup plans for these issues. You've just turned a family of 45 of us who booked in for my son's 18th Birthday, the one and Only Night, into a complete Disaster!!!
Get your act together and start turning people away at the door. There is an idea.

I really recommend this place to visit again. The food was awesome and the staff are so nice , this place improved so much better and food was prepared fast🤟. Happy to visit this place again.
Room was quiet and well cleaned.❤️

I have no idea when the room was cleaned.|No additional pillows or blankets; no ability to use the safe; no light-globe in the dirty bedside lamp; no power-points to plug chargers in; the one chair had not been cleaned. Entrance was dark.....

Has been great for 50 years but now not so a lot of patrons have moved to other venues not doing so well in the front bar no tab its a shame to see not trading in front bar no more except for 3 days a week if ya want a beer when front bar closed got to go to pokie room which is intimidating to say the least

Had the BBQ beef brisket burger. Burger was very nice. Venue has an awesome view and amazing location. Sonja helped choose my drink and was delightful. Definitely coming back soon.

Great menu , chicken schnitzel was absolutely beautiful and very fresh. The cob loaf was a little different from a few weeks ago, but it’s so fresh and really easy to cut now. Family loved all meals thanks , meals are better than they have ever been

Going to this venue for a little fun on the pokies only to have someone steal my funds ( over $300)from the Machine. This venue found the culprit on their system called police who did not show up. The venue did not offer to reimburse me and were no real, assistant & basically told me bad luck.
There is no security and a lack of staff at this venue & do not recommend & will not return.
If you are looking for a bit of fun do not attend this venue.

First time we've been here in 20yrs.
Our meals were served quickly and both cooked just the right amount.
I had the salmon, my wife chose Chicken Kiev.
The girl who served us came and checked how the meals were and if we were happy.
Great service.
We'll be back regularly because it's local.

Dining with a friends group, the food was terrible and the service non existent. |We waited a long time to receive meals that were staggered and in the end one person received a refund as he felt he know longer wanted to wait.|My meal (a parma) was tasteless and dry and chips were cold, and I paid $27.41, I should have asked for a refund.|No excuse for limited staff , don't charge the price if you cannot provide what you advertise!!!|.

Big credit to Jack and Paul behind the bar, as a night shift worker myself I pop in for a pot on my way home in the early hours, Jack and Paul are always kind friendly and up for a story or 2. Also humbling watching them walk males/ females to there vehicles to make sure they are safe.
Good bar tenders make a pub, Jack and Paul are a perfect example of that, please pass on my feedback

Before I write the review I would like to thank the staff for their endless patience to be overworked and underpaid in this dog water establishment, clearly though management don't care about their staff at all and expect the staff to deal with the chaotic mess that management have left for them.
Mother's day my extended family about 15+ people went to enjoy a mother's day celebration and while the three staff were so understanding and helpful I couldn't help feeling sorry for them for being so under the pump, however they were clearly understaffed to deal with the chaos, after waiting for well over an hour for food to start coming including warm bread and butter which was frozen in the center and mussels that weren't even attempted to be cooked correctly, now I don't really blame the chefs for this as they were well overburdened by the amount of food orders coming in but this issue continued to persist including having one of the dishes returned to the kitchen more then once so I wished to speak to the manger but surprise surprise the management didnt think they were needed on such a busy occasion.
Overall, I won't be coming to this venue anytime soon nor will I be recomming this place to anyone and I hope the staff that worked that day have enough self respect to tell management they shouldn't be subjected to such treatment
0.1/10 because I can't get behind greedy Aussie business owners taking advantage of the every man and I wish all the best to the staff that worked there on that chaotic day
