Would not rave about the service or the food. My husband ordered a porterhouse and received a small, tough, overcooked rump, very bland and at restaurant prices it was very disappointing, he didn't complain because the staff were not friendly. Needless to say, we won't be back.

We went specifically for the Sunday roast and were not disappointed. Well cooked veg, plenty of tender lamb with mint sauce.
$25 each, would have had apple pie and custard if it had been on the menu!

We waited for one hour for two average meals. Staff were rude and just walked away when I asked how long our meals would be.

Went to the Royal Hotel for a place to hang out and have a beer while a friend got off from work. We had a few drinks and stayed for the pub meal. Awesome choice! The chicken parmesan was amazing and the side of chips hit the spot. Good sized meal and the staff were friendly all night. Will pop back in again on our way through next time too.

The Royal today was great. Food good, drinks easy to get and great company. A couple of tech glitches but the staff handled them very well. There was also a bus group in but that caused no problems, no log jams just dealt with quickly and quietly. Best of all the atmosphere was very quiet unlike other occasions when I have been there.

The Royal is great to have a drink at, with outstanding employees and management, shout-out to Max for his great service. The drink choices are there, however they do not offer double -or even single- shots, and their selection is of decent size.
However, it is to note that Benalla has had issues with people due to the spirits(specifically shots), so they had to remove them, and as such, I will not hold it against the place.
At the Royal, you will meet some nice and rowdy people!

The food was tasty but the tables were sticky as were the menus and the lady that we saw wiping the tables was just using the same dry/dirty chux with no spray to wipe everything over.
Not much atmosphere and when I asked if it was possible to get a kid's carbonara I was told no I would have to purchase a small. This ended up only being $1 or so less than the full serve but only came out the same size as a kid's portion!

Speed in for meal on the way through. Burger was massive so we shared. Quick tasty better than take away 4 sure

Service is average, and so is the food.
The $20 burger I ordered took over 30 minutes to come out (you have to keep an eye out on the LED display for your order number in order to collect your food, something which the cashier selectively tells customers); patronage was high at the time, but not full.

Serves cold beer... some staff were friendly. Have to pay for food and drink individually?!
Would not recommend the steak. Chicken Parmigiana was okay

Pub is good customer's are locals so decent meals are decent an good size also affordable only downside is the pokie venue brings a lot of rough people into the bar

It was pretty good but the bolongase had some very big chunks of meat. They gave out free frogs in a pong which was good except they had orange jelly for the most part🤢. The staff were nice and the experience was overall pretty good.

In Benalla for a few days, went to the Royal hotel, ordered scotch fillet steak couldn't eat it as was very tough & when barstaff took our plates * asked if we enjoyed it, we said it was pretty average & the toughest scotch fillet we've, he took our plates to the kitchen, scraped plates into the bin & gave absolutely noooo feedback to kitchen staff, would never recommend it, sorry 😥 Just for the record we are very easy to please & normally go to the kitchen to thank the staff for a beautiful meal

Great pub, gets busy. So book or go early.. veal snitty was really good. Good staff and efficient.

Great pub for an easy feed and beer. The Chicken Parmigiana was great, and the atmosphere was good. Friendly staff and easy service. Also an awesome play area for the kids to enjoy.

Great food, great service, some music would be good. New to area but we pretty much ate and left as that was all there was... lovely big pub and great location.

Great food and friendly staff!
We stopped by on our way from Melbourne and had a delicious meal, I had the rump steak which was extremely succulent and my wife had the grilled hoki fillets which broke apart so delicately. The staff were really friendly and the food came out in no time. Highly recommended it if you are a local or passing by!

Fantastic meal and service. Very reasonable priced meals and very cheap wine list. Great service. Fast meals with no delays. Highly recommend!!

Child friendly hotel. Very noisy as there were kids parties. Took an hour to get our food as was so busy.

Chef was lovely, gave our daughter a colouring pack. The bar staff and kitchen staff required a better attitude and customer service. The steak was over cooked and was like eating rubber.

Been here 3 times now. Keep giving it a go because the food is pretty good. The staff are just so rude and unhappy. They go out of their way to make life difficult. The Northo is so much friendlier. Definitely will never be coming back to the Royal.

Bar staff were rude, just looked at you when standing at the bar wanting to order drinks. The chef came out and was lovely. Maybe the bar staff need some lessons off the chef on customer service. The risotto was lovely but will not be going back!

Awesome kids indoor playground, great choice of kids meals at a reasonable price, the kids were also given an activity pack and dessert 👌 The rest of the menu was very good and the food was nice. All the staff were nice and friendly, it was a quiet lunch service, we didn't have to wait too long so that was great. I would definitely return if we go through town again.
No website or menu to view online was frustrating though...

Asked for a modified meal (a bowl of mash potato) due to medical reasons with difficulty swallowing that was explained.
And the staff at the bar asked me to wait while they checked with the Kitchen, the bar staff member came back with in seconds saying they flat out said NO even though mash was on parts of the menu. What a disappointment for locals to be declined for such a simple request unfortunately we will never go back again.

A great pub with great food at a faur price.
Pleasent service and a friendly smile for weary travellers.
Will I go back? Yep. Certainly.
Parking. We arrived after dark and not familiar with the pub, so parked on street and entered via the front door which had a small step so wheelchair users might find tricky. But, as I said, this was the front entry...
Atmosphere was nice and pleasent, a couple of fires for additional warmth in the lounge.
Not bad at all for a place that started off in 1861..
