Wow. Fantastic food, amazing selection of beers and to top it off, really lovely genuine friendly service. Wifey and I loved our visit to this place for lunch and a cheeky beer.

We were lured in by the food menu and the promise of some craft beer. The beer lived up to expectations, the food did not. The food was adequate, but nothing better than I could make myself at home and the presentation was very old school but not in a good way. If I was looking for a meal again, it wouldn’t be in here. The pub has a great ambience however and the staff were great so well worth stopping in for a couple of drinks.

Waited as bar and was ignored by staff for ten minutes. When I asked how long would it take to be served the bar tender replied “I have other jobs to do”.
Rude.
Unprofessional.
Degrading to what I thought was a wonderful establishment.
100% will never return. There are plenty of great bars around Newcastle and this is not one of them.

Very friendly staff, great prices and a unique take on chicken schnitzel. Good variety of sides for the meals also. Would definitely recommend!

This place has become one of my absolute favourite establishments in Newcastle. It's the quitsential local pub vibe. Friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, wholesome delicious food. Cannot recommend this place enough. Sets the highest of standards for Newcastle pubs.

The family just enjoyed a delicious chicken sandwich, pork sandwich and chicken schnitzel for lunch, all served with very tasty seasoned hot chips. Cool maritime themed decor and comfy booths added to the very enjoyable experience. Relaxed, super friendly service was great too, as was the crispy cold tap lager. Very highly recommended. One of many great Newcastle venues. 👍👍👍👍

Recently dined on taco Tuesday after being a regular at another Mexican venue. The food, value for money and service was far superior! Will be a regular here moving forward

Popped in a meal a couple months back. Nice little fitout. Asked for a stout and was given a can, waitress thoughtfully poured into glass and after I paid I noticed on the can it was less than 1% I would have not ordered had I known. Food was prompt and tasty

Ordered the pie and a chicken parmigiana. A bit on the pricey side and portion sizes were smaller than expected for a $26 meal. The food arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. Friendly and welcoming staff, who went above and beyond.

Ordered takeaway from here and the food was great! Even though the order was delayed because of a lack of Uber eats drivers in the area, the staff called us to apologise and left a hand written note and a little gift. Love the thoughtfulness and service - all on top of a great feed.

Nice surprise. Food was delicious. Small menu but well done. Met some friends and shared chicken wings and fish tacos. It was really yummy food! The Irish waiter was doing a great job too

Nice location, lots of potential but unfortunately it's filthy. Wipe the tables down, clean the windows and make your customers comfortable and welcome.

My wife and I went here twice on the same day. The first time we stumbled on it, and we were very happy to have done so. Lunchtime was busy and it was easy to see why. A very eclectic mix of culinary delights along with a warm, relaxing and friendly vibe.
We went back at night and it was busy for the evening band. The mood was still friendly and although it was packed the service was quick and everyone working there looked like they were having fun. The crowd was alternative and a good span of ages represented. It was also kid friendly. Very inclusive.
The range of beers on tap was exceptional. I enjoyed a couple of glasses of The Grifter “Serpents Kiss” watermelon pilsner, but it wasn’t just fancy beers, if this sounds too much for you there was a drink on tap, fridge or shelf for everyone.
Price wise was exceptional for a city pub and I was pleasantly surprised by the great value had. This included the food. The chips were perfectly seasoned, the spices on the chicken ideal.l and the speed of service outstanding. I would have happily tried more dishes.
If you want a fun place to go with good music, and even better people, you should not pass by.
There is also a sister venue, the Falcon, just round from it which has more of a speakeasy feel to it, and is also worth a visit.

My partner and I come here at least once a week for dine in or take away, the food is always spot on and so delicious! The meals are really good priced considering how big the proportions are. Great selection of cocktails and the bar staff are always friendly and attentive. I couldn’t recommend this place enough. :)

lunch special - Burrito and a beer !
Salsa is packed full of flavour and the perfect accompaniment to my delicious pulled pork Buritto.
(This is my 3rd time. I keep coming back because it taste so good! )

Great vibe and sweet service.
Our espresso, martinis we're strong and tasty.
The mushies on toast we're unreal though the bread could have been toasted more. It was a simple and almost lacking part of the dish.

Great pub with good food and a fine selection of craft beers. I liked the low light and candles. The music selection chimed so well with me I thought they'd hacked my phone. The service was great and the young woman on Saturday night seemed genuinely thrilled to hear about my bushwalking. So nice...🙂

Great pub in an historic building in Newcastle. The building is a repurposed bank and original fixtures have been retained-think beautiful old wood, leather benches and stained glass. The vibe is very relaxed, staff friendly and food is great. The Ship Inn is one of the oldest in town but the crowd was young and cool! There was live music too -perfect for lunch or dinner.

Food was good. But a rude waitress.
We had never been here before and were on a road trip stopping off for lunch. A few of us had to come in and immediately use the amenities and two started ordering. They were still ordering their own stuff when we came out to add to the order. All of a few minutes. The waitress came over after we were all seated and told us next time don't start ordering when people are in the bathroom wait to do it all at once. in a very rude tone. She didn't even serve us either and was no where near when we were ordering our food. They were still putting in the orders of the people who started ordering before we came out and added on.
The whole vibe was very unpleasant from then on. Luckily all the other staff were absolutely lovely. And the food was really well made.

First timer eater of the new menu long time lover of the ship!! I’m no stranger to sinking my anchor in and sinking a few schooners along side it at the ship in! So I know I could count on this place for a great time buttt for a great feed on my weekday lunch break has blow my expectations out of the water! I indulged in the lunch roll special and a $5 xpa to match and I honestly couldn’t have enjoyed my experience more!

Coming from the UK I missed proper good pub grub until I found this place.
Portions are fantastic, food is delicious, bar man was really friendly and got me on the cold brews as I don't drink. Just what I needed on my day off. Thanks guy's be back soon.
