We have visited The Shorty a number of times and are always satisfied, however our latest visit is noteworthy.It was the last night to use a Dine Voucher. Place was packed. Kitchen and staff were run off their feet. We stayed. Food came out sooner than what we were told to wait. Everything was cooked perfectly and an abundance of veg while other places have been scrimping and substituting cheaper veg. Our meals were perfect.....again. Through the chaos of the visit we noted that all the staff remained calm and friendly. They were run off their feet. On the way out I called over one of the two chefs who stopped what he was doing and came out and with a smile. I praised him and all the team and thanked him for a great and organised job mainaintained by all of them. Well done Shorty!

Way too overpriced now!
Tuesday used to be a tradition for years for 2for1 snitties now their $5 more and litterally cut in half!
Bring back 2for1 or at least do the bigger schnitzels for the higher price! Instead of $5 more than what the bigger ones were and only getting the smaller ones.

This was a surprise for our family get together. If you can overlook the atrocious parking area, you'll find a clean, neat and tidy Hotel offering good cold beverages and a great menu selection. Fast, hot, fresh meals (even on a busy night) aren't hit and miss. Great menu selection catering for all and priced well for the family outing. Nice work Shortland.

This waitress (I think her name was charlotte) provided great service. Beautiful manners and she made sure everyone taken care of.great food and great time. Shannon loved it for our anniversary so thank u for a putting me in the goodbooks

The Shorty is a wonderful place to grab a proper pub feed. Went out for dinner and grabbed 2 massive schnittys, definitely weren't kidding about them being massive.
10/10 definitely recommend.

The room and amenities are really good for what they are, FYI you will need to pay a 100 bond so bring cash, you will get it back quicker

The hotel staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food was quite enjoyable and served surprisingly fast without any compromise to quality. Most people in attendance appeared to be locals as you'd find with most pubs. There were drink specials on a Friday night, although I did not pay attention to what they were. I would definitely go back.

Staff very friendly and polite.
Everyone ordered together but unfortunately meals were not delivered to table together, some of our group had finished while others still waiting. Waitress was very apologetic which was appreciated but kitchen staff need to get act together. Drinks were cold and refreshing.
Willing to give it another try.

Order a chicken Cesar salad. Time before there was heaps of salad and the chicken all nice and broken up. This time there was half the salad chicken just in slabs and 2 bits of anchovies on the chicken. Chicken just taste fish. No one wants bait on their chicken. Gross

Not many Pubs you can sit at the Bar anymore! Good TAB area, food is okay.

My 2 stars are just for the room. Kitchen, bathroom are very old .. insectes in the room, had to let the light on for sleeping. Well it's australia but a little effort to do some renovation could be good, even if it's cheap, better to put 10 dolls more for having something better.
A big gap between the pub, where it's very clean and new, and the hotel part. The pub service, food, Atmosphere were very good.

Monday nights at the Shorty have become a staple to my week, Mitch and Bailey behind the bar are super friendly and very personable, tap selection is very good and the new menu is absolutely fantastic. Could not recommend a Monday night here anymore.

I've given three stars to overnight accomodation facilities that are generally rated at 2-star level. Honestly, it wasn't great, but it was cheap...and for it's price it was actually about as good as I was expecting. The staff were friendly, it was clean, Iwe weren't doing much more than using the facilities as a place to crash for the night while we explored around Newcastle. I'd probably go someone a bit more expensive next time I visited Newcastle, but if I needed a cheap place for a couple of days, it certainly does the job.

It was terrible!
They kept my bond 3 weeks and I have been ringing the hotel for my bond many times and they told me to contact my bank for my bond.
Thats not my duty!

I had $1,200 dollars stolen from me by a person who is a permanent resident... it's not the shorty pubs fault persay, however it does make you wonder why they are willing to allow scumbags to rent their rooms when there are good people living in their cars or worse, who would never do such a putrid act.

If you're after a no fuss place to rest your head then you can't find a better place to stay in Newcastle.
The check in is a breeze as Sam and the rest of the staff are super nice and easy to work with.
The rooms (though basic) are a 10/10 for cleanliness, comfort and have everything you need. There's free parking on site (huge carpark). The wifi is free (no password required) there's air-conditioning, bar fridge kettle and TV in your room (microwave and toaster are available in the communal kitchen)
I've been staying in one of the single shared bathroom for nearly 3 weeks and in all that time I've only ever seen another person in the bathroom three times since being here.
The bed is really comfortable and even the single bed has 2 fluffy pillows.
I can't recommend this place highly enough
The self locking doors. REMEMBER to always have the key on your person so you're not locked out topless at 130am (so my fault not theirs)

Honestly really disappointed with how bad the food has gotten compared to how it used to be. The prices are crazy now, bring back $15 burger night on wednesday. I had a pork belly burger last night and the size of the pork was pathetic and it’s been like this since changing hands in the kitchen. Not happy. - local used to be shorty lover :(

Fast and efficient service from the time you walk in, and the food areas are well organised and plenty of room to be apart from everyone. Very comfortable area.
The food service was fast and the food waiters were friendly and attentive.
The food was fantastic and amazing. Servings were very generous and fresh.
Shortland Hotel has to be amongst my top3 hotel establishments I will eat and dine in.
Thankyou to everyone that makes this hotel amazing. 10/10

Dropped In for lunch today and was so disappointed! Decided to go as last time while in the middle of renovations, our lunch was amazing. Pub looks fantastic and service from what looked like the bar manager was great. Meals where terrible. We had the sticky smoked wings for a starter. Tough tasteless whole wings, yuk. I had the schnitzel with chips and upgraded to a salad instead of a garnish, schnitzel small, tough with the breading sliding off. The salad! Omg. I am sad to say is the worst side salad I have ever been served. Limp lettuce leaf, 2 slices of green tomato, a bit of chunky onion with 2 round slices of burger pickles? I definitely will not return

A fun little bar with great food. It was really small and if it’s busy it will take some time to get some service but apart from that it had great tasting dishes with reasonable prices. Really enjoyed.
